I have Elizabeth Gore, married to Arthur A. Pinner in 1875, Florida. I have no other info on her but I do know her husbands family was from South Carolina, back to early 1700s.

She's one of my remaining brick walls and a tough one at that.

I'm not the original poster but I was going to ask you a question too!

I saw your original posts that had all kinds of info on Gores that were in FL---do you happen to have anything on an Elizabeth Gore who married Arthur A. Pinner (I have the date as 15 July 1875)? The Pinners were from SC (that I know of) and settled in Alachua/Putnam/Polk counties.

From what I've seen, you seem to have more info on Gores in the area that my Pinners were from than anyone else....?

Thanks for anything you might know!

Steve Vaught

There is a Doug Goar who lives there now and descends from John Goar a brother of my gr gr grandfather David Goar b. 1832 in Sanday, Scotland. They immigrated about 1851. My gr gr grandfather moved to west about 1890 with his son David my gr grandfather. If you check Faye Embree Family Tree you should have most of the ancestors back to James Goar b. about 1798 if I recall.

This sounds familiar to what I'm finding about my family. My father was Harry Alton Gore, sone of Mack Carlton Gore and Ona Jwel Rigby Gore. In the 1930 census of Coctaw, OK it show's Mack Carlton Gore's parents to be William and Fanny Gore. I'm not finding much before that though, I'm new to this. I'm from TX originally, looks the family was in OK and TX.

Was searching through Connecticut colonial records on a different family line and stumbled across the following:

A Complete History of Connecticut, Civil and Ecclesiastical by Benjamin Trumbull

"In October 1687 a grant of lands, commonly called the Mashamoquet purchase, was made by the general assembly, to (among others) JOHN GORE. Most were from Roxbury, Massachusetts. The name was later changed from Mashamoquet to Pomfret."

Does anyone know who this John Gore was?

Janet

Gayle, I think we've been in touch before. I have William W. Gore listed as 14 in the 1850's census. He was the son of Davis and Catherine Gore. His siblings were Josephine, Clement (my grgr grandfather), Elizabeth, Napoleon, Francis and Missouri. I don't have any info on his marriages though.

Henry Gore and wife Margaret / Marguerette

The father of my Isaac Gore m. Ingabor Bird/Byrd is Henry Gore of Shennandoah VA. I am looking for anyone who has done research on his wife Margaret. I am trying to rule out that Margaret was part of the Swedish group that came from Berks Co PA in the early 1700's, possibly a Bird, Jones (Jonasson), or Ruddell - or part of that group. I have seen her name written as Marguerette as well as Margaret, which was a popular name coming down the Jones/Bird line that migrated to Shenandoah Valley VA. The Rudells were related through Corneilius (Neil) Cook who married Christina Jonason, sister of Mounce Jones, plus Mounce Bird married their daughter Clara Cook. Anyone have any research on this?
I find telephoning the easiest method because I actually get to talk to the Registrar's who can offer help and advice.

When you are searching on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com the results give you the Registration District where the event was recorded, in this case West Ham:

Marriages Sep 1898 Gore William Wheeler W. Ham 4a 376

Click on the W.Ham and another Window opens. Click on 'here' in 'information about it can be found here'. The next Window will tell you where the Registars are kept, in this case NEWHAM.

The Register Office,
207 Plashet Grove,
East Ham,
London, E6 1BT.

Tel: 020 8430 3616 or 3617.
