I'm seeking any information about Gorges immigrants who settled in the town of Caton, Stueben County, N.Y. In abt. 1871 Mathias and Barbara Gorges immigrated from Hermeskeil, Germany to Scranton, Pa. where they resided for two years before moving to the above location. They raised five children on a 150 acre farm there : John, b.1858; Anton, b.1855; Marie b.?; Helena, b. 1862; and Nicholas,b.1863. All of the above children were born in Hermeskeil. I'm particularly interested in Anton who stayed at home and worked the farm with his parents and after they died. Anton and Magdalena Bentz, his wife, raised seven children: Barbara Teresa, b.1886 d.?; Amelia Mary, b.1887 d.1968; Anton John,b.1889 d.1963; Maria Katharina, b.1891 d.?; Leo Joseph (my grandfather), b.1893 d.1956, Twins Mathias and Mathilda, b. 1897 d. 1969 and 1927 resp. All but three of these offspring left the area. The three remaining in the area were : Maria Katharina married and lived in Elmira, Leo worked a farm in Lindley, and Mathilda lived in Corning, I believe. Anton John made his career in the Army. Magdalena, mother of the above, was born in Dackenheim, Germany. Following the death of Anton John, her husband, in abt. 1916 she relocated to Williamsport, Pa. where she worked in the rectory of the St. Boniface Church. Her nephew, Rev. Bernard T. Borr was rector at this church.
Any info, no matter how seemingly insignifacant, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
