Well howdy, cuz! On the contrary, I'm glad you did reply even after all this time! I'd always hoped somewhere in the massive O'Connor clan there was someone else who was interested in genealogy. I've never been able to get anywhere at all on the Gormans--all I know is Anna, and not much at that. Have you uncovered anything else about her?

Feel free to write me direct at kat.handley@gmail.com! I'd be happy to share what I have--your message made me open up my files again, and I have a lot of random information on the O'Connors scattered around.

Noel, I saw your message re: the Bates family of Killucan dated 9 June 2001. Unfortunately I can't find it again and can't reach you via the E address given.

I have information on Bates of Killucan. Mary Kinnally, daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Lynch Kinnally married James Bates on 3 Feb 1855. In the 1911 Census their sons Clement and James Bates are in Derrymore and Philip is in Townparks, Galway. I think I've just found Lawrence (indexed as Betts) in Kings Co, NY in 1900.

Mary Carlson
Gorman: Joseph, Catherine, Thomas died before 1918 in Fall River area

There are three people buried with Mary Hughes Willliamson and her husband Sam Williamson. Their children lived in either Fall River or Tiverton, RI. In 1918 some bodies from St. Mary's Cemetery in Fall River were moved to St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River. In with my Williamson-Hughes family are Joseph, Catherine, and Thomas Gormand (I think probably Gorman)I am wondering if they are related to Hughes or to Williamsons. They would have died before 1918.

John Charles Gorman & Maggie Gafney-NY

recently came into possession of a letter from my great-aunt who started writing down some family history. Referenced The Old One, my great great great grandfather who remained in Ireland (possibly County Clare). My great great grandfather, John Charles Gorman came to NY and married Maggie Gaffney. They ran a boarding house near the docks for Irishmen coming off the boat. Their children were John, Charles, Sara and Stella. Son John (also Charles middle name) married Mary Marley, who was an employee at the boarding house. They moved to Baltimore MD where Charles was a higher-up at the Baltimore/Ohio railroad. They had son John Clement Gorman (my grandfather), possibly a daughter Kate who died young, and Margaret. John Clement Gorman married Margaret Lang. Anyone have any more details on any members of this family?!! Please respond to tabathawian@hotmail.com
Yesterday I visited St. Clare cemetery on Dwyer Hill Road near Ottawa, Ontario, in search of my McGinley ancestors. There is a stone for Ann McGinley, beloved wife of John Gorman, She died March 14 1861, aged 36. I suspect they came from either County Tyrone or Fermanagh in Ireland,as these are the origins of my grandfather and his first wife, who was a Gorman.

I noted your message referring to a Mike Wrona. Are you aware of anyone in your family by the name of Frances Wrona who lived in Chicago in the 1930's-40's? With a last name that isn't Jones or Smith, I thought it would be relatively easy to find Frances, but I'm finding that not to be the case. Thanks. Brenda

Sean, we may be closely related. I have the following info:
Thomas G, born 1830, Ireland
married "Mary" in 1864, they had 7 kids:
John,b. 1866/IL, met an English woman while station there during WWII, ended up marrying and living there.
Malaka, b. 1868/IL
married Margaret in 1891, he died between 1910/20.
Kate, b. 1870/IL
Jane, b. 1872/IL
Martin, b. Dec 1875/IL
James, b. Oct 1876/IL
Margaret, b. May 1882/IL

Malaka above is who I'm tracing from: He and Margaret had 6 kids.
John, b. 1893/IL
Helen, b. 1895/IL She married Charlie Malmquist around 1930.
Genevive b. 1897, she married Joseph "Bud" John Gellar arounmd 1929 (this is who I trace to), Bud was a Chicago Golden Gloves Champion.
James b. 1899/IL (this would be your trace)
Malachy Jr. b. 1901/IL
Marguerite b. 1903. She married Thomas O'Brien around 1922

What I'm trying to find out is info on Marguerite. We suspect that Marguerite had a baby out of wedlock "pre-Thomas O'Brien" and her sister Genevive passed the baby off as her own. I have a ton of pics Genevive and baby Madeline, but would be happy to trade/scan some for you and vice versa. Let me know if you think your GGrndFthr could be one of the above I mentioned.

Laina and Patricia O'Donoghue. Thanks for responding. It's so funny, but it was exactly a year ago last time I was on vacation that I posted the email. I'm vacationing at the same spot right now.

Hi Linnie
Thanks for your message sorry I did not get back to you sooner, I have been away for a few days.
My John Joseph Gorman (GGrandfather) was born in Australia as far as I can tell. My problem is I sent away for the Death Certificate but it turned out to be the wrong John Joseph. He married Emily Jane Martin about 1888, I haven't got the papers handy at the minute but I am now waiting on receiving the marriage certificate and I am hoping that will give me some information. You may have noticed in your search that it seems that nearly every Gorman family has a John, Laurel, Mary and Walter.
Thanks again for your reply
Good luck with your family search
Mary

Sorry haven't any info but after reading this notice I had to make comment.
Why is it that all (so it appears) John Joseph Gorman's are hard to track down. I am researching my relatives in Australia and my GGGrandfather is John Joseph Gorman father of Sydney Fitzgerald Gorman who was a postman in the Annandale Liechhardt area for about 45 years. I thought I had John Joseph's details but turns out it is the wrong one. I do know he married Emily Jane Martin in 1881 but I can not find when and where he was born or where he died (I think West Wyalong area)but not absolutely sure. Would a ppreciated any help.
Thanks

Hello - I am also a direct descendant of James and Ellen, who both eventually settled in Albany, Western Australia. My direct bloodline is via their son James, who moved to Mt Barker and had a big family. Many Gormans live throughout this southern region of WA. (perhaps you are one of them?) Dont know alot about the irish connection, but know that James served for the 13th regiment of foot in Afghanistan, etc prior to moving to WA as a pensioned guard with his family. He also worked as a jail keeper at Albany Prison, and I have found his grave in Albany in the pioneer cemetery (unmarked plot) I certainly have heaps of extended family with the same name. regards Shane

Looking for info regarding John C (possibly Clement or Charles) Gorman who came to the US w/his brother from County Clare late 1800's. They settled in NY-rumor has it that John and his brother had a disagreement and John moved south to either VA or MD. My grandfather, John Clement Gorman, was born around 1918 to John C. Gorman.

I have found this family on the US census in Carbondale, PA. Catherine Delaney must have died by 1870. after that, her sister Annie Delaney, who never married, lived with the family and cared for the children. John Gorman must have died before 1880. Catherine and John Coogan's sons married and had children in Carbondale. One of their daughters, Louisa, married Patrick Coogan and there are many descendants in Carbondale and in nearby Binghamton, NY.

Philip Gorman b. Ireland c 1815

I am the ggg daughter of Philip and Mary Gorman, both born in Ireland--and looking for any information you may have on either of them. They immigrated from Ireland to Three Rivers, Canada around 1822. I don't know if they met in Canada, or met and married in Ireland before immigrating.

Assuming Philip had his child between age 18 and age 40, he would have been born c. 1804-1826.

Son, Joseph Patrick Gorman
b. 1844 Canada
d. 1910 USA
Married Mary Elizabeth Wisecarver

Children of Joseph Patrick Gorman & Mary Elizabeth Wisecarver (b. 3 Oct 1770 Greene, PA (which was also part of Virigina starting in 1775; don't know if this is Greene Township or Greene County PA) d. 25 Apr 1850 Pennsylvania

1. Joseph Worth Gorman (twin Wade died at birth)
b. 20 Oct 1880 Utah or Illinois
d. 15 May 1947 Los Angeles
Married: Sarah N. Paxton ("Sadie") born Arapaho Cty, Neb.
Lived in Ft. Lupton, Colorado before met wife.
Moved to San Diego c. 1913; worked as mechanic for
Standard Oil of California.

2. Frank Norman Gorman aka Francis Norman
b. May 1886 or 1887 - Colorado
wife: Muriel
CHILDREN (I think all born in California):
Gaynor, b. 1921 (wife: Juanita, son: Jimmy)
Virginia, b. c. 1922 (married: Gould)
Bernice, b. 1923
Betty, b. 1926

Only child of Joseph Worth Gorman and Sarah N. Paxton

1. Joseph Worth Gorman, Jr. (USN civil engineer)
b. 19 August 1917 San Diego CA
d. 6 April 2006 Monterey CA

Joseph Worth Gorman, Jr. married Shirley Katherine McMillan (b. 9 Jan 1922 San Francisco -- d. 11 Jan 2008 Monterey, CA) on July 14, 1940 and had one child--me, in 1950.

Any hints regarding Philip and Mary Gorman would be most appreciated.

Trisha Gorman
Oakland, CA
