My ex-husband's great grandmother was Francis Gorney b. 1864 in Germany. She and her husband Joseph had the following children: Mary, Ralie(?), Samuel, Hannah, Victoria (his grandmother), Rosie, John, Laura and Stella. They lived in Chicago and I know little about them other than they spoke Polish. Anyone with information please contact me.

Gorny - IL?

I am researching a John Gorny who married a Frances Szmarcka in Chicago, married 07/09/1881. They had several children - Priscilla, John Jr., Casimir, Pelagia/Bessie, Valentina and then a son Leon who was from a previous marriage of one or the other.

Family history conflicts, by some accounts he was a Viennese gentleman and by another account they this family lived in farm or country type land on the fringes of Chicago. These Gorny's married Poles...

I am curious if anyone has any connections to the Gorny's in Chicago? A Polish anniversary card from another family that married into this one listed the surname as 'Gorna'.

My gr grandmother was Frances Gorney (may have been spelled Gurna, Gurney). In some belongings I have some info that Claire J. Gorney Sedlock was a cousin. I find Claire and her sister Anne, living with their mother, Mary Gorney, in the 1930 census in Chicago, IL. Does this ring a bell for anyone?? Thanks! Shirley Franklin

My husband was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1948. His father's name was Ferdinand Constantine Stedman and his mother's name was Eleanor Gorney. (May have been spelled Gorny) Later, after the death of his mother and the close of Studebaker, his father( who remarried) moved to the Detroit area with his brothers Dennis and Brian. Know that his mother had a sister named Hilda, who lived in the Detroit area. Believe it may have been Pleasant Ridge. enchantedranch@earthlink.net
SUSAN STEDMAN

I am an adoptee, born in Detroit, MI, Providence Hospital (hospital no longer exists) haven't been able to trace records. Birth date is 3-2-1944.

Know my birth mother's name was Gorney, have no other details on birth father, or other blood relatives. My birth name was Mary Louise Gorney, adopted at age 4 by Anthony & Nellie Domanski, Nellie still lives in Warren, MI. Stayed at Sarah Fisher Home for awhile. After adoption, my name was changed to Sharon Marie Domanski. Was raised Catholic and suspect Catholic Charities was involved in adoption. Rothrock is my married name. Went to St. Thomas grade school and high school.

Can anybody help with filling in the puzzle?

Sharon

My great-grandmother's maiden name was Weronika Gorney. She and her husband (Jan Pawlowski) came from Prussia in the early 1900's with her parents and many of her siblings and their families. They originally settled in Elmira (a town near Gaylord, MI). I am trying to trace down their naturalization forms. Are you related to these people?
