Henry Gortner was my great grandfather and married Priscilla Frampton in 1854 (my middle name is Frampton). I have very little information at the moment. Henry's son, Will, was my grandfather and Roscoe Maynard Gortner was my father (ne passed away in 1980. I believe my brother Tim may know more about the couple. I am trying to find out more myself. Supposedly this Gortner name was at one time "Courtner" and when the family lived in Maryland it was changed to Gortner and my uncle Jesse even suggested that the name may have been "Courtney" before becoming "Courtner"

If you send for Anthony Cortner 's Reolutionary Pension application papers you will find that he led an interesting life especialy where he says that he dispatched an Indian. Catherine his wife also filed for a widow's pension in 1840. That is where you will find her correct name.
Please let me know a little more about your researching this family.

Phoebe was my grgr grandsmother. Both she and James died soon after moving to Kanawha ,now Roane County. I am descended through their son, John Harvey. He is buried in the Hively Cemetry. I have traced Phoebe's father back by using his Revolutiionary pension application papers. Please, the name is Cortner and he was born in Lancaster Pa in 1740 and lived to be 93. I have found that there were two sons besides Phoebe-David and Lewis.
Now what do you know about the James Daugherty family besides all of the children? I'm looking for proof that James was the son of George Daugherty, the Revolutionary War soldier who was living in Greenbrier county when he died in 1833.
do you live in Roane county?I

Check his pension records. Phoebe had two brothers. David and Lewis. If you want to know anything more contact me.

Pheobe's parenrs were Anthony Gortner & Catherine Coonstump. But I don't know Pheobe's siblings. Love to find out, but haven't found them yet. Christopher I bet is related or even a brother, wish I knew. My family had spelled Pheobe's last name as Coultner, but I found it was spelled Gortner.

Hi Larry: There seems to be great mystery concerning Gottleib and John's parents. It was always said that Gottleib learned to walk on water implying probably the trip across the Atlantic. If he was born in 1850 then he must have come across in 1851 or 52. Also, why is nothing known about the parents? They are not even mentioned here in Holmes County. Can you shed any light on Gottleib and John's past? Or any other siblings? Can you supply info on John: marriage, children, relevant dates, did he live in Holmes, Tuscarawas or Coshocton Counties? Obviously, I have more questions than answers at this time.
