Thank you so much for your reply. I don't think you gave me your name. My name is Jerie Louise Bonnet Clowes. Bonnet being my father's surname and Clowes being my married name. It would be great to keep in touch since I never knew anyone from my mother's side of the family. There seems to have been some kind of breach in the family and I was never told anything about the Goshorns. It is very exciting for me to meet someone from mother's family. She passed away on October 3, 1983. Thank you very much for the information you sent. I am struggling right now not to bombard you with dozens of questions. My personal email address is jerie.clowes@gmail.com. I live in New York City and have two children and three grandchildren. My husband and I are separated.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best, Jerie

Re: Charlotte Meridith Goshorn

Hi Cousin Jerie!! My father, Meridith Bruce Goshorn, was Dorothy Dale Goshorn's only brother. He was born in 1925 and died in 1975. I have been researching the Meridith part of the family which has been challenging because of the unusual spelling. (The Goshorns have a large book already) I did find out that Charlotte Meridith Goshorn was actually the grand-daughter of Dr Meridith DDS of Frankfort Indiana. She was the daughter of Lu Armstrong Meridith, who was a jeweler and Ida O'Duffy. From some of the census records it looks like Ida died in 1889 (I am assuming from childbirth but I haven't been able to verify this) Apparently her father Lu, took Charlotte back to his mother and father(Dr. James W. Meridith & Eliza J. Armstrong), who still had younger children at home, and that was where she was raised. I only put this together after ordering her Social Security info and it had her parents name on it and looking up the children of Dr. James W. Meridith. There were other Goshorns in Kansas City in the early to mid 1900's so you may be finding Jane from another branch. I found my father in a Bible entry with the correct birthdate but a different name "Paul" which was his father's brother's name. There may have been a disagreement about what to name him. Charlotte and her husband Herbert Renner Goshorn separated in 1930. Herbert went to live on his farm in Humboldt Kansas and Charlotte stayed in Kansas City with the children. I don't know if they ever divorced. I hope this helps! Let's keep in touch!

Charlotte Meridith Goshorn was also my grandmother. I never knew her and would also like information about her. It is only recently that I have started searching my family history. Dorothy Dale Goshorn was my mother and she was born in 1919 and died in 1983. I was looking at the 1920 census for Kansas City and noticed that there was a one year old daughter named Jane Elizabeth listed but my mother, who would have been 8 months old, was not listed. Jane Elizabeth Goshorn was not listed on the 1930 census but my mother was. If you have any information about Jane Elizabeth I would greatly appreciate hearing whatever you know.

It took a bit of finesse, but I found William Henderson Goshorn's obituary -- Fort Wayne News (Fort Wayne, Indiana) > 1900 > June > 9., in part:

Obituary -- Fort Wayne News (Fort Wayne, Indiana) > 1900 > June > 9
. . .
William Goshorn was born in Pennsylvania in 1835 and would have been 65 years old had he lived a few months longer. He came to Fort Wayne in 1866 and soon entered the office of the county engineer. . .
. . .
A host of friends will mourn his death and sympathize with his bereaved daughter, Mrs. Laura Goshorn Detzer, who is the only immediate relative surviving. Mr. Jacob Goshorn is a cousin.

The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock, and will be private. Rev. Dr. Moffat will officiate.
--------------------
He died from the effects of diabetes.

Thanks, Carolyn, that was a fast reply. This particular family is not in my direct line but I will add it to the correct Goshorn family in my computer. I am having more luck with the in-law lines than I do with the direct lineages. LOL. Genealogy is such fun that way. I like to find out just how the different famlies seem to spread out and where you find one, you are more likely to find another one. My Goshorn line is thru Milo G., Thomas, Andrew, David, Leonard & Johann Georg. The Goshorn spelling changes have befuddled me on occasion as well as other family's that came from Germany as they angelized their names. I am glad that you found this obit. It is very informative.
Irene

Am looking for anyone who is related to Lorenia Goshorn who married Jacob Collins. I am their Great Great Granddaughter through Lorenia and Jacob's daughter, Emma Ritta Collins b. November 16, 1862 who married Daniel Phillip Livingston on January 30, 1883 in Lightsville, Darke County, Ohio.

The Collins/Goshorn family was lost to Emma's descendants about 100 years ago due to separation caused by the poverty of the Collins family and the death of Lorenia. It would be so wonderful to find anyone connected to this family. Am willing to share all research which I have about Emma and her family.

Hi! I cannot believe my luck. I happened to look at this string of messages out of many, and I think I found my great grandfather. My paternal grandfather was Ellsworth Morgan Goshorn, born on December 9, 1884, in Kansas. His mother's maiden name was Fisher. I don't know her first name. When I saw your message, I believe we are talking about the same person, who you listed as born on Dec. 2, 1884. He had three children, two from a previous marriage (Virginia and Walter), and my father, Ellsworth Morrow Goshorn (b. 8/25/1924, d. 7/17/94). My brother and I are his only biological children. I had been aware of a book of Goshorns that someone in Pennsylvania put together, but I was left out of it because of my brother's negligence. He however, is in the book. So, is my Ellsworth Morgan Goshorn the same one as the one you list? How can we find out?

Hi! I happened to be scanning your message and found mention of Ellsworth Morgan Goshorn. He was my paternal grandfather. You mentioned he died in 1884, but actually, he was born on December 9, 1884, in Kansas. Could this be the same person? If so, I am looking for information about him. I have his mother's maiden name, but that is about all so far. I am trying to trace my branch of the Goshorn family back as far as I can. Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Eugene, Yes my grandfather was Kenneth C. Goshorn. I just found out that his middle name was cecil. I always believed it was Kurtis. I got in touch with Floyd Goshorn who has my family tree done back to 1500`s with alot of help from other researchers. Hes sending me a copy of the Goshorn history. Are we related somehow? Sincerely Mary Wheeler

Regarding your April 4 request for information about Kenneth "Kurtis" Goshorn's father, are you referring to Kenneth C. Goshorn, born Feb. 23, 1907, and died June 19, 1987 in Michigan and lived in Bethel, Branch County, Michigan? If so, he is the son of Curtis Leroy Goshorn, born January 23, 1880, in Ohio and deceased March 2, 1968, and buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Reading, Michigan. Curtis Leroy Goshorn was the son of Philip and Elizabeth (Gearhart) Goshorn. If so, please tell me more about your grandfather, including why you are spelling his name with a "K."
