I am looking for this person born 1918 to Peter (maybe Edward E) and Pearl Gosney. Lived in Quincy, Illinois around 1947-1949. Enlisted in the service around 1941. Alva died in Huntington Beach, CA April 1973. Siblings are Raymond Merl, Goldie E, Zelma C and Pauline. Trying to find any relatives that could give me any information.

I have a Mary Ann Colvin, born abt. 1848, KY, who married 9 Feb 1871 in Pendleton County, KY to James Lawhorn. James and Mary Ann stayed in Pendleton County until at least Dec 1878 for the birth of their son, Sylvester, and then appeared in Lincoln County, KY in the 1880 census. That is the last appearance of Mary Ann and it is presumed she died as James remarried in 1891.

The 1880 census states she was born in KY as were both her parents. There are 4 families separating James and Mary Ann from John W. and Helen Gosney, ages 58 and 57 respectively, both born in Virginia. They are not possible parents, as they have a daughter, Mary, living at home, but they may be some relation.

Hello I am looking for information on Mary Gosney who was born abt 1848 in MO her mother was Jane A (last name unknown) born abt 1823 in North Carolina and her papa was ? Gosney born in Virginia. She married George Jacobs brn abt 1840 and had 4 children one who was John Edwin Jacobs. She may have had at least two siblings named James Gosney abt 1850 and Samuel Gosney abt 1852. She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church of West Elizabeth. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a retail clerk by the former Kaufmann's department store.

Jason I have the same info on William & Ann that you have.
I have one child listed for them Lucy Margaret b abt 1785 but I'm sure there were other children. I do have William's parents as Charles Taylor & Elizabeth. Lucy marr anothr ancestor of mine . She marr Michael Tanner 22 Jan 1801 in Madison. Michael was the son of Robert Tanner.

Hi Jason,
I believe that the information that Mary's father was James Taylor was from the marriage bond. I am not sure of that as I have not seen it myself. I only have record of the marriage between James and Mary in Orange.
I will have to check it out personally to see if the bond mentions her parents or not.
In the meantime, I will pursue William and see if I can come up with anything.
Anyone else out there have any ideas?

I have wondered if Mary Taylor who married James Melton might have been a daughter of William Taylor and Ann Hensley. William was born 1754 in Caroline Co., VA and died 1841 in Madison Co., VA. I have seen that William and Ann were married 1-1-1780 in Culpeper Co., VA

The only information that I have on Mary is not confirmed but that her father was James Taylor and her mother an Elizabeth. There was a James Taylor who married an Elizabeth Bark in the area and correct time frame but I have no proof that this is the correct parents. I would surely love to take this line back another generation.
Taylor and Dawson are tough to track down.

Hi John - I have no further information on Alfred - could be your connection. There are no descendants listed for him so possible his family lost track of him if he emigrated. This Alfred is 4th child of 6 siblings (plus one who died in infancy also named Alfred but spelled Allfred). Only one (James) has death date listed. If you like, I could scan the pages that pertain to this & send them to your direct email address. Let me know.

Since I posted that message I've learned a few things about my Alfred. He worked on a Trans Atlantic Cable laying ship before coming to Newfoundland. He landed in Trinity, NL in 1868, meet and married his wife there in 1868. He went on to work as a fisherman for a while but later went to work as a telegraph repairman fixing the overland lines. Perhaps as a weaver, he was used to splice together the lengths of cable being laid in the ocean. If my Alfred is your Alfred, I will gladly accept any info into his past.

Just found your reply to my message from long ago. I now have my Gosney tree going back to 1743. First entry is Charles Gosney died Crewkerne, England 1743. My particular ancestors later moved to Bristol. My grandfather emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1912. He only had one son & he only had two daughters so the name is gone from our family. I found through the internet a fourth cousin living in Bristol & we have corresponded for the last four years. There is a Michael Gosney in England who is researching all the Gosneys. If you have some info about yours you might be able to get your tree from him. But you need something to go on. Let me know if you want further information.

On the Gosney tree I belong to I found an Alfred Gosney born in Crewkerne 1842. Occupation hair cloth weaver. One of six children of James Gosney & Elizabeth Furzer. Any connection?

Thelma Streeter married W. Brian or Bryan Gosney probably in Kansas City, MO. Thelma was the daughter of Roxie Streeter and Anna Blanche White. She was born about 1907 according to census. On the 1910 census the family is in Alger Co., Munsing Twp., MI. Her mom died 1911 and Thelma lived in Chariton Co., MO with her grandmother White. Roxie remarried a gal named Rosa and is in Jackson Co., Kaw Twp., MO by 1920 with his new wife and daughter, Alma who is 3 years old. Roxie Streeter's folks were May Streeter and Jennie Burks.
Would appreciate any help I can get on this. I did find a SS death record for a Thelma May Gosney, born 6/23/1907 and passed away 11/22/2003 in Kansas City, but unsure if this is her since her middle initial on the census in 1920 is J.
I know that Thelma was living just outside of Kansas City in 1950, but would like to know more about her and her children if there were any, and her husband

Hello John, my grandfather was Alfred Gosney who died in Santa Clara county in 1955. My mother was his daughter. I have also been trying to research the Gosney's. According to my mother, Alfred and Sarah were married in Newfoundland. He came with the company that was laying the transatlantic cable, went back to England and then came back to Newfoundland. Their daughter Minerva married Richard Milton/Melton and their daughter Annie Blanche Melton is my grandmother. Actually I believe that Robert F. was Annie Blanches uncle .I am so glad to get that informationon him. Do you have any information on Richard Milton/Melton or Minerva Dawson. I have that Minerva was the daughter of John Dawson and Lucy Gosney but have nothing positive before those names. John Dawson was such a common name that I have had no luck tracking him down.
I believe that Richard Melton was the son of James C. Melton and Mary Taylor. This is thought to be the James Melton mentioned in the will of James Melton of 1798. He lived in the part of Orange Co. that is in what is now Madison Co. so I was given the info that this was the lineage. If you have anything to back this up, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Martha J. Gosney and Harrison James Shelton are my gg gr parents and lived in KY, MO, back to KY and then IN.

Annie Blanche's brother Robert R. marr Judith F. J. Rosson 5 Jan 1865 in Madison Co. Judith was the dau of Bartlett Rosson Jr. & Christina McAllister. Bartlett Jr. was the son of my ggg grandparents Bartlett Sr. & Elizabeth Huffman.

I am hoping that you may be able to help me out on a Gosney ancestor of mine. Her name was Lucy Gosney. She married a John Dawson on 10-15-1799 in Culpeper, VA. I know that your posting showed that the Gosney family you are connected to have ties in that area. I believe that she was probably related to them possibly as one of William's sons children. My dad is the Maas from Vandalia. Virginia's daughter Helen Irene (Martin) Maas was my grandmother. What I have so far (unverified) is this:

Virginia Gosney b. (9/13/1871 d. 10/14/1945)
William Henry Gosney (b.1845)-Father, Mary Jane Smith-Mother
John Joseph Gosney (b.6/1/1824)-Father, Elizabeth ??? -Mother
Isabel Yelton (b.1784)-Mother, John Gosney (b.1794)-Father
Charles G Yelton (b.1746)-Father & DAR Patriot, Mildred Ellis (b.1750)-Mother

There are a few generations past that, but I haven't been able to link Virginia to William Henry Gosney. Any information that you can provide would be great.

My dad has documented some of his knowledge. It includes some information about the Gosneys, Martin's, Fuch's, Wolf's & Maas'. Mostly in the Marion County area in southern Illinois, but also some in Chicago in the 1910-1920's.

I just came across this post. My maiden name is Gosney, and I believe Thelma may have been my great aunt by marriage. She was married to my grandfather's brother, William Bryan Jennings Gosney. If this is the same woman, the 2003 death would be correct. I can check with my aunt, who took care of her until her death about her middle name and if she knew anything else about her. They never had any children and lived in Kansas City, MO, as long as I knew them. Hope this helps.

i sure need some help. my grandmothers's second husband was homer e. gosney born 1889 died in sept 1946 in deland florida due to his death cert. on his dc it says body was removed to butler kentucky for burial.my gm was lillie mccoy. she and mr. gosney couldnt have been married long as my grandfather died in feb. 1945. thanks emma
