Hi Julie, It look like the story that was told was true. My dad and I had look for your dad for a few years we went to VT. looking for the two brothers of his dad. At last account my dad Charles Goss son of Carleton Goss found brother Carlton Goss living in Boston MA. Is this your father? My dad pasted away in 1998 and in 1996 I put information for Carlton Goss married to a Mary Goss (I made up the name Mary to see if any one would write with the real name) but there suppose to be Charles and Carlton sons of Carlton Goss from 1st marriage.
Well the whole family can be found at http://gossfam.norgoss.com my Goss family ties site since 1996. Hope to hear from you. Oh I have a picture of Grace
Dimick who died at age 23 and her father Charles Dimick also died at age 23. But she died after giving birth to Carlton in 1898.

Ron Goss Keeping Genealogy free for the family.

I am tracing Goss Linage and have hit a brick wall. My great grandfather was Nathaniel Goss born in SC and moved to Alabama. He married Polly Garvin also born in SC and they had several children: Vurly, Isabelle, Minnie, Columbus, Geneva, etc.

Nathaniel and Polly are both buried in Alabama.
Nthaniel born between 1852 and 1858 died in 1920
Polly born about1870 and died in 1949.

I do not know any of Nathaniel's brothers or sisters or his parents.
Thanks
cpfinley@bellsouth.net

I know it's been a long time since you entered this post, but I'm new to the use of Ancestry.com and just ran across your question. My father, Gerald Goss was the younger brother of Maynard Goss. He was a coal miner and I remember meeting him and his wife before their death. Parents of Maynard, Gerald and other siblings were Albert D. and Mabel Goss. This can be confirmed in the 1930 census in Lawrence Township PA.

Hi Michael,

My great grandfather Michael Goss born 1871 also worked in Guinness, beginning his employment in 1895. His son, another Michael Goss, my grandfather worked in Guinness also.

Seems like there's a strong link between the Goss Family and working in Guinness,

Claire Goss

Hi Noel,
My my family came from Knocknanna where the family had a farm where the present GAA pitch is. Our name used to be spelt Gosse but this was changed sometime in the late 1800's. The old spelling can be seen in the graveyard at home place.
My great grand father was a trader that used to go to Dublin on a Monday with the horse and cart taking up any goods to be sold at the Dublin markets and return on Saturday with any good bought and the money for goods sold. One of his sons (my grandfather) went to Dublin about 1870 and got a job in Guinness where he made foreman and retired about 1915. My father was also in Guinness and started in 1912 and retired in 1965. We live just outside Aughrim, Co Wicklow
My Paternal Grandmother came from Hacketstown from the same town land as your family. Her name was Mary Byrne.
Regards
Michael Goss
Re: Goss Family Research

I have some information of the Goss family from Clear Creek, Monroe County, Indiana. My father's mother was Linnie Bell Goss his father was Charles Thomas Martin. Linnie Bell was daughter of Enoch Goss, son of Jesse A. Goss, son of John Goss married to Abigail Osborne. I can trace them back to Captain John Goss. My father's family is Goss, Martin, Mathers who settled in Indiana. Mostly in the Bloomington, Indiana area. The majority of them are buried in Clear Creek Cemetary, Bloomington, Indiana. I spent alot of my childhood decorating the graves there and have made several trips in recent years to transcibe grave markers.

Searching the John B. GOSS + Catharine FOUTS line, I came across the GOSS family of St Clair Co., AL which includes your James Ransome GOSS + Charlotte RANDLES? They must have married before 1868 as they are found on the 1860 Census of St. Clair Co., Twp 16-18, Coosa Valley PO. with son James H., age 3mos., living next to James R.'s brother Seaborn? Ceabron? Seabron? S.A. GOSS, b. 1833 (the spelling of this name seemed to baffle the census takers)

These brothers were in St. Clair on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census. James R. + Charlotte GOSS had 9 children.

Betty Goss

Hi, I'm a newbie to the ancestry search...this is a query for the surname Goss...Betty Goss is my gggrandmother and this is what I know about her...actually her first name may or may not be Betty but if it is Elizabeth is another fit...anyway...one of her daughter, May Elise McBride is my ggrandmother...Betty was a prostitute first and then became a madam of her own bordello, in Alaska, maybe Valdez...she may have had 2 brothels, one in Alaska during the summer and one in Seattle Washington during the winter. May Elise's father, my gggrandfather, was a circuit judge up in Alaska and favored Betty when he was there. When my grandma May was about 4 yrs. old Betty made Austin, the judge, take May because a brothel was no place to raise a child although Betty did have a couple more childern, girls...So Austin told his wife who no one knows the name of and they raised May. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
Allie

Pollyanna Goss Howard

I am trying to find information on my great-great-grand- mother, Pollyanna Goss Howard. She may be the same as Mary Polly Goss, who was born in Alabama in 1813 and married a James Howard (born in Wales, according to my grandmother).
James may have had a brother who married Pollyanna's sister. Pollyanna was supposed to have been Cherokee. I can inderstand why it is difficult to find evidence for this, but people in my family remember her.

I have found information about this person but some of the details do not seem to work out. My ancestor had at least three children: Susan, John, and William (my great-grandfather), born 1853. John and William married sisters
(Margaret and Sarah Ann Burns from Blount County, Alabama). I have much, much information on the Burns family, but I have had trouble with the Goss and Howard families.

I would appreciate any help that may be available.

Frances Stewart
