Here is what I know about our family:
My grandfather, Paul Gotaas was born in Trondheim (sp?) Norway on June 2, 1901. He came to Canada in 1927 and three of his siblings followed after. He married Hilda Rolseth on June 9, 1932 here in Camrose, Alberta. Grandma was born in Minnesota. Grandpa won the cross country 40 mile ski race between Banff Alberta and Jasper Alberta in 1932. He held the champion bicycling Norwegian mile race record for a long time. Also had records for cross country skiing in Norway. He was invited to the Olympics but could not raise the money to go. Anyways, Grandpa Paul Gotaas was the youngest in his family. His father was a minister and his mother died when he was 2. His mother's wedding dress is in the museum in Oslo. His siblings from the oldest and down are:
Kate Gotaas: Has a daughter named Kari who is still living in Norway and is married to a Dr.
Agil Gotaas: Has son named Paul and a daughter named Anamore
Chris Gotaas: Came to Camrose Alberta. I can remember him and his wife June and they had daughters Sonja Hendrickson (professor) and Mary Anne Davies both of which live in Victoria British Columbia Canada.
Radar Gotaas: He was the engineer of the Lions Gate Bridge. He was asked to go to south Africa but turned it down and then lost all his money in the stock market. (came to Vancouver Canada)
Arnie Gotaas: was a forest engineer (came to Vancouver Canada)
Carl Gotaas: My father was named after him. He had two sons. They were cross country skiing on a lake and one fell in, and the other tried to save him but they both drown. Both were married with children. Carl was in the 2nd WW. He was a professor and a book was written about him and how he helped the King of Norway over into Sweden when the Germans invaded Norway.
There was another sister that died at birth.
My dad said that he had three cousins still alive in Norway. Anamore, Paul and Kari. Now, Grandpa and Grandma had 3 children. Carl (my dad), Paul and Solveigh. They all grew up in Camrose, Alberta Canada. That is a whole other story. Does anyone have any information on this family?
