The reply goes to everyone who has asked to be alerted to a reply to ANY post in that area of the board (I get a reply to my own posts)
In order not to get a reply, there's a little box at the mid-left of the screen "Send me an alert when anyone replies to this thread." check it on get a reply. Un-check it, and there will be no further replies from this particular board.
For those who are new to the internet, there are free lessons online:

is rather heavy on graphics if you have a slow connection; however, if one does a search engine "genealogy lessons" there are sites where it isn't necessary to have more money then detective qualities in order to find that which we seek.
It has been my experience that I have found members of my extensive living family on message boards and generous sharing of resources through mailing lists.
