GOUDIE KENNEDY

My wife, here in the United States, is Patricia Brown, a granddaughter of David and Helen GOUDIE or GOUDY (maiden name). They lived in Whitehall, Maybole, southwest of Glasgow.

There are Goudies living in Maybole. Two ladies, surnamed Goudie, and living in Maybole, are not sure of their ancestry but apparently have some relationship to one or more people with the surname Kennedy.

Any genealogical information on these two names from the Maybole area will be helpful. We do have a record of a baptism of an infant Richard on October 23, 1833, the child of a David KENNEDY and a Helen GOUDIE.

There were about five Kennedy clans in the area, usually feuding with, an annihilating, each other. There are several castles, originally belonging to the several Kennedy clans, in the Maybole area.

My name is Owen and, I would like to trace my family history before my names sake James Goudie. If anyone has information about his family prior to his coming to Canada I would be very grateful. James Goudie was born in 1809 in Scotland , the Orkney islands I believe. He died in 1887 in or around Victoria B.C. Canada. Thank you

Goudie & various spellings

I have been doing my only family Genealogy and have discovered that there are many versions of spellings of the name Goudie which originated in the Shetland Islands. It is actually Norwegian in its early 13th century beginnings with Gade. If any of you are having a hard time finding your name - here are some other versions - Goudie, Goude, Goudy, Gaudie, Gadie, Galdie, Gowdy, Gowdie, Gowde, etc.

Looking for the descendents of George Goudie.

I have a photo I would like to return to the family of George. Unfortunately the photo was damaged in a fire and the lower left corner of the photo card was burned away, but the actual photo of George was not damaged. The photo was a gift to an ancestor of mine and when I was given all the documentation and information on my family history by my parents the photo was encluded.

On the back of the photo it is written--- Geo. Goudie Horse Heaven (Kiona).

Horse Heaven is between the Canadian and Washington State boarder area near Kiona.

If you are a relative of George's please contact me.

Ontario Goudie

I've been looking over the past postings on this board, and I think a couple of my relatives have been here already (on my mother's behalf), but I think I can fill in a few more blanks, and perhaps someone may spot a connection.

My Great-Grandfather was Ernest Joseph Goudie (Dec 17 1891 - Dec 30 1968). His wife was Ethel A. Goudie.

His parents were Joseph Goudie (Nov 1 1854 - Jan 11 1933) and Jessie Goudie (nee Tucker) (Apr 14 1855 - Nov 25 1948) and they married July 16 1885.

Joseph had a sister Ella C. Goudie (? - Feb 22 1936) who married an Ernest Austin Norris (? - ?).

Their father was John Goudie.

We believe that Joseph and Ella were born and raised in the US, (likely Kansas City, Missouri) and we know that Ernest and Ella had at least two children: Jean Austin Norris (? - Mar 3 1981) and Jessie Marguerite Norris (? - July 20 1980).

We can't reliably say how far back the current spelling of "Goudie" actually goes (but likely only to Ernest), with likely alternate spellings being "Gowdie" and "Gouldie."

We are looking for help finding the dates of birth, death and marriage for Ernest Norris and Ella C. Norris (nee Goudie) as well as the wife of and dates for John Goudie.

If there's anyone out there on this list who has something that might help us overcome this years-old roadblock I'd love to here from you.

Regards,

Eric Goudie
grinder@grinderproductions.org

I have found a Laurance GOUDIE in my research, born 1827 in Shetland Scotland according to the 1871 census; he married Jane ? born 1827 and they had 3 children, Ann, born 1863 who married my great grandfather James GIBSON in 1885, Eliza J; born 1865 and Leslie JOHNSON born 1869 listed in 1881 as stepson. They lived in the North Shields area of (then) Northumberland.

Can anyone expand on my Goudies? In the 1881 census they are called GOWDIE.

Thanks in advance

Keith Steven

I have a grand old carte-de-visite photograph of "Father Goudie" which I would like to reunite with family members. Photo was taken by G. W. Chesley Studio in Owatonna (Steele Co.) MN about 1865-1875+or-. The only Goudie listed in 1870 Steele Co. census is William Goudie, in Havana. If you are related to this family, email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

There are also Goudies in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa, and Washington Stated. The oldest member of our Goudie line that I can find is George B. Goudie. He is supposed to have been born in Ireland about 1798 (no proof), married Mary Ann ??? who was born about 1798 in Connecticut. They had five children, all born somewhere in Canada. Elizabeth (b. abt 1827), John (b. abt 1831), Samuel (b. abt 1833), Mary C. or Mary A. (b. abt 1833), and George Bates Goudie (b. 1836). George Bates was my ggrandfather. Would love to hear from anyone who can connect.....or shed any light on the situation.

Margaret Goudie

My gg-grandmother is Margaret Goudie, who married Daniel Weir. It is clear from family stories and census records that she was from Scotland. Apparently she was born around 1827, although I haven't been able to prove that. I've found a marriage record of Margaret Goudie to Daniel Hunter Weir in Sep 1848, St. Quivox & Newton, Ayr, Scotland -- but haven't been able to confirm this is indeed my gg-grandparents. Their first 4 children were born in Scotland, named John, James, Daniel, Anna. Then the family moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, by 1861, where they stayed a while and had 2 more girls (one is my g-grandmother). Then they moved to Ohio, where they had some more children.

Family story says that Margaret's father was John, and her mother was Agnes Gray, from Edinburgh, and that Agnes' father was Robert Gray, also from Edinburgh.

Does anyone have any information about this Margaret Goudie? I'm at a dead end on her, would love to know her parents, any siblings, birth place and date.

Many thanks.

GOUDIE Family in PA and IN around 1816

Looking for information on the GOUDIE family. Living in either Westmoreland Co., or maybe Fayette Co., PA, until around 1816. Members of the Tyrone Presbyterian Church then, which is located between Scottdale and Dawson, PA. Family removed to Franklin Co., IN, where they were possibly among founders of the first Presbyterian church in Franklin Co. Only info I have is a Samuel Goudie married to a Rebecca Stout in Franklin, Co., both probably born around 1800. I believe the family had ties to my Cummins family, and would appreciate any input.
