Desendants of Manuel Silveira Goularte & Rosaria Gloria Batista

My great grandfather was Manuel Silveira Goularte, born in Feteira, Faial, Azores in 1872. He immigrated to California and married Philomena Pereira ROSA in Centerville (now Fremont), Alameda County, CA. They had two daughters and his wife, aka Minnie, died.

Manuel remarried in 1910 to Rosaria Gloria BAPTISTA, born around 1887 in Portugal or Azores, in Centerville. They had the following children that I would like to find information on:

Edward Richard Goularte, born 1911
Manuel, born 1913 but died young
Minnie born 1914
Andrew born 1916
Joseph born 1918

Manuel Silveira Goularte died 18 Sep 1938 in Irvington, Alameda County, CA.

Rosaria Goularte died in 1938. Both are buried in Centerville.

Any information on this family would be most appreciated. The surname could be spelled in different ways; GOULARTE, GOULART, GULARTE, GULART.
-----------------------------
In addition, Manuel's older brother, Jose Silveira Goularte immigrated to Alameda County, CA as well. He married Rosaria Florinda Amarel about 1895 in Alameda County. He had the following children I would also like to trace:

Manuel P. Goularte, born 1898, married Aldina SEQUEIRA
Joe, born about 1901
Frank, born about 1909

Jose Silveira Goularte died in 1941, his wife, Rosaria, died in 1952.
---------------------------------------

I have traced the ancestors of Manuel & Jose Goularte and invite you all to check it out on my website: http://www.pacifier.com/~kcardoz
Click on my Family Tree.

Also, I am the coordinator for the Azores GenWeb site and invite you to come and see what there is there to aid in your research of Azorean ancestors.

Thanks and happy hunting to us all!
Kathy

Oops,
Lori, we do not know much about our ancestry which has made my search all the more difficult. I do know that most of our Goularte's and Silveira's cam from Pico. I have been told we were related to President Goulart, but have not found out how just yet.
Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. Or, if there is anyplace that you may have a family tree setup or anything like that where we could try and cross reference, that would be unbelievably helpful.
(small plug here) You could always make a family tree at www.goularte.com as well.
Most of what I know for sure is on that site, though I have more names floating around here that I have yet to figure out how they are linked to the others.
We have quite a few cases of where we know that so and so is related, but not a clue how (yet)
Michael Goularte

Can you tell me when Frank Goularte was born??
My great grandfather also has the Goularte name, actually he used the name Goulart Silva.....he dropped the e on his name, his name was Joseph Goularte Silva..... he used the Silva last name. He has brothers that came to California. I do believe Frank was one of them. Do you recall that Frank ever lived in San Luis Obispo County? I am interested in hearing from you. My great grandfather was born in the Azores in 1875. deesilva@digitalputty.com

Shelly you and I really need to get together. I am most certain you are I are talking of the same Goulart/Goularte family. My great grandfather was named Joe Goulart he actually also spelled it Gulart.... He was born in 1875. He lived in Fresno are. He used the name Joseph/Joe Goulart/Gulart Silva. I had seen somewhere that the name of his father may have been Joseph Goularte da Silva and mother Maria Josefa Da Conceicao. I am thinking about buying the certificates for the family which indicate baptismal records in the Azores. lori I know he also had several brothers. One or two of them lived near the Fresno valley, I know that someone went to live near the coast of San Luis Obispo in Cayucos, Morro Bay, Cambria or somewhere around there.
**one of the problems I have is that all my Portuguese names are so common. Silva, Goularte, my great grandmother is a Freitas, other names that come in somewhere are..... I had some cousins named Vincent, Vincente, Vicente....as I have pictures of them. Also Souza, which my Silva family also married into, Bettencourt, Garcia, Jorge, George, Gorge, also Henriques, Salca, Roderick, Rodrigues, and a million more.
deesilva@digitalputty.com

Hi! It is a possibility that we're related. My great-great-grandmother was Maria Louisa Goularte (Goulart). Her parents were Manuel P. Rosa Maria Rosa Goularte. I believe they were from Faial island but haven't been able to prove it yet. Maria Louisa was born 24 Oct 1833. She died in Falmouth, Mass. on 26 Oct. 1924.

E-mail if you know more about the Goularte's.
My e-mail address is: Cara Bela@aol.com
