I have just started work on my family tree which includes the Gouldman family from Manchester. We have a Harry Gouldman who we know emigrated to the States and whose parents were Morris and Rebecca. Morris was from Poland and they had 11 children. At some time the spelling changed from Goldman to Gouldman

POW/MIA Korean War GOULDMAN

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Genesse County, Michigan as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ALFRED V GOULDMAN
Born: April 6, 1930 Caucasian
Date of loss: October 13, 1930 MIA
Service # 16265734
G Co 7th Cav Rgt, 1st Cav Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Gouldman family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Robert and Nancy are our connection to Thomas Gouldman from England who married Alice Forbess Aubrey; and Thomas Gouldman left the Goldberry Plantation to his granddaughter ,Elizabeth Gouldman; who married Thomas Waring. This plantation was held by the decendents of Elizabeth Gouldman Waring for most 200 yrs.

Richard Gouldman and wife Anne in 1790.
Thomas Gouldlman and wife Phoebe (Snow?) 1810.

Robert died in VA. in the 1800's and Nancy took their children and moved to AL. Their Children are:

There was just these 6 children and Joseph Gouldman and Virginia and they are my Husbands Great Grandparents. The records we found there named two sons. James Edward Gouldman and Robert Gouldman.
James Edward Gouldman came to TX and Married a McCabe. We have not found his brother Robert, but we believe he also came to TX.
James Edward and Nellie Helon McCabe had 6 children. The last one was named James Edward Gouldman and is the father of my Husband, who is named Jq Gouldman, an initial name only. He is married to me, Lola Jean Hill; and we had 3 sons.

Hello. My name is Stephanie Gouldman. I am John Alfred Gouldman Jr's oldest daughter. My dad John died in 1987 in either Niles, MI or IN. My mother Vickie and John divorced in 84 or 85 or 86. But they had been seperated since 82 or 83. This was when he was living in the Seattle, WA area. When he left he moved back to his mom's (Mary Ellan) in Niles, MI. John has an older brother named David and an older sister named Edy. Since my mother kept me and my two younger sisters (Shivonne and Selena) away from John and his family we are not close with any of them any more. I usually exchange Christmas cards with Mary Ellan but due to a financial situation on my part I was unable to send one this year and I have moved since last Christmas so she was unable to send me one. My sister, Shivonne says that she is in contact with them a few times a year but I am not sure if she is stating all of the truth. ( Long stories) She also is stating that Mary Ellan has had a few strokes over the past couple of years. She also said that Dave is over near Iraq since he is in the Navy. He was stationed at the Naval base on Whidbey Island here in WA for a few years. Well I hope this all helps you. My name is Brian Goldman. My family is located in Charlotte County, Va. What is unique to our name is that we are black. And as far as I know the name was probably taken from the slave owner. I have been looking for plantations run by any Goldman families in the state of Virginia. As far back that I can go is in the mid-1800s where I can trace my ggGrandfathers name being Abram Goldman.

Has anyone heard of a young Gouldman, in his 20`s, being killed in Id or Il? This is what my mother was told of her grandfather.. She thought his name was John Gouldman, leaving a wife and 1 or 2 little boys. The wife went on to marry many times and lived to be an old age. Hi Steve: I've done some research on the Gouldman family of Essex Co.,Virginia as they appear to be an allied family of my Virginia Donohos. Some wills of the Gouldman family contain Donohos as witnesses etc. Do you have any information on these Essex Co. Gouldmans? Were they businessmen or lawyers? In the 1760's the Donohos and some of the Gouldmans moved into Bedford Co., VA but previous to this they were in Essex Co.

Seeking information on Elizabeth Gouldman and her family. She was born circa 1829 in Indiana and married Moses Like on 25 April 1849. They lived in Knox County, IN. Had three children: Nancy about 1850, William about 1853 and Jacob in Feb 1860. Checked the censuses and can't find an Indiana Gouldman who really fits. Daniel Gouldman in Leavenworth, IN, would be the best fit, but he did not have a daughter on the 1830 census.

...I yi yi...you have my sympathy. It's hard enough trying to dig up dead people without having to find their "owners". I have been contacted by others who are descended from people owned by my ancestors, and it's an awful feeling to know this is part of my history.
The only thing I can suggest is locating wills of Gouldman family members, usually though, there is only a first name given for a slave - I hope you have those at least.

Much of this is based on Edwards will (1764) which lists his siblings and neice (? - I can't access it right now, sorry).
As I understand, some Gouldmans were lawyers and were also close friends with the PARKERS. My gggggrandfather was Gouldman Parker (poss named after a Robert Gouldman). I also noticed a Robert Parker on a Gouldman will as a witness or executor.
At this point I'm rather mixed up as most of the Gouldman info on line does not have dates, and the forenames repeat. I do know that Gouldmans and Parkers later married, but it's been a tough one to sort out without connecting generations.
If anyone can assist me in linking the Gouldmans to my VA Parkers (later of K&Q Co), I'd be really happy...From VA, my Parkers worked their way to MS, where Gouldmans also appear.

I am looking for the family of several Gouldmans
who migrated to Perry Co., AL in the late 1830's.
The 1850 census lists four individuals sequentially,
whom I assume are related: James and John (Wagon makers)
plus Sarah and Joseph. James, the oldest was b. abt 1817
VA. In his son Edward's military service record it states
that he was b. in Essex Co., VA.

Edward Franklin Gouldman, 4th Alabama Infantry, was my GGGF. James was his father and Martha (Turner) was his mother. I believe the Nancy Turner listed living with the family was Martha's mother. According to the LDS site, James and Martha were married on 19 Dec 1836 in Caroline (County?) Virginia.

Ed married Sarah Sullivan on 20 Feb 1869. The record I saw listed it as Sarah Sullervan but it seems likely that it was the Sarah Sullivan listed in the 1860 Marengo Co census. The age exactly corresponds with the 1880 census and the border of Marengo is a stone's throw from Uniontown. Ed died on 22 Dec 1922. I have a few of his Civil War papers and a button for a CSA Veteran reunion, so I beleive he was proud of his war record during the later part of his life.

I would also like information on this line going backward from Ed and James Gouldman.

According to the LDS site, James and Martha were married on 19 Dec 1836 in Caroline (County?) Virginia. James and Martha both would have been born in the 1815-1817 timeframe. E. F. Gouldman was also listed in his service records as being born in Essex Co., Virginia in April 1838.

Any information, or possible sources of information, which you can supply would be helpful as I try to trace this line back into the 1700's.

I am still looking for info about John Gouldman. My email address has changed. I now know that the 1880 Mo census shows my grandfather at age 11, living with his mom, Emma Lawson, and stepfather, John Lawson in Wayne County Mo. His mom had already been Emma Hunt, Emma Gouldman and Emma Lawson. John had a 13 year old half sister, Pheoba J Hunt, 2 half sisters named Emaline Lawson and Rebecca Lawson. This is all that I have found. I understand that my ggrandmother, Emma, and Johns dad were born in In. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Marguerite

HELP! Gouldmans of Essex Co. VA 1700s

Looking for information on any Gouldman's who married Ramseys.
Thomas Ramsey and Francis Gouldman were both wardens of the same parish in Essex.
This same Thomas's great grandson hand a couple of Goldman Ramseys as descendants.
Wondering if any of the Gouldmans had a daughter born in the 1750s named Martha who you
do not have a spouse for or who married a Ramsey. Any information on Gouldmans of this era
is greatly appreciated. Been searching a long time.
