I believe I have some info for Ivory Govan. If this is the same person, he is my uncle. His brother Erven is my father. They were born and raised in the 1920's along with several other siblings in the SW Arkansas town of Stamps. Their father, my grandfather, was a sharecropper. Most of the family eventually migrated to Arizona.

I received a message on facebook from a woman claiming that Iam a descendant of a man named Martin Govan. I am african american and I do know for a fact that my family is from orangeburg,sc but our surname is Pelzer. Its so hard for african americans to find this type of info due to the slave trade and all, but I would definitely like to contact your cousin Bobby to learn some more information. If you look at sharedroots.com you will find that the Pughs and Robinsons were cousins. There was a transaction that took place between the two families that had to do with the sale of slaves back and forth

F.G.'s cousin, William Govan, is my ggrandfather. My mother told stories of F.G.'s father, Moore Fauntleroy Govan, who was a bit crazy and at one point lived in the hills in Alabama, where he "taught his horse to sing and eat oranges."!!!

M.F. Govan's is descended from plantation owning "first family" of VA--the Govans and the Fauntleroys.

I am descended from Martha JAMIESON's brother William who emigrated to Ontario, Canada along with their brother John and William.

I have always wondered how James Wilson GOVAN was related to James GOVAN & Marth JAMIESON and why he went to Australia with them.

Just this minute, I found the only James GOVAN born abt the right time in Scotland who is in a household with GOVAN members as well as WILSON members and wonder if he might be the 'correct' one. If so, perhaps his mother died young and her children were separated and sent to live with relatives or some such thing?

Isabella GOVAN was born abt 1822 in Stonehouse, Lanark, the eldest of their 10 children. Other than her brother John, her parents and the rest of her siblings emigrated to Australia abt 1858 and married and raised their families there.

It was always known that Isabella was abt 49 yrs of age when her mother died in 1870 in Melbourne.

An Isabella GOVAN married Feb 6 1845 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland to James HENDERSON who was also born abt 1822 in Gorbals.

Sometime just after their marriage, they went to Inverness, Inverness-shire because that is where their 1st child was born, Jane [aka Jean/Janet] Turner HENDERSON born Apr 13 and bapt May 5th in Inverness.

The rest were born in Glasgow ~

Peter born abt 1858
Alexander born Sep 11 1858 in Central District, Glasgow

Because I was only using a transcribed Index, Andrew is mistakenly listed as Alexander but I'm quite sure that's a mistake as the rest of the family, their years and places of birth are correct:

My name is James Govan and I am a direct descendant of James Govan and Martha Jamieson who sailed to Australia with their children on a ship called the Morning Light in 1858. We have produced a book about all of the descendants in Australia, we are aware that John and Isabella stayed in England. We have not been able to trace their parents who accroding to death certificates were Alexander and Isabella Govan.So I can tell you what happened to ALL of Isabellas family and their descendants.

Hi Jessica. I think your gggrandfather was from Ireland. There is a ships passenger list with a JAMES GOVAN who was a clockmaker from Ireland.

My Great grandfather was John Alexander Gavin of Bulkeley House ,Longreach, Queensland and the son of Alexander Gavin of Dalmellington Iron Co Fame
My Grandfathers brothers who were both killed at Ypre 2 hours apart in 1917 were

I am trying to trace my roots and am not getting very far, if anyone could help Id appreciate it.

My grandfather was David Mowatt, who lived in Govan until moving to Ontarion, Canada in the 70's. He was married to Cathy maiden name unknown, they had 2 children Betty, my mother and John who both lived in Ontario, Canada.

David had 1 brother James and 2 sisters Margaret and Elizabeth, his mother was Margaret maiden name unknown, she was born approx 1900 and died in the 90s. 93 i think. I cant remember my great grandfathers name as he died when i was young approximately 1968.

My great granny Margaret (Meg) had 2 sisters Lizzie and Jeannie who also lived to a rip old age of almost 100.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David holidayed in Dornoch and Embo and i know the name Mowatt has strong links in that area but i cant bridge the gap.

My granfather was David Mowatt from Govan, his mother was Margaret last name unknown, husbands name unknown, she was born approximately 1900 and had 2 sisters Lizzie and Jeanie
