It seems your G3 Thomas is also mine but you have Henry as your G2 and his brother Alfred is my G2.

My name is Kenneth George Gover. DOB 18 Jan 1940.
I have been researching my family since 2008.
I have seen your posts and thought that they were interesting. Now even more so as we seem to have quite a few connections.
My family comes from Islington in London and during my research I found my G4 was Isaac who was married to Providence.
Your G2 William was the brother of Thomas my G3!
However we have a clash of dates. I believe that William was born 1815 and Thomas was 1818. Also twins were born 1813 named Joseph and Mary.
I am not sure that you have any contacts from other relatives, but it would be great to see if we share some other family perhaps!!
I came to live in Melbourne 1971.

I am unsure you are still actively researching this line, but I am looking for female direct line descendants of Elizabeth Duvall b. 1738 who married John Gover. Purportedly I am a female direct line descendant of Elizabeth.
I have had DNA testing done, and would like to verify the results with others, who may have had DNA genealogy testing done, also.

I am trying to find references to my grandfather who was born in 1871 in Shinfield, Reading, Berkshire and was recorded as an infant in that year. I have found further references when he married my grandmother (Emily Louisa) and where he lived in the 1901 census. I have found the date of his death in 1933 in Reading so it would seem he wasn't a traveller. However there would appear to be no record of his location in either the 1881 census (aged 10) or the 1891 census (aged 20).

Glad to meet you. Yes, I would love to exchange information on Sicklers. I was just down to NJ to visit the Sicklerville area - went to the cemetery and photographed many tombstones. Also visited Glassboro (Medora Sickler Iszard lived there), Williamstown, Chews Landing and other local cemeteries, so I may have gravestones of interest to you.

I am a g-g-granddaughter of Ellen Gover Sickler, Mary Vully's sister. Ellen and Mary and sister Clara were from Bridgwater, Somerset, England. The three of them arrived in Nyc on the American Union on 3 Nov 1853.

I have information of some of their ancestors, and many of their descendants.

I have tons of information on the Sicklers, if you need it, since we are also related that way.

I'm trying to verify if, indeed, I am a descendant of an Elizabeth Gover b. 1768 and married Joshua Prestridge. Did they have a daughter, Lucy, b. 1794 who married Owen Sumner? Lucy is my 5th great grandmother.

Thank you for that information. I will try and find some further details. Providence I believe married in 1900 to Herbert Edwin Read. They were living at 4 Vittoria Street, Islington in the 1911 British census. Charley was one in the 1881 census and we know the mortality rate was pretty bad in those days. It could be that he passed on, but I will keep searching for my family. I do know that a few Govers emigrated in the mid 1800's from England we could have a connection.

I am trying to find more information about Hannah Gover. She was my great grandmother born 1855 in Ralston? Her husband was Ernest Alfred Gover (GGD) and the father of my grandfather also Ernest Alfred Gover born 1873. Other siblings are:- Alice Mary (1875), Providence Elizabeth (1877), and Charley (1880). These details are from the 1881 British census. I have nothing on my GGD other than his name on my GDs wedding certificate.
If you have anything that may help me find further information that will be good.

Mary Vully Gover(Sickler)was my mother's grandmother's Mom. Mary's daughter-Medora Parnella Sickler married Elmer Iszard. They had Elsie and Clarence. Elsie, my GM married Charles A. Peterson. They had Alma and Marie-my Mom. Marie married Earl J. Larson, Jr. and had me-Beverly and my brother Neil. My last name is now Clement and I have 3 daughters, all married and 3 grands. Mary came over from Bath, (I think) England. I have to double check. I have a family Bible entry plus the Marriage Certificate. I'd be interested in Sharing. I have lots of stuff.

There was listed a Racha B (Cox) Maxwell on the 1900 U.S.Federal Census, but the transcriptionist made lots of spelling errors. I went to the original to check them out. It should be Rachel Bertha (Cox) and Andrew Jackson Maxwell. they are my relatives also.

I not an expert on this particular branch of the family. It would either be Clata or Pat, they are direct descendants of Joshua. But I hope the following legal documents help clarify the correct Lucy you for you. These documents point to the that fact your Lucy is a daughter of Joshua Prestridge and Elizabeth Gover.

At the bottom of the will of Joshua Prestridge (I have a copy of the original if you want it.)

"We David Hudson Wm Hudson and Owen Somner do solemly swear that we saw Joshua Prestridge in his life time, sign seal and acknowledge this his last will and testment and we believe he was in the enjoyment of his proper (last word illegible)
April 16th 1818

In open Court"

Because Owen's name appears in this document would lead me to believe that Lucy (who's husband was Owen Summer)verifies that he witnessed the will of Joshua Prestridge, is his daughter.

Another legal documents names Lucinda Somner (sp), it appears as such:

So I think these two documents present a pretty sound statement that your Lucinda (Lucy) was the daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Gover Prestridge.

Lucy, (the daughter of John Prestridge and Elizabeth Walter), nothing has been documented about her after August 3rd, 1791. In that document she is listed as the fourth daughter of John and Elizabeth "Betsie" Walters Prestridge. It is a deed of gift. After that doucment nothing more has been found with her name mentioned. Nobody is sure that she lived to adulthood.

Here is the quatation of that specific deed." To Lucy Prestidge, my fourth daughter, I give a sorrel horse seven years old branded on the shoulder and Buttock "L' and Cow called Slim and yearling and bed and furniture and three pewter places And to these articles and such above mention I do forever quit, relinquish, give up all right, Title, Claim or demand giving granting and bestowing them as above and their increase of the said Chattels to my above named children and their heirs and administrators. In testimony we hereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fourth day of May and in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety one and fifteenth year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America."

Hello Steve, I am also a descendant of William Gover (1740) & Mary Marsh (1743). My records show that they also had a son William ( b 1779) who married Elizabeth Bishop (1778. They had Hannah (1803), Eliza (1804), George (1806), Sarah (1810), John (1815) & Henry (1818).
George (1806) married Mary Luker & they had 8 children, one of whom was Richard William Luker Gover (b 1850) from his marriage to Charlotte Udall.Richard & Charlotte are my great grandparents.

I have family records going back further but they have a mistake in them which makes them difficult to verify without checking the parish records. I've not got round to this yet!

I'd love to know more about Joseph & his family.Isn't the Dorset OPC site useful! I came on it when I started researching.

Thanks for your message.Here is the link between the line you're researching & mine.
William Gover (1741)m Mary Marsh.Your Lewis (1768) had a brother William (1779) who married Elizabeth Bishop.William & Elizabeth had a son George (1805-1891) who married Mary Luker.They had a son Richard William (1850) who married Charlotte Udell.Their son is my grandfather.
In researching I came across some interesting information regarding your line in the shape of Jesse Charles Gover who died in WW1 & whose records are on Ancestry.
Before William Gover (1741)the line goes right back to William Gover who was farming at Wolgarston near Corfe in 1569.I have some family papers relating to all this from some research done last century.
I am quite happy to share info.

I think I may be related to Elizabeth Gover, but am not sure. I have information that she married Joshua Prestridge b. 1770. I'm trying to verify if their daughter Lucy (Lucinda?)b. 1794 is the Prestridge who married Owen Sumner in 1814. To confuse matters, there was another related Lucy Prestridge born about the same time who was the daughter of Elizabeth Walters and John Prestridge. I am either descended from Elizabeth Gover or Elizabeth Walters. Am hoping someone might clarify matters.

Just for completeness ... don't forget the Dorset Govers who were spread North-east along the river valley from Swanage/Corfe to Dorchester then north-west towards Blandford through Milbourne St Andrew and Dewlish.

I came accross your enty on ancestry how far have you got with your research? My line i am investigating, born Corfe Moses Gover 1792 married Wareham wife Ann Hatchard Bartlett. Father Lewis Gover Corfe 1768, Father William Gover Swanage I beleive.

Have you ever found the parents of S.S. Gover?

If not I have a possible clue for you.

Robert S. Gover married Catherine Cary (Carey) 17 Oct 1816 in Loudoun County Virginia. They lived in the Leesburg area. The 1850 census shows the family - including a 19 year old son named Samuel. Catherine Cary (Carey) was from Alexandria County.

The interesting part is the middle name of Carey. As this middle name continues in use by the descendants of Robert S. Gover on into the present time.

I know this doesn't prove who S. S. Gover's parents were - but it is certainly a strong lead.

Hi: I am also a decendant of the Gover family, so far I have got back to the yeay 1765 with William,Gover who married Mary ,Marsh on feb the 4th 1765 at Worth Matravers. they had six children Joseph, born 27th apr 1766 Percilla, born 21 sep 1771 Betty, born 17th apr 17 74 Elizabeth born 24th mar 1776 George born 2nd dec 1781 Mary born 27th feb 1785. I know you posted your question years ago and I don`t know if you got an answer but I believe the name Gover is a corruption of the olde English name Go-Fair meaning one who walked gracefully! There is a link to this info on my Facebook page "Gover World"

I have relatives who lived at Woolgarston farm. I am related to the Crocker family, who I believe lived at the farm from 1790 onwards. John Crocker, married Sarah Porter, they then went on to have I think 13 children. Their daughter, Ellen Crocker, born 1815, married George Gover, who was born in Arne and lived in Corfe Castle. Im not sure, whether Georges family could have been the Gover family who had the farm before the Crocker family. I know that George was from a farming background, he became a farmer himself, and had a farm in Tyneham. Do you have any history on the farm? Have you seen pictures of the farm on the Isle of Purbeck website? Do you think that George Gover could be connected to the Gover family you are looking for? Hope to hear from you soon.

Could the ELIZABETH Gover be the one who married Thomas Hordle(B.1744) in 1799 Arne,Dorset?
If it is it could fill in a big chunk of history for me :P.

GOVER, Sarah. b1771 in Hampshire, England

Hello I am looking for details of a Sarah Gover b.1771 presumably in Hampshire.
She married Abraham Barter in 1799 at St. Mary's Church, Crawley, Hampshire. (village near Sparsholt NWW of Winchester).
She died in 1848 and is buried in the church graveyard as is Abraham who died ten years before.

I can't find any definate parents or siblings for Sarah, but a POSSIBLE clue from the parish records is that she was an illegitimate child of Jane Gover who then married shortly after.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
