Unfortunately, I think I'll probably add to this confusion.
I am a descendant of John Mackey (various spellings) and
Ella Harrison both from Fairfield, South Carolina. John
was living in the home of Emory Gowdy and his wife, along with John's two sisters Lena, who later married a Harper Philpot and Ida who later married a John Garrett. We have
been trying to figure this out for years too. Barry Gowdy
is a cousin and is listed in ancestry.com. He has some vital info. Hope this helps.
