Ontario - George, John, Fred - 1800's
I am trying to find out the history of my Gower family and am looking for any information people have, especially on the England side. All of my information from Fred back is based on census information.
My ggrandfather was Fred(rick?)L. Gower born 1883, likely in Meaford Ontario.
His parents were John Gower and Margaret (maiden name unknown). John was born (according to census information) Jan. 24, 1844 and Margaret Oct. 23, 1848. John's occupation is listed as a cooper. John and Margaret previously lived in Orillia until about 1881. They also had two other children, John A. Gower b. May 15, 1875 and Olive F. Gower b. Apr. 27, 1885.
John's mother was also named Margaret and was still alive and living with the family in 1901. She was born in Ireland around 1820. I am not 100% sure but it seems that his father was named George Gower. He was also a cooper, married to a Margaret with similar details and was living in Orillia in 1881. Before that, he was living in Whitchurch in York region Ontario from at least 1847-1871. George was born in England around 1815-1820.
Thanks in advance for any help.
