Mary.......I think I have the information you are seeking. Hulda Emilie Marquardt, my grandmother, was one of eleven children...10 girls and 1 boy. Sadie was one of her sisters. Hulda lived in Valpraiso, Indiana, Porter County. She married James Floyd Gower and they had 6 children. The youngest child was my father, George Bertram Gower.

Re: Gower's Abel, Russell ???

Ed, I am also related through Abel and Russell. My Great grandfather was a Russell Gower (1848-1934) and his Great grandfather was Russell Gower(1747-1824) married to Charlotte Reeves. I was wondering what other information you might have to help me in my searches. I have traced back to Abel Gower in 1640 but no further and can't find any of some of the wives' families. Let me know what you might help me with. Looks like we might be some kind of cousins from what I see.

Re:Gower Family:
I know only a little from my mother and some through research on the ancestry site. My mother died while I was in my early teens. She did not know her father because my grandmother and grandfather split up just before the depression when my mother was only a year old or so. There's some confusion there , so I'm trying to find out more about my grandfather. I believe he might have been married before as was my grandmother, she was a young war widow in world war one,who had arrived from England. My great great grandparents William and Mary had about twelve children, your great grandmother being one of them. I know there names and have some of the birth and death years.I'm still trying to discover more about them and my great grandparents Willam Jr. and his wife Margaret. I know my grandfather was their only son and that he had at least two sisters. They had a farm outside of London On. near a litle place called Shipka, and my great grandmother was raised near Grand Bend On.

Your post is quite old; therefore, I don't know if you already found out the information via the census, but they lived in Nankin, Wayne County, Michigan.

I have an interest in Reta M Gower who was married to Claude M Mott, because of her daughter Gwen L. MOTT b. abt 1929 who married and had a daughter named Barbara Ellen. Orginially, I was told her name was Barbara Jean. However, recently I was told it's Ellen not Jean.

Reta was a daughter of Hulda's.

Mary Bowles and John W Garrett were married in 1898 in Lafayette Co, MS. She was born 1854 in MS and he was born 1867 in GA. Was she originally a Bowles, or was she a widow when they married? In 1910, she says she has not had any children. They have Andrew J. Gower(s) b. Lawrence County, TN and his mother, Louisa Garrett Gower(s) b. SC in the house with them in 1910. Andrew Gowers is identified as a half brother. Does anyone know what the connection is here? Andrew's father was Cummins McCoy Gowers. Was Andrew a half brother to Mary or to John?

Thanks I believe Elizabeth to be my great Aunt and would like to see about family similarities. Below is work in progress -- have not located any Bible Records, wills, probate records, etc as of yet.

Elizabeth Gower married 1872 in Webster Co MO.
1870 census in Webster County MO with a Chaffin Family. 1860 she is listed with Father John & Mother Elizabeth in Wright County Missouri.
1850 she is listed with Father John & Mother Elizabeth in Coffee Co TN BUT name is listed as GoweN

Here is some of the work I've done so far:
John Gower ca 1811 TN death date UNK died most likely in Missouri

Elizabeth (maiden name UNK) ca 1824 TN/NC Date of death UNK after 1880 and in MO somewhere

William (son) ca1835 TN Found family members and they have no Bible records or any other identifying info. I did get picture of his daughter Cora. Date of death UNK but most likely died in Fredricktown (Madison) MO

Joseph (son) ca 1837 Jasper (Marion) TN found family members and again no records or pictures. I did get picture of his daughter Hattie who is double first cousin with William's daughter Cora. This family had a picture of my grandpa and his 3rd wife (only connecting item so far). No death certificate because MO did not have death certificates at the time he died.

Charles R. Gower Jan. 18, 1839 TN Death Cert states father: John Mother UNK Have no contact as of yet with decendants of this family but one member did have info on ancestry but it is very sketchy so probably no more info than I have.

Elizabeth (yours) Death cert states Father: John Mother: UNK

John H. Death cert states father: John Mother: UNK

Hollie ca1860 MO no further info

Nancy ca 1862 MO no further info

David ca 1863/68 my grandpa 99.9% of family records burned by Aunt. All that is left is a few older pictures with NO names and I believe some of them to be older generation Gower men because they have facial Gower traits but no proof because no one I've found have pictures so far. I will keep looking.

As you can see I DO NOT have enough information that verifies the above. A friend of mine and I are still currently looking and will be glad to let you know of anything I find and hope you will do the same.

If you could please talk a family member into giving us a picture of Elizabeth I would be so appreciative. I would like to compare her to the few pics I have plus see if her and my grandpa look anything alike.

The ones of us that are currently working on this family are asking family descendants to please check to see if they are in possession of older pictures that are possibly unknown we could compare with or known approx. 1800's to 1920's pictures. Also asking people to check for bible records, postcards, letters, etc.

If you want to contact me directly, my e-mail is knabe@bellsouth.net

It's nice to see that someone is asking about Elizabeth. I have been trying for years to find someone in the family who has a picture of her. Can you help me with that??

She is listed with John Gower and wife Elizabeth in Wright County Missouri on the 1860 census.

I do not have alot on this family. I will send listing of family members as soon as my book is returned in the next couple of days. A family member has borrowed it and will return by Wednesday. Thank you

Hi Peter,
I have found a Rosina Gower who was born in the Workhouse in Stepney London 28 Nov 1872. This could well be the child you are looking for.
She was the daughter of Elizabeth Gower, so obviously mum was unmarried.
I am researching the Gower family, but do not think this is one of mine.
Best of luck with your research

Lynda

I had a little more info on the GOWERS than Bill and we both have been trying to search for more. Oddly enough, Bill managed to come up with a pic of the GOWER'S that was taken late 1800's. The oldest child in the pic is Sarah. I will try and send you the photo online or through email.
Till next time....
Barb

Not sure if I responded when you posted or not.
Fanny and James Gower were definately my gggrandparents in Billington. It wasn't that long ago that I found out they did have so many children. I have tried to locate the sons William, Frederick and George; and Rebecca and Anne Marie, without success.
I will be out of town for four days but would love to hear from you regardless. Don't have too much info about the Gower family.
Hope to talk to you soon.

Anyone out there researching Rosina GOWER, born in London around 1873, a servant in Portsmouth in 1891, who appears to have had 5 illegit children by Samuel LOUCH : Henry George L. GOWER, born 1895 / Reginald Louch GOWER, born 1896 / Stanley Norman L. GOWER, born 1897 / John Wallace GOWER, born 1899 / Leslie Walter L. GOWER, born 1902. All births registered in "Portsea" or "Portsmouth". George & Rosina LOUCH are in the 1901 census as husband & wife, with all their children listed as "LOUCH" -- but they don`t marry or die in later GRO as "LOUCH".
Any info welcome -- especially what became of the GOWER children above.
The GRO lists the 1904 marriage of Rosina GOWER to either Albert Ernest STUBBS or Charles VAUGHAN -- is this Rosina re-marrying?
