Francis Gowin was a bricklayer/contractor (at the time of his death in 1808) of Grove Street, Deptford, Kent, England.
He married Mildred Jesson 15th April 1804 at St John the Martyr Church in Southwark, Surrey. Son James born 1803,daughters Mary George Gowin born 1805 and Amelia Gowin born 1807.
James Gowin married Catherine Eliza Branson on 10th June 1832 at St Martin in the Field Church, London. They left London 13th March 1833 on the "Warrior" for Sydney, N.S.W, Australia travelling as Mr and Mrs James Garrick. The name change to Garrick became permanent around 1841.
