I am a great-grandson of James William Graben. James William Graben was the father of my grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Graben. Thomas "Tommy" J. Graben wed Bertie Lee Pitts 12-1-1912 in Lineville (Clay County) Alabama. Ten children were born to the marital union, including my father, Bobby Jack Graben (9th of the 10), born 5-10-1933, also in Lineville (Clay County) Alabama. In 1937, the family sold farmland in Clay County and moved to Hamilton (Marion County) in northwest Alabama where additional farmland was purchased. My father, Bobby Jack Graben, wed Carolyn Janet Crawford 6-30-1960 soon after my mother's graduation from Florence State Teacher's College (now the University of North Alabama, where my father had also completed his undergraduate degree). I am one of 23 cousins born to nine of the ten children of Thomas Jefferson Graben and Bertie Lee Pitts.I may be contacted at ncgraben@aol.com.

Louis Graben Brothers?

I just visited with some Graben relatives and an 88 year old aunt said that her Dad said the Louis Graben left Germany because he did not want to enter the German army and was about to be inducted. This I had heard. She also stated that he had 8 younger brothers. This I had not heard. Have anyother Grabens heard this?? It would mean that relatives in Germany is a possibility even though to date no one has been able to contact them. Comments????

I am a descendant of James William Graben (James William Graben was father of Thomas Jefferson Graben -Thomas Graben was father of my father, Bobby Jack Graben). My wife, Donnita and our two children, Noah, age 6; Courtney, 21 months, reside in White City, an unincorporated area of Saint Lucie County, on Florida's east coast, 45 miles north of Palm Beach, two hours south of Orlando. Donnita is a media specialist (public school librarian) and I am a state probation officer. We're interested in family history, including the most recent research by Daniel Panther-Yates, also a descendant of Louis Graben, who review of Ellis Island immigration records indicates the Louis Graben we know as ancestor of more than 800 Grabens in the United States today is the same Ludwig Grabe who immigrated to the United States in 1954, having been born in 1829 in Prussia.

Have you ever come across the names of the children of Banhart Graben (1864-1938) and Mary Elizabeth Fetner(1864-1921). They are buried in Mt. Moriah Cem., but supposedly ten of their children are buried in Old Pleasant Cem. near his parents Louis Graben and Mary Kimbrell. There are Alice 1883, Cora 1887, George 1892 and Reppie 1903, on the 1900 and 1910 census. Do you know who the other ten are?

I have not heard of any brothers although I have located 2 other Grabens in the US in the 1860 census that I am wondering about -- in Buffalo, NY a 42 yr old Charles Graben from (can't decipher country), with wife Christine from France and 5 children AND in Cleveland OH a Christopher Graben, 46 yr from Hanover, with wife Fanny and one child. In 1860, Louis was in Liveville Al with his family. Anyone know about these Grabens??

School named after Graben Family Carroll Co. Ga

My husband's GGranddad was Joseph Calvin Garben Jr. He owned and operated a farm that later became known as Ithica Gin. Yesterday the school board in Carroll County, Georgia voted and a school will be built in honor of our family. The school name will be 'Ithica Elementary School at Graben-Garrett Farm' and will open next fall. I have a Aunt that fought hard to get the name. I think it is a great thing for the Garbens. If you would like any more info please email me at carrieveal@thevealfamily.com.

Hi, I'm not Niles, but I am a descendant of Louis Graben. About this book? Is this book the kind of book that can be purchased somehow (like a published book ), or is this book like a family Bible ? My father and I are trying to research our roots, but it's hard to do with me in Florida and my father in Texas. We are kin to Louis Graben on my fathers-fathers-mothers side of the family. Any info would be appreciated. I am totally interested in this book. Thanks. Vickie

Sorry Louis, when I posted the message I made a mistake,
Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. was born in 1807 in North Carolina, and he was listed in the 1830 Census in Butts Co., Georgia. He married Rebecca Ann "Betsy Ann" Tomlinson in Butts Co., Georgia.

His father was George Joseph Hobbs who married Mary Martha Burkhalter, b. NC. George's parents William (H?) Hobbs and Mary, William died without a will in 1800, estate settled in about 1804 in Wake Co., North Carolina., Mary died before the estate was settled. George had 4-6 sisters who were listed in the probate records. I have the records.

Jeannine j9rich@juno.com

William married Samatha McCollum and their children were Joseph Louis and Esther. Samatha died and he married Liza Cockrell. Their children were Thomas, Rythia, Russell, May, Everett, Henry Jay and Ester. My grandfather was Joseph Louis Graben from the marriage of William and Samatha.
I am kin to all the Hobbs, Tomlinson, Culpepper,Dean, Ray, etc in this cemetery. I have a lot of genealogy records on descendants.
Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. 1807-8 born Butts, Co. GA
died: ? possibly unmarked grave
wife: Rebecca Ann "Betsy Ann" Tomlinson Hobbs,
born: Georgia about 1818 unmarked grave in
Pleasant Grove Cem.
I have all the kids names, etc.
Their last child was James McDaniel Hobbs, my ggrandfather
he went to Texas, buried in Osage Cem, Colorado Co.,Texas.

Please tell me WHO IS C. H. HOBBS who has a tombstone?? I was told by a man who took us to cemeteries about 1968, that this was not Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. or
they made a mistake on his tombstone. Other cousins swear that his name was C. Harlan Hobbs.

Sons: Erasmus "Rad", George Thomas, & Charles Newton,Jr. all were in the C.S.A., I have a copy of a letter that Rad wrote home to Clay Co., thanks to Marshall Hobbs.

I definately want a copy of what you have, how much?
Where can I buy the book that has all the Clay Co. Cemeteries in it. How much?
If any of these little churches have old minutes to their church meeting, I want a copy. Maybe the older settlers may find copies written by their ancestors.
Please let me know when this will be available. I will have to print out all of mine, possibly 125 or more pages.

Jeannine Hobbs j9rich@juno.com

Hi all. I end up decending from Joseph Graben (married to Caroline Harkavy), who's parents are Morris GRABEN & Rose FOGEL or VOGEL from Russia. Joseph has a sister Lillian.

I know (according to 1920 census) that Morris & Rose were from Russia. Family lore has it that the name GRABEN changed dramatically through Ellis Island.

2 questions:
1: Who else is related to Lillian?
2: Anyone know what the Russian name of Graben is?
Thanks...
-Namir
