Peter Graber, born abt 1830, wives Freni&Susanna, lived Turner, Dakota Territory in 1874-1880s

I have a copy of “The Children’s Blizzard”, by David Laskin, which I would like to get back in the hands of descendants of one of the families mentioned. The hardcover book, published in 2004, tells of the tragedy of January 13, 1888 in which over a hundred children died in a monstrous blizzard in the Dakota territory. Among the families described is that of Peter Graber, whose children are listed in the book as Joseph (b. abt 1857), Anna (b. abt 1862), Frenzi (b. abt 1864), Peter (b. abt 1871), Johann (b. abt 1873).

In the 1880 census for Turner, Dakota Territory, are listed father Peter (50), 2nd wife Susana (28), children Jacob (19), Frenzis (15), Elisabeth (14), Mary (11), Peter (10), John (7), and Andreas (4), Christian (2) and Jonath (8 mo.). There is a great deal of information about this Graber family, and the two Graber children (Peter and John) who died in the blizzard. Please email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

Ludwig's father was Wilheim Duchene & Katharina Karolina. Some of Ludwig's siblings were Hermann Duchene, and Wilheim Duchene who came to NY in America.
Luise & Ludwig had a son Ludwig Duchene (my father) born Oct 29, 1909, a son Hermann Duchene, and a daughter Else Duchene. They lived in Ludweiler Saarland. Else married a Neufing.
My father came to America in 1928 and Hermann and Else stayed in Saarland.
To Gloria Graber Taber.

I am one of four boys who are the grandsons of Abel Graber, the youngest of the family you mention in your post from 1/23/05. Joseph and Josephine's daughter Margeurite dictated a story of the family from their lives during the war in their native country and their trip and settlement here in the Willamette Valley in Salem, Oregon. The only identifier of the ship that I can find is that it was German. I have many pics including the Graber cemetery in France. It would be great to visit with you on this.

Woody Dukes

Sorry -- I do not see a Jacob Weimar in my database currently. But then I really didn't have much for information on the Weimar side from Rubenach. My John Weimar, b. 1811, was the son of Andreas and Aplonia Bretz Weimar and I only have two other children for them besides John -- Apolonia b. 1820 and Anna b. 1821. Andreas Weimar was the son of Bartholomus Weimar and Anna Gertrudis ?. Bartholomus was from someplace called Nortershausen or Nentershausen in Germany.

Grabers from Russia (Volhynia and Grodno); South America

I am researching my Graber ancestry which I trace back to Cholo in Grodno and Volhynia. The family seems to have moved back and forth between. They may have come through Poland or France before there. If you have similar Graber ancestry please contact me (graberschr@aol.com). My Grabers came to the USA in the early 1900s and settled in Washington and Michigan. My grandfather said he had aunts and uncles that moved to South America.

Hi Lynda.
A lot of people would like to know more about Andreas and Gertraut. I don't think anybody knows anything yet.
I don't think Gertraut is the mother of Andreas oldest two sons. She is listed as the Widow Muss and had two daughters. If you do a time line for those girls and the two oldest Graber boys they can't be blood brothers and sisters. She is the mother of the third son, Philip.

I am descended from Andreas, Andrew and Anna Maria Bitting, and then Ludwig and Elisabeth Yoder.

I tried to contact you off the Board but the message came back. A few of us are really trying hard to locate Andreas but not having much luck so far.
Mary Lou

I have recently started my family search on the Graver side of the family. I am from the Andreas-Gertrant, Andrew-Anna Marie, Henrich-Haas, Andrew-Elizabeth, Andrew - Catherine, Franklin line. After reviewing alot of these forums, and the information contained in them, I have collected alot of information.

At this point I am looking for source information to confirm or determine who were the parents of Andreas Graber/Graver who was married to Gertrant. I know that many of you have been doing this research for far longer than I have, and hope someone can point me in the right direction. I am also loking for any antedoctal information on the above listed lines. Thank you for your future help and for all that you have done in the past which has aided me.
