Re: IL Grabils

Family lore has that 2 brothers came to Missouri but got into a disaggreement and 1 went back to IL. As told it was my Great grandfather Fred and his brother Samual. But I know that they were both born in MO and so was their father Jacob Andrew Grabill. I also know that Jacob's family stayed in MO except for 1 brother, David, who went to Ione, OR. So I wander if the two brothers might be my GGG Grandfather John Thomas Grabill b.1817 of VA and an Unknown brother. We have lots of information from John Thomas down but absolutely nothing befor his marriage in 1840 in Lee Co., VA. All I have to go on are the names of his sons-for what his brother's names may have been. They are Henry H., John W., Jacob Andrew, and David H.

John Thomas came to MO in 1844. Does anyone know of any one who had a brother John b. 1817???
I'm looking for information on his parents/siblings. He was born 1817-we believe in Lee Co. or possibly in Harlan Co., KY and moved to Lee Co., VA at a very young age. He married Sarah "Sally" Shelton Woodward in 1840. They moved to MO in 1844 and settled in Harrison Co., MO in 1849, where they stayed.
They had 5 children: Henry H.( who died as a infancy and I believe is burried in Lee Co.), John W.(born in VA), Jacob Andrew(born in Clay Co., MO-my gg grandfather), David H.(born in MO lived in Ione, OR in 1917), Melinda Elizabeth Rhoda(born & died in MO-Married Floyd Blankenship-who was born in Lee Co., VA.
If you have any information to connect John to a family, I would greatly appreciate it. He may have a different spelling of Grabill than his Father.

It's funny we have info on a lot of the family but do not know when jch died. There are a lot of sites about his' work and we do have a picture or two of him and his' family but that is it. Also cannot connect this Grabill's past Ohio. David was born in VA in 1815 and died in IL. Cannot get the rest connected back.
Feel free to write at my e mail address. If you want I can send info. Also whatever you have turned up would be great.
Betty

William F?. Grabill WWII Army Airborne Paratrooper

Hi. I am looking for him or his family. (Guessing that he would have been born probably between 1908 and 1926)

He was in the Army Airborne during WW2. He at one time served with the 17th Airborne Division/139th Engineer Battalion. He might have been attached to or detached from this Battalion or possibly transferred to the 101st or the 82nd Airborne when the 17th was disbanded in 1945. He would have been in the Engineer Battalion, HQ & S or medical.

I am in the process of writing a book about the Battalion and would like to have him contact me. If he is no longer with us, I'd like the family to touch base with me to give me a summary of his life since the service. This also will be in the book.

I have also succeeded in getting these WW2 Heros to touch base again with their comrades after not seeing each other for almost 60 years. Their reunions have been wonderful.

This project is so important because 17 million personnel files were destroyed in the 1973 file in St. Louis MO. I want to make sure that these men will never be forgotten and will be put in the history books for generations to come!

Thank you for all leads to help me on this tribute to our WW2 Heros.

Sincerely,
Tammy Paynter
tpaynter@centurytel.net
Grabill/ Graybill/ Grable in Ohio

I wonder if anyone on this list has any Grabill/Graybill/Grable ancestors who may also have had connections to Ross County, Ohio? In particular, the Highland County, Ohio Grabills, because it is a neighboring county.

I am researching my 2nd great-grandfather, Elias Grable who was a Civil War vet and raised his family in Franklin twp, Ross County, Ohio. I believe he was also born in Ohio and I am attempting to confirm that his parents are John Grable b. abt 1800 in PA & Sarah V. Schemerhorn b. abt 1806 in VA.

Elias Grable was born in Dec 1825 and married 1st Elizabeth Tidler in Ross Co. and had 2 children, Melissa and John. After Elizabeth's death, he 2nd married Hannah Jane Grable also in Ross Co, and they had 4 children, Jonathan, Margaret, Allenia & Winfield Nibert.

Margaret V. Grable, the daughter, was born in 1872 and after the death of her 1st husband, Marion Nichols, she 2nd married James F. Alshire and moved to near Muncie IN. The other children remained in Ross County. Allenia married Elmer Bennett and Melissa married Ralph Bell.

If you think any of these names sound familiar, please email me to exchange info.
