Re: Martha Kalus Grabinska

Thank you so much for responding. My mother Clara Kalus Read and I were present for the dedication of the street and the small German clubhouse in Schoenwald in 1992. The small house had belonged to my uncle Jan Flak's family. Helga was present for the dedication as were many of the townspeople and their descendants who worked for the Von Studnitz family. My grandfather Vincent Kalus tended the horses and took milk to the dairy. He passed away in the old gut in 1955. My mother evacuated in January 1945. She came to Bavaria where she met my American father who was stationed there on occupation. They married in Bamberg in March of 1949 and returned to the United States in June. I was born the following year in Indiana. Vincent's sister Martha Kalus married Valentin Werner. The Werner name was changed to Grabinski/ska. Martha just died a couple of years ago. I was lucky to have met my closest relatives.

Not just my cousin Helga, but her older sister Nora is also still alive. Our Studnitz family reunion, held every two years, was at the site of our old Schoenwald estate in 2001.

Martha Kalus Grabinska

My great aunt, youngest daughter of Josef and Johanna (Leschik) Kalus and sister of Josefa Kalus, married German soldier Valentin Werner. They were married 4 days when he left for the Russian front and was never heard from again. The name changed to Grabinski/fem.Grabinska after 1945. Martha lived in Schoenwald/Swierzce outside of Rosenberg/Olesno until her death a few years ago. She never remarried, so remained Martha Grabinska. My mother and I traveled to Upper Silesia in 1992 and met with her at the site of the former Gut/Estate of Baron Von Studnitz (dau. Helga still living). Martha was able to furnish my mother with the only surviving photo of her as a child dated about 1932 in Alteneichen/Borosow and her mother who died in 1932 in Rosenberg/Olesno. Does anyone know of this family or have any information on surviving nieces and nephews? Perhaps a woman named Clara, dau. of Josefa?

maternal grandmother

I'm searching for any one who might know of or about Anna Grabinski (married name). She was born in the Urkraine circa 1897 give or take. She immigrated to Toledo, OH and married Mr. Grabinski who passed away circa 1946,47. Anna had 5 living children, Mary, Helen, Eva, George, John. I belive that Anna's maiden name was Beskidnyak, )probably not spelled correctly.) Anna was my maternal grandmother, and I knew her, but know nothing about any possible family on her side other than some immediate first cousins. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone. Thanks
