I actually just read a post on here about the family lineage and who settled in the Buffalo, NY area. Aunt Blanche's family was from Bydgoszcz, which leads me to believe that our family is from the area that yours are from as well. My great-grandfather came to America in the late 1800's and my grandfather was born in 1898. He was the youngest of 6 children in the family. All of his siblings were born in America.

Hope that helps!

Evelyn

I am not sure which Graczyk family we are from. My Great uncle Stephen Graczyk, married Blanche Graczyk and they were from different sides of the family. From what little that I know, we are from a small family and not sure which side of Graczyk that is. If you could better educate me on that, it would be appreciated. I have seen our crest before. It has to Polish Eagle and a snake on it. Not sure if it carries with both Graczyk names or not.

Thanks!

Evelyn

My Grandfathers brother, Walter F.Zalewski married a Mary Gracyk and had 2 sons, Walter F.Zalewski,II and Robert L.Zalewski. I believe Mary died in 1943. Do not know her birth date but gues it should be around 1890-1900.
Any info or family connections would be exciting!
(as an aside - it looks like the "Gracyk" name could be a shortened version of "Gracykowski")

Graczyk's in St. Louis, Missouri

I am looking for some recently-discovered distant relatives in St. Louis, Missouri, and I'm hoping to learn what happened to them!

Here is what I know---

Andrzej Graczyk, born 1828 in Poland, married Jozefa Kijewska, born 1832, on Nov. 24, 1850 in Wszedzien. They had four children that settled in St. Louis, Missouri in the late 19th century/early 20th century:

1. Walenty, born Jan. 12, 1864 in Wszedzien. Married Mary Polka. At least 3 children: Walburga, Joseph, Mary.
2. Rozalia, born Aug. 9, 1866 in Wszedzien. Married Ignacy Kubisiak. At least 7 children: Maksymilian (Max), Stanislaw, Marianna, Pearl, Tecla, John, Sophia.
3. Jan, born 1868 in Poland. Married Zofia Elzbieta Dolla. At least 7 children: Florence, Waleria (Valerie), Anna, Frances, Johanna, Constance, John P.
4. Ignacy, born 1875 in Poland. Never married. Died 1947 in St. Louis.

Any information on these families and their descendants would be greatly appreciated! They're particularly hard to trace since there are so many daughters, but any connections at all, I would be interested in! I'd also be very interested to know if the Joseph and John Graczyk listed above have any male descendants living today with the surname Graczyk.

The family is from Wszedzien, Mogilno, Bydgoszcz (Poznan), Poland. Andrzej's brother Jozef Graczyk, born 1835, had three sons go to Buffalo, NY; one of those sons, Walenty Graczyk, is my great-great-grandfather.

Hi. I don't know if you were aware that Mateusz and Maryanna (nee Kielas) Graczyk were residents of Januszkowo (Gora [Znin] Parish), Poland. I have information on their children Lucja, Adam, and Marcin, who were born 1863-1868.

Would love to hear from you, if you're still getting notification of replies to your RootsWeb posts. I'm responding to a 6 September 2000 post you submitted.

Sincerely,

Dave Wilson

PS: I'm not personally a Graczyk or Kielas descendant, but AM a descendants of Gora, Znin Parish residents of many generations, which is why I have the information I've mentioned. (I've done extensive Gora Parish research.) One of my Lewandowski great-great-uncles was the husband of Agnieszka Kielas from Gora village; at least their eldest child was born in Januszkowo. That couple emigrated to America and settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where they raised their family.

Re: Graczyk Family Buffalo, NY

Hi Laura! I have some new information bringing our GRACZYK family back to a small village called Wszedzien, which is in the province of Bydgoszcz in Poland. It was formerly a part of the "Posen/Poznan" province, which was very large at one time, but since has broken up.

I am waiting on some records to confirm this... but, I am confident in the below.

Norman Francis was your grandfather
His father was Stephen Graczyk, born 1908 in Buffalo
His father was Walenty Graczyk, born 1865 in Wszedzien
His father was Jozef Graczyk, born 1835 in Wszedzien
His father was Bartlomiej Graczyk, born 1785 in Wszedzien
His father was Antoni Graczyk, born about 1757

I am looking for more on Antoni at this point in time, but I am waiting on more records. His marriage/death records may provide us with his parents names or where/when he was born. I don't think he was born in Wszedzien. I checked Wszedzien baptism records around 1757 and couldn't find his baptism. I did find the baptism of his wife, Ewa Skaza, though... She was born March 9, 1762 and had a twin sister named Franciszka.

The wives?
Your great-grandfather Stephen's wife was Frances Iglinska.
His father Walenty's wife was Marianna Piasecka.
His father Jozef's wife was Marianna Maciejewska.
His father Bartlomiej's wife was Michalina Przybylska.
His father Antoni's wife was, like I said, Ewa Skaza.

Cool, huh?
I don't have parents names for most of the wives yet...
Frances Iglinska was the daughter of Stanislaw Iglinski and Stanislawa Koscielniak.
Ewa Skaza was the daughter of Sebastian and Franciszka Skaza.
I don't know about the others just yet.

I will get back to you in a month or so when I will be able to access more records.

My great grandmother Martha Kowalski/Louks Died in 1916 at the age of 31her kids were adopted by the Miotke's. Margaret's (my grandmother) Birth certificate lists her maiden name as Koss, but under Margarets marriage certificate it lists it as Kowalski. So I have nothing concrete in which direction to go. From what I understand Martha's husband Arthur Louks family did not speak of the marriage or kids after she died. They had three children total the boys names were Leonard and George. I have the buriel record and John and Mary Hinka and Frank Hintzke were buried shortly after Martha in the same family plot.

i have a copy of the family crest if you'd like i would e-mail it to you. The coat has a dolphine in the top and a polish falcon on the bottom half of the shield. It was very difficult to locate this because the Nazis' destroyed the hall of records and all the family crests they could locate in an attempt to destroy the Polish people. The older people in my family id'd the crest as the correct one but several people in my family say that there should be two dolphines on top instead of one. The falcon on the lower half indicates we are of noble if not royal heritage. hope I can help. Bob

I have been looking online for the whole weekend and cannot seem to find anything i can even LOOK at for free. Since when did they start charging for knowledge?

Re: Graczyk Family Rochester, New York

Hi, Just happened to be looking through the Graczyk records on the intranet today. My Grandfather was Charles Graczyk who married Teckla Czapla in 1907. If my memory serves me correctly, Kate Lucas is my grandfather's sister. I will check with my 90 year old mother. Charles and Teckla had 8 children--three of which are still living in the Rochester area--ages 90, 80 and 78 respectively. Let me know if you have other information on the rest of Charles' brothers and sisters. Also Do you have any information on Mary Ann Graczyk who would be the wife of Martin Graczyk (Charles' parents)? My records with St. Stanislaus Church are sketchy and I have found two Mary Ann Graczyk's who died in their 30's possibly following childbirth. I would be very interested in any information you could share. Thanks, Donna

My wife's grandmother Katherine Lucas' maiden name was Graczyk. She married Franciscum (Frank) Lucas, also Polish, and they lived all of their married life in Rochester, NY on Resolute Street. He died in 1955 and she in 1958.

It may be possible she was your grandfather's sister.

Hoping this information is helpful to you.

Re: Graczyk, Mary in Bridgeport area Chicago IL

I know this is not the same Mary Graczyk but here is my information (there may be a common ancestor a generation or two back):

My Great Great Grandfather Martin Konieczka (b. 1841) married a woman (his second marriage) named Mary Graczyk ( b. 1841) on November 25, 1892 at St. Joseph's Church - Chicago, IL. You'll note that they got married at 51 years of age. Martin was a street cleaner for the City of Chicago. Their marriage information in the archives of the church lists Mary's parents as Joseph Graczyk and Anna Prybyska. The 1910 US Census indicates that Mary had given birth to 6 children but that only two were still living. I do not know if she had those children with Martin or a previous marriage. Given the fact that they got married much later in life, my guess is that they children may have been from another marriage but I don't know for sure. If any of this sounds familiar please email me.

I am the granddaughter of Charles (Stanislaus) and Teckla Czapla Graczyk from Rochester, New York. I am interested in gaining more information about the Rochester Graczyk's. As best as I can tell, my grandfather came to the United States as a child from Poland/Prussia in the late 1890's and married my grandmother in 1907 in Rochester, NY. They lived in Rochester all their married life and died here in the 1960's If you can provide any information, it would be greatly appreciated.
