Thomas Grainger died Valparaiso Chile 1861
Looking for information on Irishman Thomas Grainger who died in Valparaiso Chile on 12 May 1861. His is son of John Grainger and Mary Long from Co. Cork Ireland, born 10 Nov 1804.
His brother John was a convict sentenced to life in Australia in 1822. Thomas was unmarried and no children. He left a sum of money to his mother in Ireland.
I think Thomas was on his way back to Ireland from Australia when he died in Chile. I am not sure. We have also heard through family rumours he may have been a mercenary.
Looking for any records, shipping, death records and also where he might be buried. There has been a suggestion foreigners were buried in Cerro Panteon Cemetary in Valparaiso.....?
Any help appreciated.
Regards,
Marina.
