Hi
Great to hear back from you. I don't have too much info on this line of the family. Could you possibly email or snail mail me the info that you have on this line of the family? I would greatly appreciate this. Where you do live now? I would love to hear from you and would try and help with anything you need about finding info. I have been doing this for about 2 years now... and it is very time consuming to say the least. Maybe we could email each other or exchange phone numbers? Let me know how you feel about that?

Sharon

Hi Debbie:
Yes, I do have a match with Mathew Wachal. When did he die? Is it Jan 11, 1946? His parents are George and Katie. His siblings are George Jr., Katherine, and John? John came from an area called Komorowka, Brody District, Galacia, Austria. They arrived via Ellis Island on the
SS Sempione on June 26, 1899.

Cindy, my mother's parents were Joseph and Anna (Grall) Kohlbeck. My grandmother grew up near Manitowoc, and I understand that my grandfather's family originally settled there too, but moved to the Marshfield area in the latter part of the 1800s. I don't know much about the Kohlbecks who stayed in Manitowoc County.

I'm not certain whether I should be writing to you or to Susan Hilton! My great-grandfather was Anton Grall. He apparently lived in Manitowoc County (Whitelaw), Wisconsin. Every attempt to delve farther back has gone nowhere. However, I did receive a copy of an obituary of a Barbara Gintner whose maiden name was Grall and her birth date coincides very closely with my great-grandfather's. I wondering whether they were siblings. What I found most interesting about her obituary was that she was born Kral in Germany and the name changed after they settled in the United States. I remember my mother's cousin's husband telling me many years ago that the family name had changed spellings at one time or another and this could be it.

I'm not sure whether there's any connection to Christian Freidrich Grall. It certainly would be a breakthrough if there is!

Ed Wenzel
drawdew@charter.net

The LDS genealogy site lists KunDigunda Grall has being born in Saginaw, MI 04/05/1833 - another newspaper article lists her as Kunigunda Grall and COMING to Saginaw from Schwarzach, Germany. I'm not sure which is correct but believe the newspaper article to be. If you have any information on this family, I would like to hear from you.

Joan,

My grandmother, Ida Grall, was the sister of Betty Grall's father. Did Betty give you any information about the Grall family? I can provide some, including some that Betty came up with. I'm new at geneology and this is my first time checking this site.

Kundigunda died 05/22/1874 & is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery. Both Kundigunda & Johann's gravestones are written in German.

Ed, My father's cousin and her dh did a ton of geneology on the Grall line, specifically Christian Freidrich Grall who came here from Germany. My dad tells me that after Christian came to the US, he had sons or brothers that came to the US. So there could be some relationship there.
Here's MY problem... I'm in OK and the cousin is in WA. Her dh has severe parkinson's and she has all the info, pictures, news articles, etc in notebooks and boxes and swears she has no one to help her get it together, even to send me copies so I can compile it.
I am in the process of sending her a letter and finding out if I fly up there, if she will allow me to copy or compile it there. I have cousins that I've been told have a Grall family bible. Please email me at jets@mmcable.com so I can add you to my address book. Then when I get the info I'll let you know!
GOOD TO HERE FROM YOU!

Well , I havent been to this website in a while, been busy with kids starting school, working midnite shift and helping out with my mother who has alzheimer's.
I am going to get a tape recorder and several tapes for my Dad (Leonard Grall) to start taping all the stories and names, etc that he keeps talking about. He has stories that his grandfather told him about uncles that came from Germany and I can't keep all that in my head right now! I am going to have dad just record a lot of that info and then I can always transcribe it and keep it on a computer disc.
We've all got to remember to save what we know for our great grandchildren who might want to know about us someday.

Further research proves me wrong on my previous posting. Peter Joseph Grall had only one sister, Bernice Grall. His father was Joseph Grall born in Detroit Mich about 1859, mother Elizabeth who was from England. She immagrated in 1869.
Josephs father was from Germany and his mother from France
Joseph had a brother Sebastion also from Detroit. This is not proven but is most probable.

If I find out anything further, I'll pass it along. It would be fun to find a new relative. My grandfather and most of the males in our side were astute business men. What about your side? If you have any exciting information, you can reach me at gene@napanet.net

My Grandfather was Peter Joseph Grall born in Detroit on November 23, 1886.
Charles Bowles [c1790-c1855], Huntsman to the Ballymacad Hounds from near Oldcastle, Co. Meath.

One of my great great great grandfathers, Charles Bowles lived on the Meath/Westmeath/Cavan county borders and was known as Old Charley Bowles. There is a lovely engraving of him in A History of the Westmeath Hunt by Gerald Dease. This Protestant man's daughter Margaret Bowles [c1813-1894] married Roman Catholic Michael Hennessy [1810-1877] in the early 1840s and oral tradition has it that he disowned her for marrying a papist!

Who was Mrs. Charley Bowles? Where did they marry? How many other children did they have? How were these Bowles connected to a family of Bowles in Virginia, Co. Cavan? Are there descendants out there in cyberspace?! Any clues?

Grall/Graal originating in parish of Moylagh, Co.Meath, Ireland.

Any information about descendants of Irish Graal/Gralls out there in cyberspace? Not connected to Germany or France. In the parish of Moylagh, Co. Meath the surname seems to be a corruption of the Irish form of Fitzgerald: MacGerailt. The parish registers for Oldcastle, Co. Meath record the name as Geral, Gerral or Gerrall till about 1820, when suddenly all my ancestors appear as Fitzgerald. From about 1870 the name is recorded as either Grall or Graal. Three of my grandfather Thomas Graal's siblings - John, Mary [Grall] Leddy and Rose [Grall] Masterson - emigrated to Newark, New Jersey & I've been corresponding with a descendant of Rose who lives in Summit, NJ. Trying to trace 2 of Mary [Grall] Leddy's 4 children: Rose Leddy [c1885 -?] & Lille Leddy [1890 - ]. Also, anyone with information about a 4th sibling of my grandfather, Patrick Graal/Grall [1850-1906]? He ended up in New Haven, Connecticut but died on the passage back to Ireland. His Letters of Administration record him as a widower. Any clues?
