Hello, I just came across your email to Gerrit Grannemann and wanted to know if this is still a current email. My grandfather was Christian Friedrich Grannemann, born March 07, 1878 at Hille #77. He was the brother of your Carl Friedrich (August) Granneman. I would be pleased to hear from you at mthrnature2001@yahoo.com
ER

I am looking for information on Pauline Grannemann (probably born in the 1870s), married to Peter Kumpf in St. Louis, MO. One of their children, Mary Mae Kumpf, married Edward Gilbert (and later married Henry Tiedemann). One of Mary and Edward's children was my grandfather. Family legend is that Pauline Grannemann left France for the United States because she was engaged to a man she did not want to marry. I have no idea whether this is true or whether she was from France. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Heidi Abegg

Mary Granneman b1865/half brother Fred Hoffman(Hoffmeyer?)

My great-grandmother, Mary (Marie?) Granneman came to America in 1887 from Germany by way of England. Her half brother, Fred Hoffman(Hoffmeyer?) traveled with her. He apparently was trying to avoid the war in Germany at that time. The area of Germany that they are supposedly tied to is the province of Hanover.
Mary was born around 1865. When her father died, her mother remarried a man by the name of Hoffman (Hoffmeyer?)
Mary became a naturalized citizen in 1892 when she married my great-grandfather William M. Kirtland. They lived out their years in Schenectady NY and are buried there at Vale cemetery. Fred is apparently buried at Stone Arabia NY.
If anyone is a possible link,.......... e-mail to:
L_L_Schermerhorn@yahoo.com OR the_tinkertoy@yahoo.com

I too have a Grannemann in my family history that I can find nothing on. Conrad Henry Grannemann was born July 28,1840 at Nottingham Germany. He married twice, having two children from his first wilfe, Dena and Henry [whom I have nothing on]. After his first wife died he married Charlotte Scheer who was born April 15, 1854 and died May 27, 1920. To this union were born 8 children, William, Emma, Ida [my ggrandmother], Augusta, Helen, Amanda, Mathilda and Ella. Mr. Grannemann was engaged in farming near the Stone Church and died Aug. 31, 1909. Stone Church is between New Haven and Gerald MO in Franklin county. I don't know if the first wife came from Germany or where the two children went because I have no dates on them or marriages. I have no info on Dena and Henry Grannemann or their mother, Conrads' first wife. The Ida in the obit is my ggrandmother and she died when my grandmother was 12 years old. My grandmother did not have any info on the Grannemann family and didn't talk about her own siblings (the family was disfunctional after the death of the mother and the family was split up).
Hallo Rick, I had some information from the 'other' Granneman family, booked a hotel in Hille and had the chance to look in the birth- and weddingbooks of the church. Also found and spoke with very remote cousins there. I think you will have to know the exact German christian names of your gggfather first. Preferably with birth date; when married in Germany, wedding date etc. Best regards, Wim

Thanks for the information. Your second email made it through. I travel to Germany periodically, and may investigate Hille area if I have more information. Typically, what are the best approaches to take in that region--are there census data, or city records or birth/death records?
Hallo Rick, I tried to answer you before, but that did apparently not work out, so this is my second attemp. I don't think your gggfather came from our family and I also doubt if he originates from the other Dutch Granneman family. As far as I know there are two major Granneman families in Holland. They descend from two ancesters who both originate from Hille, Germany and came to Holland in the 1800 - 1830 period
(I visited in Hille the farm where my ancester lived and did some research in the church there). Many Germans came to work in - at that time - relatively rich Holland and many stayed there. Your gggfathers name Fredrick was possibly translated from the German Friedrich. It was very common when someone emigrated that the given name was translated into the language of the new country. The name Heinrich was in our family translated from German into the Dutch word Hendrik. In Dutch the name Fredrick would be Frederik. Your best chance would be to investigate further around Hille. Thats were most of our Grannemans apparently come from.
Best regard and good luck! Wim
An interesting coincidence--my sister is named Jane Granneman. I am trying to trace my heritage back to Germany/Holland. I am stuck at my gg grandfather, Fredrick Granneman who probably emigrated to US around 1830-1850. His son Christian was born in 1855 in Ft Wayne, Indiana. By any chance has your research found any Frederich/Friedrich/Fredrick Granneman/Grannemann that might fit this (birth around 1800-1830)?
Best Regards,

hi everyone!
Wow.. Well, I am a Grannemann from Hille (my father is born there and ew still have a house there). I looked on a german telephone-# CD some time ago and every second Grannemann there is situated in or close to Hille, so it seems all Grannemanns around the world come from there ;)
My grandfather's name was Hermann Grannemann, from Hille. Maybe I can find out more about my family soon, maybe here are still some unknown relatives.. ;)

Hallo Steven, My ancester, Ernst Heinrich August Grannemann, originated from Hille, Germany and came to Holland. He married a widow, Niesje van Kampen in 1833. He signed with Grannemann but in the wedding document it simply stated Granneman. I estimate there are over a 100 Grannemans now in Holland, most of them originating from two ancesters from Hille, Germany. The father of Ernst was Johann Cordt Grannemann, born in 1784 and his grandfather Jonann Heinrich Grannemann, born in 1755. best regards Wim

Hi I am looking to find the history of the Granneman name. My maiden name is Granneman and I can trace my history to a Great-Great Grandmother Elizabeth Granneman who is buried in a small cemetary close to Gilliam MO. I do not know if Granneman was Eliza's maiden name or married name. All the family history I have centers around mid-mo. I am looking to find were Eliza came from and who her son, Oscar, father was. Thanks for any help.

Hi my name is Mindy Granneman Monnig I am just beginning my quest on my family history. I don't know of any relatives from IN but my history of the Granneman's is brief. I can trace my history to a Great-Grandfather and his mother but I have no records of his father. I am also wondering if Granneman was his mother's or father's name. I live in MO and all of my known history is in MO. I don't think Granneman is a popular name so am interested in possible contacts. Good luck with you search. Mindy

August Grannemann was my grandfather. He might have been a coal miner in his younger days, but he was an engineer for the Southern Pacific for over 40 years. He married Martha after the divorce from my grandmother, Bessie. He died in Chester, Il. in 1954. I would love to hear from you and learn more about Bessie. I did not even know her maiden name. I just happened on your message and I was so excited to read it. Hope to hear from you.
Sandra Grannemann Grantham
I am seeking any information about Margaretha Granneman, born about 1775 in Leiden. She married Arie Wassenaar in 1800 in Voorhout and they had three children. After Arie's death, she married Matthijs van Gulde. Margaretha died in Voorhout in 1830. I am interested in learning more about her, especially the names of her parents and/or siblings.
