I found this while chasing my Smith family
"John Grant Smith died in 1863. His mother, Nellie Grant, was a relative of President U. S. Grant. John G. Smith took an active interest in General Grant's successes during the war, although over a hundred years old"
This comes from a book titled
"History of Fentress County, Tennessee: The Old Home of Mark Twain's Ancestors "
by Hogue, Albert Ross
The man I believe discussed here is John Smith was living with John Slaven family in 1860 and age as 103 or 105 yrs old He was born in VA. The near neighbors were Smith, Hill, Slaven, and Blevins. Any help appreciated
