Patricia Belle Grant
WEST MALLING, KENT: Patricia Belle "Patty Belle" Grant, formerly of Zanesville, Ohio, died June 8, 2014, very peacefully, at the Maidstone Hospital in Maidstone, England, surrounded by her surviving daughters, Candida and Jennifer, and her granddaughter Tamar.
She was born on the 7th of November, 1922, in Zanesville, Ohio (Muskingum County) a daughter of the late Frederic James Grant Jr. and Ethel Elizabeth Weller Grant Curphey.
She grew up in Zanesville, Ohio spending time also in California. She graduated from The Douglas School in Pebble Beach, California and attended Smith College in Massachusetts.
In 1941, she married Donnan Call Jeffers in Zanesville, Ohio. They had two daughters, Candida and Judith
She divorced and married William Gilger in 1947 in Greenup, Kentucky and had a third daughter, Jennifer.
In about 1950, she and her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she attended the University Of Cincinnati School Of Architecture, graduating in 1958.
Patty divorced William in 1956 and after finishing her training, took a job with the United States Navy as a civilian architect and moved to London, England with her daughters.
She remained in England for the rest of her life working as an architect, living first in London and later in West Malling, Kent.
Surviving locally are a brother Frederic Grant III of Zanesville; and a step-son William H. Gilger of Zanesville.
