My book is delayed because of my husband's health. He has
just turned 90 and spent his birthday in the hospital. I hope
to be able to finish it soon and when I do, I will announce it on
possibly GenForum under Greave or Graves (there is no Grave). If you have a specific question I will try to answer it.

Re: Greave/Grave - Samuel Battin

In reply to your query on a Mary Greave that married Samuel Battin as his first wife. I have received this query before and I
do not believe this Mary came from our Greave family.
John Greave married Jane Chandler and they did have a daughter, Mary, b 2nd month, 27, 1740 (old style) but she
married Conner Dowd I and is listed in the Hinshaw Quaker
book I, Cane Creek, as being disowned 1-7-1775 for marrying out of unity. The David Greave you mention that married 1st a Rachel Battin was the son of Jonathan Greave & Sarah Chandler. Jonathan also had a Mary but I have found that she married a Howell. It was common practice back in those
days to name a child after a well respected Quaker minister
which David was. He never had any children. His second wife, Ruth Cadwallader, was also a minister.
Suggest you go to an LDS church and order Newark, Kennett,
Centre, monthly meeting records, tape #389399, on microfilm.
I am very much interested in finding the first wife of Samuel Battin whom I believe was Mary Greave. She was not the sister of his brother-in-law David Greave. One of Samuel's daughters names a son David Greave, a son Samuel Battin and a daughter Mary Greave. I believe she was the daughter of John Greave and Mary Chandler but can find nothing on this Mary. Can you help?
