No - no relation to your 'Grealis'. Your 'Grealis' should be on the Irish 1901 census (free online) in the Murrisk area. It is approximately 30+ miles from Achill.

I had a Mary Grealis living with us in Chicago. She would have been born around 1900 in Mayo, she told us that she lived in Murrisk and went to school in Lecanvey, or the other way around. She had no children and never married. We called her Auntie Mary, though some of us referred to her as Bama-Mary-Moorey. Why? Who knows.

So sorry to hear about the passing Eileen and Bridie. Our prayers are with them and their families. They were both lovely women and I am pleased I had the opportunity to speak with both 10 years ago. The family history on the descendants of Patrick Grealis and Elizabeth Gavin was expanded greatly with their contributions. Please email me at williammurphyiv@hotmail.com and I will send you the family history. It would be great if we can refresh it prior to Christmas and recirculate it to everyone.

All the best,
Cousin William

Hi...

my grandma is Eileen Larkin (nee Grealis) who was mentioned a few posts down. Just passing on some info having stumbled upon this page... sadly she passed away this year (2012). Her sister Bridie died a few years earlier and so there are no Grealis' left in Killeenacoff.

Jeanne,

I am also related to the Grealis family. My great-grandmother was a Margaret Grealis who married John O'Malley in Cleveland, Ohio. She was originally from the township of Ballycroy in County Mayo, Ireland. According to the Cleveland Necrology File Margaret & Pater were siblings. My Father and I went to Ireland in 2010 but didn't have time to get copies of Margaret's birth record but did she the parish church and even met a Grealis (no sure if we are related).

Mike

Hello,
My great grandmother was Mary Catherine O;Malley Jerome; her sister was Maria Grelis. The 1880 Clinton Irish Census has both of them living at 71 Pearl St, Clinton MA w/their mother as head of household. Mother's name was Mary Collins O'Malley. She and Patrick O'Malley were married in Louisburgh area County Mayo Ireland. Patrick was not mentioned in the census.

Also listed as living in the house was the two children of Maria Grelis, Walter then 4yo and Mary then 2yo. Cousins with the last name Collins were there as was my great grandfather William Mason Jerome and their 3 month old son Henry who died at 3months. My grandfather, William Joseph Jerome and his sister Mary Elizabeth "Minnie" were born a bit later. Catie Jerome, my great grandmother was buried in the Grelis lot in St.John's cemetery in Clinton. I would like to place a small plaque on the ground there in remembrance. My great grandfather died when my grandfather was 3. He was buried in the old cemetery which was destroyed when they built the quarries in Clinton.

I sincerely hope this information finds you and that we might fit together some of our family histoy. Please e-mail me at lindje@comcast.net
Blessings to you-
Joanne
Darby Grealis from Loughrea, Galway

I'm looking for descendants of Darby (aka Dermott) Grealis from Loughrea, Galway, Ireland. He was father to my great grandmother Teresa Grealis who married Thomas Hannon from the neighboring town of Portumna.

Following Darby's death in 1878, his wife Elizabeth (aka Eliza) Hanlon and their son Joseph Grealis emmigrated to New York City in 1880.

It's possible Joseph took in my grandmother Mary Hannon, the daughter of Thomas and Teresa, after she immigrated to New York about 1892 at age 16.

I'm looking for any tidbits about the Grealis family, especially the line that settled in Manhattan, New York.

Michael Allen

Hello, Myra was the half-sister of my grandmother Annie Dignan. Myra's mother was Mary Elizabeth Harrington and her father was Joseph Buckley. Myra was born in Birmingham, England in July 1906. She had a sister called Maud Elizabeth (my Auntie Liz) who was born in 1909. Myra's mother left Joseph and went to live with another man called Ernest Joseph Dignan and had a further 6 children with him.

Myra emigrated from England and married William Grealis in 1926 in Ontario. I have only just discovered this information and would love to make contact with you. Our family lost contact with her in the 1930's.

There are a number of descendants living in Birmingham England, and myself in Australia.
I guess we are cousins.
Cool.
I have talked to Siobhan Grealis, but then I dont think she was impressed about my grandmother and her grandfather, she wouldnt talk to me again.
I also talked to Bill Grealis (the third I think)..who lives in Toronto, both of these were about 10 years ago.
I just keep checking the boards looking. My mom wants to know more about her family too. As do I.
foxcindyca@yahoo.com...

Bill Grealis was my grandfather who unfortuantly had an affair with my grandmother, resulting in my mother.
I realize that this information would be troubling as Alice Hills is your releative, but still that was a long time ago and it still makes me a grealis..
I do have pictures..

Timothy Grealis / Graylis 168x-1743 Dorchester Co MD

Have been collecting information for over 40 years on the Descendants of Timothy Grelis/Grealis/Graylis who died in Dorchester County MD in 1743. The closest I have found is that he came to MD from PA with a group of Black Irish in the early 1700's. Left a will in 1743 naming wife Elizabeth and Children Elizabeth Wale, Mary Bishop, Owen Graylis, Timothy Graylis and Sarah Graylis. Some of the family has been traced to North Caroline and the rest remained in Dorchester/Caroline Co MD. I am descended in the line of Jesse Grayless the son of Joseph Pearson and Mary Graylis. All descendants in this line now use the Grayess or Gradeless spelling of the name.
--------------
I have been gathering and sharing information on the Grelis/Grealis/Grealish family that have arrived later from Ireland.
-----------
Have a record of Francis Grelis in PA earlier than Timothy.
-----
http://www.execpc.com/~drg
DrG@execpc.com Donald Gradeless

Andrew Grealis/grelis/grellis. Born 1836 Mayo, Ireland. Totally stuck with researching backwards for Andrew Grellis who emigrated to Scotland. I'm thinking that his name was spelt a different way on records in Ireland and would apprieciate any help with anything that might remotely trace his family backwards. He had a brother called Michael and parents called Michael and Mary Scanlon.
Thanks

Eddy,

I need some clarification. There are so many Patrick Grealis's in the family tree. In your message you mention that Patrick Grealis is your grandfather's brother. Do you know who this Patrick Grealis was married to?

My second great granfather was Patrick Grealis who was married to Bridget Bradley. I also suspect that this same Patrick had a father named Pat Grealis, but have been unable to find proof of this yet. I can be reached directly at (216) 965-9407 or at rgrealis@yahoo.com. Any info you have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Robert F. Grealis, Jr.

Seeking information on Patrick Grealis who married Mary Geraghty and lived in Kinknock, Kilgeever, County Mayo, Ireland. Had at least three children: Anne (Annie), Mary and a child who died in a tragic accident. Anne and Mary (my grandmother) emmigrated to the US in the 1890s. Anne married and lived in MA. Mary married Edward DeVarney and settled in St. Albans, VT.

I believe that Anne and Mary are related to John and Bridget Grealis. John and Bridget had at least eight children: Rose, John, Annie, Kate, Margaret, William, Lenora and Hannah (Helen).

John (the father) was born in JUN 1845 and Bridget (his wife) was born in JAN 1859, both in Ireland. John came to the US in 1881 and Bridget in 1873. The family lived on Woodlawn St. in Clinton, MA from 1900 to the mid 1920s.

Any information you can provide on John's possible relationship to Patrick will be greatly appreciated.

Bernie DeVarney
