You seem to have the same problem as the rest of us. John was married to Ann Foard or Ford, in 1786.
HIs father William was married to Elizabeth Whitmore, 1760 in Burbage, Leic.,England. Good luck if you can get back beyond that date.

Hello Cousin William,
Ambrose Greenwell is my Gt. Grandpa's Francis Greenwell's 1859, father. Mother was Elizebetha Hill. I have been looking for other family members for a long time. I, too was born in 1945!
The summer of 2008 I was in Ogden and Wast Weber, Utah. There I took the time to look at the family grave sites in Ogden Cemetary. It was the frist time I had been there. I was looking for baby Ray Greenwell.
My father was Ray J. Greenwell born in LA 1919 and died in Rancho Mirage, Calif. 1987. I have a brother Thomas Archie Greenwell. He was born in 1947. We live just down the block from each other. We have been thinking of going to England for years. We have been trying to get pass William Greenwell born in 1739 in Aston Flamville Leicaster. Not only that, but those stories that lead to the Greenwells living in Ireland. There is 500 years of straight male desent. Never had fround the proof. Family stories are interesting. Take care Teine Greenwelll Brown,

I just let my 11 year old subscription end in March because we are traveling in the RV until October-November. My e-mail is flakeygang@aol.com
I can not view your site without a subscription. I would love to see it because my line up in Allegany, Washington County and into WV and PA is pretty extensive. I feel like I am related to everyone who lives there. LOL
When you e-mail me I will send you all I have on the Greenwell side. I am stumped at Henry of C. If you also are using the Family Tree Maker Software it will include all the census images and what few photos I have.

Hi John,
Just read your message posted years ago as I have recently discovered a GREENWELL married into my McDONALD family, albeit briefly, in Sydney Mines, CB. The lady in question is Elizabeth Jane GREENWELL, daughter of Isaac GREENWELL and Mary BARKESS. Elizabeth Jane married Roderick McDONALD in 1884 in Sydney Mines but family lore is that mother didn't approve and the marriage was annulled. Elizabeth Jane then went on to marry Gustaf Ferdinand FRIBERG in 1891 in Massachusetts and had a number of children. Do you have any information on this GREENWELL family ? Thanks, Lynne also in Victoria, BC !!

My great grandfather, Ambrose Greenwell, emigrated from England to Wilmington, Delaware late in the 19th century. My grandfather, Charles Harry was born in Wilmington around 1900. My father, William was born in Wilmington in 1923 and I, William, was born in Wilmington in 1945. My sister, Barbara, has done some brief research trying to find the right line of our relatives. I would to hear from you if you think there is a link. My sister has been to England several times and has attempted to trace our ancestry during her trips.

I also have a Greenwell book that was researched by a Greenwell and may be able to help with the connections. My line ended up in Kentucky.
Theresa (Greenwell) Estes

My Greenwells were also in St. Mary's in the 1600's. They were Catholics, and went on to Ky. because of their religion. Don't think they were Afro-Am., tho.
Emma was my GGrandmother not Grandmother. Just got Emma's death date a few minutes ago. Anyway, did some checking and I can't find a connection right now. Emma's mother Rose Greenwell b 1862 looks like was born in Union County, KY. Rose's father was William Henry b 1839; Her mother Catherine {Kate} Buckman b 1835. William Henry's mother was named Mary. Rose's brothers and sisters were: Charles; Julia; and Annie. Got this from 1880 census. Possibly your William R. is a Uncle to Rose? Looked at the Head line some more found a James Head married in Bullit County. James would be Emma's GGrandfather? Don't see a connection right now? Sorry

Jane Greenwell

I`m having trouble tracing my tree back via Jane Greenwell who married Fred Liversidge and went to live in Sheffield and Rotherham. On the 1901 census she puts her birth place as Ashworth Durham. She was born around 1858. I also found them on the 1891 census, but her place of birth was unreadable. I thought I found her on the 1861 and 1871 censuses for Usworth,Durham, but this Jane Greenwell was married to George Jackson in the 1881 census and still living with her parents( although I haven`t been able to trace her in any subsequent censuses).

She had her first child with Fred in 1886 and her second in 1889.

I`m wondering if I have got the right Jane Greenwell and she absconded from her marriage and later married Fred( although I haven`t been able to find any record of their marriage either!)

Very complicated!

Any ideas welcome.

John Coleman Greenwell

He was born 1833 in KY. I found him in 1850 cencus living with Elizabeth Thompson age 70 & son John C. thompson 40. Think his father may be Arnold John Greenwell or Arnold John Greenwell Jr. Elizabeth, I think, was Arnold no 1's mo-in-law. Thank you. Margaret

Do you have a John Coly"Cohly"Greenwell connected with your info. I found in Ancestry that possibly John was a son of Lewis Washington Greenwell and that Arnold was Lewis' fr. but the dates don't match with what I have and the John of Lewis had the middle inital R. John Died in Martin Co., Indiana. He came from KY with his wife Frances (Queen) to the Miles Settlement. Thank You, Margaret

Ancestry says Lewis Washington Greenwell was my gr grfa's father. I cannot confirm this. My Gr grpa's name was John Coly (Coley,Choly) Geenwell, Marr twice 1st Frances Queen 2nd Ellen (Kidwell) Widow of Wilford Miles. The Mile migrated to IN in what was then known as Keck's Ch. P now Bramble, IN in Martin Co.The only John I found was John Roseman Greenwell B; 1832 & my John was b: 1833 in KY & D. 1887 in Bramble, IN. Thank you, Margaret
