Kimberley

I have had a quick look at some of the Cornish data bases and come up with the probability that John GREET's parents were Henry & Eliza GREET. Another fact that has come to light is that Mary Ann's maiden name was COAD. I don't know if you have already obtained a copy of their marriage certificate but they were married within the Liskeard Registration District of Cornwall.

If you would like to send me your e-mail address I will forward the details, including census returns etc, that I have collected.

Best Wishes

Frank Grigg
Cornwall

Thank you very much for the informatin. It may serve useful.
My Great-Great Grandfather was John Kay Greet Born 17 April 1832, in England. And his Wife Mary Ann Cone Born 5 Jun 1832 in England. They family bible says they were married on 2 Aug 1856. And that John died on 12 Dec 1894, and Mary died 21 Jan 1912.
That is as far back as the bible goes, I was trying to find out who John Kay Greet's parents were.
Mary's parents were Samuel Cone and Charlotle Herron

I have no connection with the GREET family but I did carry out research on them prior to publishing a Cornish local history book - "Tregony Happenings" in 2004. In particular I was interested in two GREET brothers:
1. Joseph Truscott GREET [born Tregony 1847 & died 1923]. He was a photographer.
2. Caleb GREET [born Gwennap, Cornwall 1860 & died in 1915 [killed in action WW1].

Both were the sons of Luke GREET [born Veryan abt 1817] and his wife Ann [nee TRUSCOTT - born Tregony abt 1818].

I have a web-site at www.tregoneyhistory.co.uk If anyone would like any of the information that I have collected, please give me a shout. I can be contacted via the web-site or at frgrigg@freenetname.co.uk

Regards
Frank Grigg
Cornwall

HI Michelle drom Australia, it looks like we may be related.
There are three Greet lines those of the Greets of St Just in Roseland,Cornwall, the Greets of Veryan,Cornwall and the Greets of Philleigh,Cornwall and the family of Grace Elgar Whitford.
My records show that Caleb was one of the children of Grace Whitford and Joshua Greet. Caleb was born abt 1869 and died in abt 1916 which is in the WW1 period.
I would have to check further, but if this is correct his war record may be able to sshow more.
Suffice to say that some of the Greets migrated to Queensland,Australia and settled in the Rosewood and Lanefield district.I hope I can tell you a bit more soon
You can contact me direct cliffg@iimetro.com.au if you wish
Regards
Cliff

Hello Kimberley

I was one who first raised the query about Celeb GREET from Tregony. I can confirm that he was born at Gwennap in Cornwall in abt 1860. His parents were Luke GREET [born abt 1817 at Veryan, Cornwall] & Ann GREET [nee TRUSCOTT born Tregony, Cornwall in abt 1818].

Caleb had several brothers & sisters all of whom were born in Cornwall. From the Marriage Cert of Luke & Ann, the father of the groom was named as John GREET a farmer.

I have full details of Caleb's family if you require them.

Regards

Frank Grigg
Cornwall

Many years ago, not sure when, you placed a letter in our newspaper The Press Sentinel in Jesup, Georgia looking for descendants of the Branch, Baxley, O'Quin(n), Outlaw, Revelle, McCall and Johnson families. I need to talk to you about the Branch family also I know some Baxley's. Contact me at pdmannin@bellsouth.net. Thanks Phyllis
