I'm just starting the family tree here, but will be adding more info soon. I do know that my dad's family was Gragg before it was Gregg. There were some relatives (a few generations back) in South Carolina. Let me know if you're interested and I will find his records and add the names here.

Pat

Gladys GREGG, b. abt. 1901 in PA

Gladys GREGG, b. abt. 1901 in PA, was the daughter of Charles "Charley" Marshall GREGG and Jerusha "Ruthia/Rutha" BALL. Rutha was one of two daughters of William Martin BALL and Emily SKIDMORE of Harlan County, KY. I have been unable to trace Gladys GREGG beyond the 1910 census for Orange County, FL. Charles and Rutha GREGG apparently divorced between 1910 and 1920. Rutha GREGG died 29 Aug 1952 in Los Angeles, CA, and is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Glendale. The informant on Rutha's death certificate appears to be Ruth KINGSLEY. Ruth KINGSLEY may be a granddaughter or other relative of Rutha.

Rutha is my 2nd great Grand Aunt. This is a branch of my family that was previously unknown to us. I would be very interested in any additional information about this family.

I haven't seen anything on the John Gragg family who moved from S.C. to Georgia, and settled in Lincoln co., Tn in 1830's.
These Gragg's originally came from Ireland in 1772 with a group of Presbyterians and five shiploads of immagrants from the port of Lane in Belfast, Ireland.
William Sr. and wife settled in Craven-Newberry co. S.C. and raised their five children who were.
Nancy Agnes born March 20, 1775 and may have been married to James Williamson from Laurens co.
John born jan. 3, 1777 and married Jane Gladney
William born March 8, 178o and married Rebekah
mary born June 18, 1784
Thomas born Aug. 28, 1787

Either someone has their family tree wrong or there are just no records of this family, I don't have a clue, but I know there are some that are ancestors of this Gragg family.
I was told that Hugh Gregg, who lived in Newberry co. S.C. was a brother to William Sr. Hugh married Elizabeth Grace.
William Sr. was born about 1743 and all his children were born in S.C.
Williams son, John, settle in Lincoln co, Tn and is buried there. Most of his children were born in S.C. an done in Georgia.
Does anyone have any idea how I can find records of this Gragg family in S.C?
I read several accounts of William Sr in the "Annals of Newberry" by Oneil and Chapman, but find nothing to give me a clue as to their relatives who were in S.C at the same time.
Any help will be much appreciated. I am at a standstill in my search.
Edward Gregg (c.1885-?), Western Pennsylvania
I am looking for any information regarding Edward GREGG, who was married to Bridget Catherine FARLEY in Cambria Co., Pennsylvania in 1907. On their marriage license (5-March-1907), Edward GREGG is listed as 22 years of age and living in Hastings, PA. His parent are listed as "Thos. + Catherine Gregg". It was listed as his first marriage, his race is given as "White", and his occupation as "Miner" (presumably coal miner given the area).

I know that he and Bridget had 2 children (John Joseph GREGG, b. 1907 and Rose Marie GREGG, b. 1911). In the 1910 Census, Bridget & John are living with her mother and stepfather in Westmoreland Co., PA, but Edward is not with them. According to Bridget's second marriage license, her marriage to Edward ended in divorce on 21-April-1917.

I have most of the important information for Bridget and her children, but that's all I have on Edward, and his name is common enough that it's difficult to be sure which is the correct Edward in the census.

Can anyone help?

Glenn
I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va.

Hi there. Stumbled across your question and thought I'd touch base. My family's name is Gregg which is derived from McGregor. We are from the clan McGregor in Scotland and as I understand it, the McGregor family was baished from Scotland. Mark and Martha McGregor came to the United States and somehow estblished roots in NE Wyoming, Worland and Tensleep which is where my father was born. My immediate family lives in the Pacific Northwest, primarily in SW Washington, the Vancouver area.

Any similarities?

Best, Ron Gregg

Aaron Gregg from Wales

I have a dead end and I hope someone can help. My ancester is William Gregg, born 3 Feb 1766 in PA or DE, and he is the oldest son of Aaron Gregg born and wed in Wales to Mrs. Harrington. William wed Sarah Smith in Greene Co, PA in 1797. All I know is that Aaron lived in New Jersey, PA, and Wilmington, DE were he possibly died. One of my sources says that Aaron's father was from Scotland and his mother from England. I cannot find any age appropriate census or historical records. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi! Sharon is my grandmother. Yes, that is my exact descendent line. My mom, sister and I took a trip to Missouri where she was born this summer. Found some cool stuff along the way. I have copies of estate documents with William and Robert W. Gregg's signature on them. I have a picture of RW Gregg's tomestone. I also have a copy of an 1888 biography of Des Moines Co, IA that sources William him as son of William Gregg and Sarah Smith. I think I have a picture of Sarah's tombstone also. Another biography confirms that William was born about 1768 in Pennsylvania and Sarah in New Jersey in 1775. One of the biographies says that William's great grandfather was from Scotland and his great grandmother from England. If you would like copies of these sources, I would be more than happy to provide. I know that the rest of my tree is a result of others research via quaker records, but I have yet to confirm 100% for myself. My e-mail is balensiefenamym@johndeere.com or amymarie2112@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you! Best, Amy

My Grandmother Roxie Ann Tinney talked about the 1896 tornado that hit Sherman and she was living with the Shillings then. A man rode OUT to their place to tell them about it, so they must have lived outside of town. They are listed in the 1900 Grayson county, Texas census. John is listed in the 1910 Washington, Sevier, Texas census with Tucker and his family, but no Susan (she died in 1898). We haven't figured out why Susan is listed in the 1900 census.

Boy! I dropped the ball. I'd love to have what you have on William Henry and John Wise Shilling. As you know, my interest is in John Thomas Shilling and his sister Rebecca Jane (now). I think Rebecca Jane Shilling was the first wife of my Great grandfather Wiley Clark Tinney (my grandmother Roxie Tinney Morgan always talked about his wife Becky and their daughter Nancy who died and is buried in Sevier county, Arkansas) and this would fit well with John being Wiley's brother-in-law and letting him have guardianship over Grandma Roxie after Her mother's death.
Is there anything in your family tradition/history that would fit in this musing of mine??

Susan Gregg was my maternal grandfather's great-grandmother. Susan's son William Henry Shilling (1859-1939) married Sarah Hellena Dulaney (b.1868) in 1885, and their daughter Maud Rowena Shilling (1887-1956) married John Marvin Atkinson (1885-1956) in 1917. Their son Charles Shilling Atkinson (b. 1921) is my grandfather. Anyone know how long Susan and John lived in Sherman, or more about Susan their families? I currently live in Sherman and had no idea I once had/might still have relatives in the area.

Do you descend then from these Greggs through William Gregg, Robert Washington Gregg, his daughter Alice Margaret Gregg, and her son Wallace Gregg Johnson? Prior to William Gregg, my records are sketchy. Anything you could fill me in on would be great, especially if it is sourced information.

Need Craven GREGG DNA help

In trying to crack my early kin roadblock, I sent in to have my DNA tested February 2008. My earliest known proven
kin is Craven Gregg b ca 1811 in Pennsylvania who married
Catherine Stewart, and they lived most of there lives in Greene County, Pa.

So far, there has been only one person (with the Gregg surname) that has been a exact match at the 25 Marker test, and that same person is a genetic distance 2 at the 37 Marker test. There has been no exact matches at the 37 Marker test as of yet.

Many have claimed that a Craven Gregg b 1785 (Quaker Gregg book page 206)is the most likely father to my Craven Gregg, but I'd like proof by DNA to help with an answer.

Any ideas how I can get someone to help out with my quest?
Dean Gregg

Do you have any more recent information? Also where did this couple live, are they UK, or elsewhere? I ask as I am also tracing Greggs and have up to probably the same generation as these. Mine I have going back to b.1771 in Nottinghamshire, UK, with Thomas Gregg m Elizabeth Roos marrying in November 1804 at St Marys @ Nottingham.
