H Greefe/Greif maybe from Rhode Island

Hello I am looking for my grandfather's history or family.
I know he went by Howell or Harry Grief (or it could be Herald)
I think he may have been from Rhode Island. He met my grandmother either in Mansfield OH or in Lexington KY. I know he was married and had a family (other than my grandmother) I think he may have been a laborer or something, he was there working. Is anyone has any ideas or has a family tree that might connect with mine please let me know.

Thanks
Heather

Sheila, Please excuse the tardy response, I just came-across your name but am having a difficult time reaching you by a more updated message or by your alternative names or "handles". I am not enamored by ancestry's new attempt at protecting privacy, although I do not object to the concept.
Anyway on one of your recent postings that I now cannot locate, I found the name of Etta Webster, who died in Lowell, Mass. (Lowell General Hospital) in 1950. I am related to Frederick W.Mealey, Etta's husband and have some documents and information about their family. In the interest of space I apologize for being brief but I will share any documents and information candidly I have on the Mealey family of Lowell, Mass. Frederick was my paternal grandfather's uncle. I sincerely hope you will respond. I much appreciate the information you have shared.Thank you. Tom

Searching for decendents of Catherine and Franc Greif (blacksmith). 1870 census records show them living in Cincinattati Ohio with their daughter Catherine and 3 sons Charles, Edward, and August.
August was my husband's great-great grandfather, settling in Terre Haute, Indiana and having lived in Kentucky as well. Family records show that about 1890 the spelling of the last name became Graiff, however during his lifetime August used both spellings.

My great-grandmother was from Zell-am Mosel in the Rheinisch Palatinate. (This is the home of "Black-Cat" Wine)Her father Peter Greif was "governer" of the city. After arriving in America, she married J. August Renz from Reulingen, Wuertemberg,. They were married in thew Trinartian Lutheran Church in Chicago with the ceremony conducted in German. The couple settled in Leavenworth, KS, where he operated a cigar factory. Other Greifs came later and settled in California, and Washington State. I would like to contact any member of this family.

My grandmother's father was named -- Grief or Greif. She was adopted by a family in Center Point, Ar about 1893-4. Her name was Mildred Tilitha and had a birth brother named Robert. I don't know if they were given their names by their adoptive parents or if these were their birth names. According to family hearsay, Mr. Grief was passing through Center Point when Mildred became sick. He left her at the doctors and never returned. Also according to family heresay, my grandmother was part Indian. If anyone has a missing Greif, Grief in their research that might fit, PLEASE let me know.

My father was Alvin Greif, born 1928 in US. Paternal Grandfather was Saul Greif, born in Europe. Apparently, my Great-Grandfather had left a family in Europe, came to the US and started a "new" one here. (This was common back then.) As a result, I have met (or seen photos of) many Greifs who weren't aware of a family relation -- yet they looked more "Greif" than I did!

(Paula Greif Zane, the commercial director is one, there have been more than 3 others I and my family have seen who appear to be somehow biologically linked.

I beleived that Greifs came from Austria or Germany. Does your posting tell me that I am actually Italian???

My family characteristics are: dark, almost black, usually wavy hair (or dark red hair); dark, deep-set eyes, high, expressive forehead, medium to fair skin.

Robin Greif, rgreif@csc.com

I am looking for a Benedict Joseph Greif (Grief) who was married to and Elizabeth Vaughn, they resided in Fancy Farm, Kentucky at one time. My gggrandfather John Franklin Elliott died at their home on Dec. 05 or 06, 1892. He was related by marriage and I'm trying to find the link. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dana
