I know this is an older message, but I was wondering if you would know if John or Jean Grimord was related to your Gremore. I can't find any information on him, but I think his father's name might have been Frank and they were from Quebec, Canada, St. Anne something. For some reason I thought John might have been in the New York area. He was to my Great Grandfather and was married to Rosanne Belise. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know.

Thank you,
Mary Kesilewski

So in fact, your husband and I have the same great-great-grandparents.
I have accumulated a considerable amount of information on the Grimord family (Pictures, family tree etc.) if you are curious. Although my last name is Gremore, it is only because my great-grandfather John Grimord, changed the spelling. If you have any information that might be in addition to what I have or vice versa, would be happy to correspond and share.

Best Regards, Norm Gremore
Sean
Was searching through general surname references when I came across Sue Ivie's note to you. She is correct in saying that I would be happy to share info with you, but gave you the wrong (old) email address. Realize it's been some time but let me know what you have or if I can be of any help.
I am certain of all information that I have for the family of my Great-Great-Grandfather who settled in Michigans Upper Penninsula and then Florence Wisconsin. At that time, our surname was spelled "Grimord" and is still spelled that way today by some branches of the family.
However, all of the children of my Great Grandfather changed the spelling to Gremore. I have been in contact with the "Indiana Gremores" as I refer to them, and there are some very good reasons to believe we spring from roots of the same tree farther back, but so far can't link them in Canada. Currently I'm just trying to determine if my Great-Great-Grandfather changed the spelling from "Grimard" to Grimord when he first settled here, because I'm not having much luck finding any Grimords in Canada.

Happy Hunting

Oliver Gremore

Sue, this may be coincidence but there is an Oliver and Mary Kraemer listed in the Morovian Diaries on Patterson Creek in present day Hampshire Co WV as early as 1745 with family members there as late as abt 1780. My Gromer ancestor is an early neighbor in Greenbrier to people from Patterson Creek. The family which remained in the Hampshire area used Creamer and Grammer as surnames. Oliver was killed during an indian raid and one referrence indicated Mary was captured by indians. A John Jacob Peter Grammer who is possibly connected was a member of Christopher Gist Company of Scouts in Washingtons VA Reg during the French and Indian War. He is from Baltimore and one of his holdings is listed as Gremores Addition in MD land records. Gist and Cresap are agents of the Ohio Land company of the 1760 time frame and are setting up trading stations with the Western Tribes. Clues to my families related to the Gromers tend to approximate the location of Gist ( he was in several states within a short period, from Baltimore, and a GF of Sequoha who invented the Cherokee alphabet) and Cresap lived near Patterson Creek. I can't tie thinks together yet, but I think a tie in is highly plausible. What do you think? Whether you agree or disagree, I would appreciate you input. Thanks Tom

Sue, I'm playing a hunch which may or maynot prove out. Is one of your Gremore ancestors a Charles? A Charles Gromer appears on a list of petitioners along with Col Clendennin on the Forks of the Elk River in what is now Charleston WV. I am researching Frederick Gromer of Greenbrier/Monroe WV circa 1777-1796. Other identified Gromers in that location include Samuel and Jns (the abbreviation is all that I have)
Two things make a connection plausible. There was a Kraemer family which came to NY in 1705 and one of those is believed to have gone into Canada and they tended to pronounce their name such that the phonetic spelling could be some variation of Cromer or Gromer.
A second clue which may or may not be relevant is that supplies came up river from some unknown source believed to have been in IN during the Revolutionary War prior to Clarks conquest of the region.
There is an LDS entry which list a Charles Gremore as being born in Vinncennes IN circa 1760. Please let me know if this in anyway would match up with your family. Thanks

My husband's Great-Great Grandfather Eli Grimord was from Florence, Wisconsin., and he was married to Catherine Rohmer. My husband's Great Grandmother was Marie Louise Grimord married to Oscar Weiser. Does any of this sound familiar?

Please reply either way?

Kelly

Gremore family

I have some Gremores in my family but not from that area. I may know someone who could help you. His e-mail address is lerado@ix.netcom.com. His name is Norman Gremore. My maiden name is Gremar(d)but my ancestors were French settlers in the Lousiana Territory in the 1700s. We have not been able to track them before they settled there in what is now Vincennes, IN. Good luck, hope Norman can help you.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information. Maybe you have provided a new place to search. The Charles Gremore in Indiana is a son of Pierre Grimard and Genevieve Colomb. There are quite a few descendants of Charles with the Gremore spelling. Thanks for responding, I will see what I can find with the Gromer spelling.
Sue

Looking for Gremore's, just starting looking for history. My Grandfather lived in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and went by Amos Albert Gremore, his brother was Virgil Gremore (now all deceased) We currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada and would like to hear from any Gremore's as I had always thought there were just a FEW of us, never so many from so many areas. I am excited to here from any of you. Cindy
