My great-grandmother was Jane Trembath Grenfell who married Peter Hoskins and came to Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Jane was the daughter of Pascoe and Janie Trembath Grenfell; Pascoe was the son of John and Catherine Grenfell of St. Juste. In 1933, my aunt (Dr. May Davies) contacted Dr. Wilfred Grenfell to ask if they might be related. In his interesting and gracious reply dated Jan. 27, 1933, Dr. Grenfell said that he was a direct descendant of Sir Richard Grenville of Tennyson's Revenge. He referred my aunt to a Miss N. Grenfell, a "distant kinswoman," living in Penzance and wrote further of the "large Grenfell clan.". This letter is a precious possession and I will send a copy to anyone who so requests.
