Re: Grice family Ontario Canada

My grandfather Leonard Grice was born June 18, 1876 to Matthew and Hannah Grice on a farm near Shelbourne, Ont. He was the second youngest of ten children. Brothers George, Frederick, Wesley, Albert, Clarkson, Charles and Norton. Sisters Rachael and Emily. Leonard married Lottie Tupling in 1905 and had six children, one being my father Frederick Grice 1914 - 2000. Leonard and Lottie's other children were Earl, Eva, Harold, Georgina and Russell. Could there be a connection to your family?

The information that I have shows Lottie Taylor Tupling as the daugher of George and Mary. Dymock was George's brother, so that would make Dymock her Uncle. Lottie's siblings were (Manual) Herbert, Effie, Joanna, Charles, Richard and Eva.Lottie married Leonard Grice and they had 6 children. I can give you more information by e-mail if you like. Dymock would be my great, great Uncle.

Yes, Lottie Tupling was the daughter of William Tupling - I am great grandson of her brother Dymock. I have information on most of the William Tupling family except for Lottie. Would like to exchange if you are interested in Lottie's siblings, of not would like to get the information on Lottie and her children, grandchildren etc.

John Johnston
jjohnston@gto.net

Harold Grice was my Uncle. He was my father's brother. My father was Frederick Grice and his mother was Lottie Taylor Tupling who was married to Leonard Grice. They lived in Honeywood, Ontario in the late 1800's. I have information from Lottie forward. Are you related?

Thank you for answering so quickly, John. My grandfather, Francis A. Bradbury left Dewsbury, Yorkshire about 1890 and went to Boston where he married my grandmother,Harriet Durkee in 1902. He named my father Francis LeGrice Bradbury probably after a relative or good friend. My father was born 4May1903 in N>Y> Sorry, that is all the info I have. I thought if I could find info about the mysterious LeGrice I could find more info about my grandfather. I never met him or my grandmother. Good luck to you on your quest. Lois

Re: Grice / Armstrong from N Ireland?

TY Lois
Yes it is a mystery....this female Armstrong was a daughter of William Armstrong and Jane Montgomery. There were 18 children....of which I now have names/dates/info on 10. I thought perhaps by posting this "possible info" it might click with someone.

As far as "middle" names, as you mentioned, YES ...many times I have found they can hold incredible clues. Many times there were middle names so cousins, born around the same time, named (the same) after a relative (ex grandfather) could be distingquished from one another esp in ref to legal matters, like wills etc. Surnames were also used as first names and middle names. These surnames I have found many times ,in my case, were the maiden names of the mother, the grandmother, a brother-in-law, or even given because of respect for a family friend. I am a firm believer that "names" many times hold clues.

In your case I would wonder if Francis' mother's maiden name were Le Grice OR even his father's mother's maiden name? If your research info hasn't gone that far back yet- then I would look into it.

Good luck in your search.

Grice / Armstrong from N Ireland?

Hi
I am looking for Grice that originally came from N Ireland. I do not have much data, and what I have is basically "hear say".....what I do know..

A Grice (male) possibly married an Armstrong in co Fermanagh, N Ireland. I have no birth year s but it would be between the years 1797 to 1820..give or take a year or two. A possible first name for female Armstrong could be Gretta or Georgia or Georgina/Jeorgina.

Not sure when they immigrated but others in Armstrong family immigrated from 1839 to later 1850s. These other Armstrongs...would've been brothers and sister to this "???" Armstrong Grice...settled at different times in Ohio, Illinois, and New York.

I would be very interested in contact with anyone related to this line.

I'm trying to find any info on W H Grice, born c1835. I think he married Amelia Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) and they had a daughter Fanny Emilia in c1859 in Birmingham UK. Fanny married Richard Williams from Islington. On Fanny's marriage cert it shows her father, W H Grice, as being a manufacturer. My research can only find a 'Grice' as being a tube manufacturer. Does anyone have any info about the company? I'm also struggling to find any info in the census records for Fanny's siblings or even further details about her parents, where they lived etc.
Any help would be appreciated, I've come to a brick wall!
Regards
Deborah

Harriet Grice Carter born 1862 in MO died in Lincoln NE

I am looking for info on the ancestors of Harriet Grice born about 1860 in Missouri and died around 1940 in Lincoln, NE? (Note one of the census’ say she was born in Minnesota, but if you look at the original document it says Missouri.)

Harriet’s mother’s name was Susannah (no last name) born about 1829 in Ohio and died about 1922 at age 93 in Lincoln, NE. I can’t find who Harriet’s father (Susannah’s husband) was nor Harriet's siblings - on the 1900 Census Susannah has 3 of her 4 children living. Susannah's parents were both born in OH. Susannah's husband and Harriet’s father, a Grice, was born in VA assuming before or around 1829.

In the 1850 Census there is a Susana Grice born about 1829 -age 21 along with two Grice men: Joseph age 22, born in OH about 1828 and Samuel Grice born in VA about 1820 -age 30. They all lived in Harrison, Montgomery, Ohio. But not sure if this is the same Susannah Grice. I can’t find any of them on the 1870 or 1880 Census.

Then at age 71 Susannah is listed on the 1900 Census living with Harriet and her husband William Carter and Susannah is listed as a widow. Susannah is last seen on the 1920 Census at age 90-91.

Harriet married William H Carter in 1880 in Urbana, Champaign, Illinois. My great grandmother Lena Carter was born Apr 1900 to Wm and Harriet in Lincoln, NE. My grandmother, Della Peery was born in 1926 also in Lincoln, NE.

Thanks,
Josee
I am a descent of Francis Grice of Johnston County, NC. He lived from ~1690-1750. His wife's name was Elizabeth (MNU). I have viewed a copy of his will from 1750. One of his sons was William Grice, father of Stephen Grice who moved to GA from NC in about 1822 where this line of Grice's has remained since. I am looking to extend this line of Grice's back past Francis Grice. I am particularly interested in extending the line back out of the NC and the US, maybe to England? Does anyone have any information that could help?

Thanks so much,

Warren Grice

although you've written long ago, perhaps you might see this as well. My great great grandfather was also Samuel Roe Grice. I have his diaries and letters from his brothers, sister and parents which is now made into a manuscript. I would love to know more of the letters you have and exchange information...of which I have very much. Please feel free to email me at julienilsson@comcast.net.

Re: Being a Grice

I am looking for information about Henry Roe Grice, born in about 1815 and deported for a minor (recieving a stollen handkerchief!) to Australia at age 17. I have a very thorough family record on him. He was my GG Uncle and I am putting together a thorough story on our family. Please contact me at julienilsson@comcast.net if this is the right Grice family. Thank you

GRICE, WALKER, HUGHES and AUSTIN Connections

My grandmother was Laura Ann WALKER, she married my grandfather Thaddeus AUSTIN. Laura's Father and Mother were Joseph and Amminda HUGHES, of Petros, TN. Laura had a sister named Emma WALKER that married a John GRICE, and another sister named Mattie WALKER that married a Jasper TUCKER, all of Petros, TN. I have pictures and willing to share. Not sure of Laura's correct name. Family members have indicated it may have been: Laura Senna Ann, Laurasenna, or even Louannia. In NOTES written by my father, Luther Joseph AUSTIN, he list his mother as Laura Cena Ann WALKER.

I HOPE to make contact with someone on here, and we can exchange some information. You may contact me at either
scenicphoto@highland.net or erayaustin@hotmail.com

Below is all I have on Surname GRICE:

1-John Grice (Apr 1858-)
+Emma Walker (Apr 1870-)
. . 2-George Grice (Nov 1890-)
. . 2-Lula Grice (May 1892-)
. . 2-William "Bill" Grice (Feb 1894-)
. . 2-Roy Grice (Mar 1896-)
. . 2-Pearl Grice (Dec 1899-)
. . 2-Bessie Grice (May 1900-)
