Anne Grider Boone and CPT Henry Grider Connection

I am trying to prove the connection between CPT Henry Grider (1755-1841) and Ann Grider Boone (1817-?) wife of John Boone. I have seen in many lists that she is the daughter of Henry, but i have never seen any documentation or reference that proves this. Also does anyone have a death date for her? I have seen a death date of 1837 in various genealogies, but I have 2 documents that disprove that. The will of John Boone dated in 1843 and the obituary of Nanny Boone Beard which states that Nanny was married in the home of her mother Annie Grider Boone in 1852.

I found that I had Della's home phone number and talked to her today and she clarified as to who I had been in touch with about the Grider Reunion in Missouri that I and my cousin went to several years ago. I have found out lots of things since then but lost your name and also lost names that I got at the reunion. I hope that you will contact me at cjgennut@yahoo.com.Thanks, Carol
I met your relatives. I would like to update you on what I have found out since then on old Jacob and Rebecca Henton/Hinton Grider and their son Jacob Hinton Grider and his children. Even found a connection to The Famous Daniel Boone! I hope you will get in contact with me. I may have to call Della in Washington? to let her know. Sincerely, Carol from Indiana

HI, I was just looking at the posting on Jacob Hinton Grider and was wondering if you had his children's names and who they married. Jacob Hinton is the son of Revolutionery soldier Jacob Grider who is buried in Putnam County Ind and wife Rebecca Hinton/Henton. I am trying to prove decent thru the son of Jacob Henton Grider that I think is his son at least named Irvin or Evan Grider who died in Davis County Iowa in 1852.

If you are still watching this site I would like to know if you ever found Jacob and Nancy Grider in the 1850 census. My family records show they should have been in Missouri and most likely in Taney County but so far I have not found them anyplace.

Thanks,

Ken

I am very interested in this gentleman. I believe he is related to a lady that I am researching by the name of Sarah M. Grider. There is a Tobias Grider listed in the same household with her in Warren Co., KY in the 1850 census with a Sally Grider (b. about 1805) that appears to be their mother. Also listed in the household is Mary Grider and John Grider.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: J.A. Grider-Texas Military Institute in 1857

I just found this old posting and asked our archivist, Paula Allen, at TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas to respond. I hope that you find this information helpful.

The “Texas Military Institute” engraved on the silver cup must be the one formerly located at Bastrop, Texas, as it was the only school by that name in operation at that time. A Texas Military Institute was founded in 1854 in Galveston, Texas, and was consolidated in August 1856 with Rutersville College of La Grange, Texas, to form Texas Military Institute in Bastrop, Texas, where it was located until a move to Austin during the winter of 1869-1870. The college operated there until 1879.

TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas was founded in 1893 in San Antonio as West Texas Military Academy; its name was changed to Texas Military Institute after a 1926 merger with San Antonio Academy. Since 2005, the school has presented its name as TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas.

Sources: Handbook of Texas, an encyclopedic reference compiled and published by the Texas State Historical Association. You may view online entries on Texas Military Institute, Galveston, at http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/TT/kbt16....; and on Texas Military Institute, Austin, at http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/TT/kbt17....; for a brief online history of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, please visit http://community.tmi-sa.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=293&a...

Re: Some thoughts on the NC GRIDER/GRYDER/CRIDER ancestry brick walls

Hi: you need to be careful on this name, in this time period. There WERE many bonafide CRIDERS stemming out from some areas of PA and VA. Of course, the GRIDERS had many name changes like Crider/Cryder/Gryder, etc., too---so you must search two completely unrelated huge groups from that and prior eras. I checked our files and cannot find any Crider/Grider, Barbaras that might fit this bill...this is what makes me think that your Barbara may actually have stemmed from any of the other CRIDERS found historically in early Virginia---I know a book has been written about this surname there, too. Regards, Melissa--haven't done any more genealogy for years but found your post interesting.

On the 1900 Census Fannin, Texas I find a Walter M GRIDER born March 1873 in Ky. that married at age 27 with wife Bertha born Nov. 1880 in Texas at age 19. Looks like they have a son Wilson that is 5. His mother, Barbara born 1848 in Ky. is also living with them that is a widow. Looks like her last name is WHITERED? So she must have married again. Not sure if this is the family you seek but it sure could be.
