Forgot to say Chris, My Grandparents were Thomas and Sarah (Yallup) Grief and they had nine children, my Mother was the middle one and the last born in Norfolk. Grandad came to Middlesbrough to work on the docks probably encouraged by his cousins, including Edward who went to Middlesbrough around 1888. He previously worked on the docks at King's Lynn. The family were Thomas, (Known as Mr Music and mourned by his junior philharmonic orchestra when he died) Jack, Leonard, Florence (her daughter lives in Middlesborough and is visiting me this week) Doris, (my Mum) Gladys, William, Edna and Raymond.Raymond's wife is still alive and living in Middlesborough.
If you would like to contact me by email I would be very pleased.

Hi Chris, Would you believe!! I was born in Middlesborough, daughter of Doris Evelyn Susan Grief, of Elliot Street, (now demolished) and Matthew(Terry) Mc Manus.I know there are quite a few Griefs in Middlesborough and I have cousins still there. I was born in Borough Road, 5th July 1939, just before the war broke out. By the age of two I was living in Malton North Yorkshire and that is where the family stayed. So it looks like we are cousins, how delightful!!

Louis Grief-Spanish American War Veteran

Hello,
I have absolutely no Grief lineage. But, what I do have is disturbing information regarding people auctioning off a wonderful photo of a gentleman apparantly named Louis Grief taken at his "camp" during the Spanish American War. I personally would rather see these old photos returned to their rightful families rather than used for profit, but alas tis a varied world we live in. Anyway..I have saved the digital image to my computer...so if anyone would be interested in that at least...you would be welcome to it...free of course...simply email me and I will be happy to forward it on. I do hope that someone out there will be helped by this pic...

Sharon...

Just saw your message. You probably have this information by now, but I thought I would send this anyway. I am looking for information on Clementine who is the mother of my great-grandfather Arthur Stanley. Alvis Grief, her son when she was married to Simon Grief married a Clara Heathcock and died in California according to information I have found. Alvis is listed on the 1900 Graves Co. Ky Census with Simon, Clementine, and the three Stanley boys are listed as step-sons. Hope this helps if you had not found more information.
