I got a few of Donald's brothers' and sisters' names from Don's mother, but she didn't remember much. Nobody seemed to know anything about his family. I took what I had, ran it through Ancestry, compared names, dates and locations and this is what I came up with. It may not be correct, but if it is then I have more info on his family than his family does. If you have better info, I'd like to see it, if I may. This is Charlotte married to your brother in law Don. I am stuck on Hiram Griffet from Tennessee. I am trying to think from the top of my head, I don't have my notes in front of me, if I remember right, Hiram was Jacobs father on a 1930 cenus in Illinois stating Hiram was from TN but I can't find any records on him (Hiram). Let me know what you have. I might have also found a connection to some Griffet's in Belgium.

Hi! I think I know you. My name is Pam Pyatt. I think we emailed each other a few years ago. I still have the same email address. In regards to Nancy, Griffeth was the name of a man she married around 1874 or 1875. They married in Russell, Camden, MO and then came to Arkansas. But by 1880, John had gone back to MO with his blind daughter. His sons stayed in Arkansas and became a prominent family there. My mom's school teacher was a decescendant of theirs. I have not been able to find her in 1870 census, but some genealogy group researchers I have talked to apparently have found her in 1860 and earlier, athough nothing has been proven for sure yet. She apparently had 2 other children besides Melvin and Matilda. And I haven't seen a Hoppins anywhere. Her maiden name was Johnson.

I am looking for information on Nancy Griffeth, maiden name unknown, who was born in Alabama about 1828. She lived in Taney County, Mo. in 1880 with her son, Thomas Griffeth and his wife Louisa. She also had two of her children - William, age 9 and Ellen age 4, living with them. I believe she may be the mother of my ggrandmother Dora Griffith Rains. Dora and John Wiley Rains are listed on the same 1880 Taney Co. census. One of her sons, Thomas or William, had a daughter called Nettie, who was living with my ggrandparents in Oklahoma in 1900. Nettie was born about 1892 in Missouri. I would appreciate any information on this family.

I am the great grandaughter of Susetta Griffith (b. Jan 28, 1912). Her mother was Sarah Ellen Griffith (b. Apr 1, 1871)- her siblings were: John (b. 1860), Mary Jane (b. 1870), William (b.1875). Sarah Ellen's parent's were Sam Estep ( we think) and Elizabeth "Betsey" Griffith (b. Jun 6, 1837). Elizabeth "Betsey" Griffith's parent's were John Griffith (b. Abt 1782 in PA) and Alaminta or Artaminta Johnson (b. abt 1800 in TN/VA).

Please let me know if any of these people match your records and if so, let's exchange information.

My husband's g-grandmother was Nannie Bullock who married Lindsay C. Griffeth in the Athens, GA area. He is listed in the 1920 Census as being 56 years old and she is 43. They have two adult children living with them, one son Jesse aged 33 and a dau Mollie Bell 22 (my husband's gmother) Nannie is reputed to be 1/2 Cherokee Indian, but at this point we haven't been able to establish this as a fact.

Lois, Boy, I don't know how I missed this message from you.
Our "Griffeth" side used to be spelled "Griffith", but someone got mad at his family and changed the spelling. My Dad told me that story and I guess it was his Granddad that changed it, but I can't say for sure and Dad has been dead a long time now so I can't ask him.
I don't beleive we are related even if we were both Lois Griffeth's.

Lois, how many generations has your maiden name been spelled "GRIFFETH?" We have "Leons" in our GRIFFES family but I'm not sure if we have any men with the given name of "Leo." I am still interested in the possibility of our GRIFFES name being of French or French Candaian origin.

Do you have any of these given names in your GRIFFETH family?: Orlon, Orlin, Orlen, Orlan, Orson, Ensign.

We have tried for many years to find the connection between our GRIFFES family and the family of the American composer, Charles Tomlinson GRIFFES.

Then, there is a third family that has the GRIFFES spelling, and they do have some men with the name "Leo." We have been unsuccessful so far proving a connection to that family, as well. William A. GRIFFES was a son of Samuel and Mary (HALL) GRIFFES. William A. was born in England, and his son, Melvin Leslie GRIFFES, is where all of the offspring is, because of other marriages. Melvin L. GRIFFES was born in Kingston, Canada. That GRIFFES family settled in Newaygo County, MI and Montcalm County, MI, but now has families near Lansing.

Our GRIFFES family came from CT to NY to PA to Jackson County, MI, and then, homesteaded on farms in Lake County, MI about 1874, and then, the majority of the families ended up in Muskegon, Michigan.

As you can see, I, too, am Lois, and my maiden name is Griffes and I was born in Michigan where I live now. I have been told since I was young, that our Griffes family came from Wales. However, ever since I was in the 8th grade, I have believed that we are French. Tracing my family back, my father was Orlon Mitchel Griffes, my grandfather was Orson Mitchel, then, there was Ensign Beals, Orson Mitchel, Orlin, James, Jr., James, then, Thomas Griffis, and the first one that we know about was John Griffee, who bought land in Haddem, CT. Our Griffes family went from Haddem, CT to Litchfield, CT to Cornwall, CT to Steuben Co., NY to Cattaraugus Co., NY to Clarklake, MI to Lake Co., MI to Muskegon Co., MI. If any of these Christian names or areas of the country coincide with any GRIFFETH families, I would be interested in hearing from you.

Please HELP!!! I cannot find anything on Donald Samuel Griffet. I know there is not many Griffet's out there and I know most of them are in Indiana and Illinois. All I have is he married Mary Jane Robbinson and lived in Anderson, IN. He had five children, Susan Annett, Samuel Eugene, Donald Max, Edris Marie, and Patrick Roy. He might have relatives in Illinois also but what part, I do not know. I know this is not a lot to go by, but it's a start.
