Grigsbys of Lake County, Calif.

Looking for any leads on family and ancestors. Great-grandparents were Chester R. Grigsby and Stella Grigsby, grandfather Donald C. Grigsby (unknown great-aunts?), father is Lester D. Grigsby, aunts are Carla Clark and Donna Stephens. Any family before then is unknown. Family moved to Carmichael/Fair Oaks, CA shortly after my dad was born so in or around or shortly after 1947. I do know that every summer my dad and my aunts would visit Stella and aunts, possibly family story that local paper would run notice saying Grigsby kids are back? Not much else to go on. I do know that Chester enlisted for WWI, Donald for WWII, and my dad served in Vietnam.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. A lot of the family history is lost, forgotten, or unknown.

Maybe someone there can help with your proof. I don't remember how I discovered the site. I believe Horatio is my 4th great-grandfather according to this site.

Hi. I read your post and have a question. You have William W. Grigsby m. to Ursula Mann 1705....I have William Grigsby m. to Margart Ursley Mann 1716, I also only have 7 children...Richard, John, Margret, Ann, William, Alice, and Lettice, You have 8, who am I missing. William W. Grigsby son of John Grigsby is my 7th great grand uncle, my line goes through his brother James. What does the "W" stand for? I did not put a source for marriage date so have no idea how I came by 1716. Do you have a source for 1705 ? my email is kwith48@comcast .net, I have an open tree on ancestry "Gray family tree" Maybe we can share info...thanks, Kathy

Looking for descendants of my grt-grandfather's (Edward O. Grigsby) brother, Madison Grigsby. I have seen Madison as late as 1900 on the census. I thought he had died in the Civil War before finding him. Edward O. Grisby was an assistant surgeon most of the Civil War. He moved from Mississippi after the Civil War to Woodruff County, Arkansas. Madison stayed in Mississippi. Contact me at TXresrch@earthlink.net (not at the sunset55 shown here). Edward O. married Eliza Norrell and had a daughter, Nettie Odessa, who married William Burwill Miers, my grandfather. She joined him in Ellis Co. TX and later moved to Hearne, Robertson Co., TX.

Yes, this is the right family. For example, Samuel Grigsby who died 1781 Fauquier Co., VA, had a son, Samuel Grigsby who married Franky Cornwell. An administrator of Samuel Grigsby Sr.'s estate was Henry Peyton. I am unsure of exactly which Henry Peyton this was but one of the Henry Peyton's married Margaret Gallahue and also Ann Thornton. This Ann Thornton had a brother Charles who I believe may have been the father of my Elizabeth Thornton Cornwell. This Charles Thornton married Maryann Gallahue.

Besides the Cornwell-Grigsby connection - which is quite extensive - Jesse Ewell witnessed the will of Charles Cornwell who died in Prince William Co. VA in 1779, indicating a possible family connection between the Cornwells and Ewells. Charlotte Ewell married Darby Gallahue. Also, Henry Peyton, Gentleman, posted a bond for the good behavior of John Cornwell in 1753. I have other - numerous - examples of "circumstantial evidence" of linking to this Thornton family, so if you have any information that might shed light on this matter, I would certainly appreciate your input.

Thank you!

Could you provide me with more information about James Grigsby and Charlotte Gallahue? I am trying to determine the ancestry of Elizabeth Thornton bc 1775 m. Charles Cornwell and I believe that Mary Ann Gallahue who married Charles Thornton may have been Elizabeth's parents, but have no proof. I do know, however, that many Cornwells married Grigsbys and there was an entire "colony" of Grigsbys and Cornwells in Paoli, Orange Co., Indiana. So, any information about James Grigsby and Charlotte Gallahue could be important to my research. Thank you.

Great to hear from you and thank you for replying. I have been trying to get information on my family for years with little luck. I have some information and death certificates for Sophia and a couple of others. I am trying to finish a project I started with my grandmother before she pasted. Would you mind sending me some photos. If you have any of the house in and church in Homer. Actually any photos or information you can give me on my family would be great. Names and birthdates as well as if they are living or dead would also help. Do you have anything on Darbie Steel? I can't find any information. I am trying to leave a family history for my children as well and neices and nephews. My grandmother and all of her sisters and brothers have pasted away, so I have only the information we were working on prior to her death, which wasn't a lot due to her age. If there is anything that I can to do to get you information from this side, I will be more than willing. Again that you. You can scan and send pictures to the following address tanteeconley@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Katrina,

Im late again in getting back with you regarding my Grigsbys..
I have thus found out that my Hilda Grigsby's name was Brunhilda Inez Grigsby, and she married John H Grigsby..
He died in 1882 of some brain sickness, and left her with 3 children..Hilda, Welborn and Minerva...Hilda was my Grandmother....she died at age 31 of Typhoid Fever, leaving my father and his sister..
John's father was also John Grigsby...The Grandmother was Minney or Winney Grigsby and her husband was Toliver Grigsby who came from North Carolina....That is as far back as I have been able to go..
Sally
