Hi, I'm looking for anyone with the last name of Grys. I couldn't find any exact matches on this site, but I'm trying
to find out where I came from. My dad seems to think that We're Polish/Slovakian, and my grandfather had a stroke and can't remember very much. As far as I know, I only have 2 generations of ancestry. I know nothing about who I am or where I came from before my grandfathers time, and I really want to know. If anyone can help me, please let me know.

Grises in Maryland

There are several Grises (John, Henry, David
and Daniel) who are listed in mid-19th century Stark County
Ohio censuses. They were born about 1810 to
1830 in Maryland, but there seems to be no
records in Maryland of them. Any help would

That would be wonderful. The last my husband and his family knew, there were still Grises in Otawa, OH. Or let's say people they were still related to. But then, my husband passed away suddenly a few years ago.

Debbie: Most probably Thomas Grise was married in Putnam County-or Hancock county. Courthouse records are in Ottawa,OH for Putnam county. I live in St. Louis, but the next time that I am home, I could look for marriage records, if you would want? Then you could learn if he married a Helen? Alma

Debbie: You are right about the birthdate. That is what is listed at Ancestry World Project: Global search. I saw Florence Ruth Grise on a website and suspected that she could be the daughter of Thomas Grise, my grt uncle. Another reason; Ottawa, OH is a very small town, and there are no longer any Grises there that I am aware of, other than the decendants of Beckmans . To be born in Ottawa, OH and to have the name Grise , one would most probably be a relative of Peter Grise, my grt grandfather. Thomas Grise had a sister named Florentine. I think that Thomas Grise could have been born in Stark County, OH. where the family moved to in 1825, then to Hancock county in 1852 and then to Putnam county in 1856, according to Peter Grises obituary in the Putnam county Sentinel., Thursday, July 2, 1885.

Died 10 SEP. 1967 in Clare, MI --father Thomas Grise, mother Helen, spouse Gerald James Nivison on the Ancestry Tree Project: Global Search. Alma, I checked the information I had from my husband and his family. All that he remembered at the time was his mother's father's name was Thomas Grise. I will run out to the cemetery this weekend and check my husband's mother's date of birth but 1904 sounds about right. Her mother's name was Helen but no one in the family had her maiden name. - Debbie

Could be distantly related but Merle Thomas Grise was my husband's uncle. He would have been born in the early 1900's in Ottawa, OH. My husband's grandparents moved from Ottawa to Michigan when his mother was about 5 years old, according to people around here.

Alma, I just checked the birthdate of Florence Ruth Grise. She was born April 8, 1911. This comes off her headstone at the cemetery. Much of the information I have on her comes from people who knew her, local newspaper, family members and the local cemetery. - Debbie

My great grandfather came from Quebeck. His name was Joseph and they moved to Northampton, MA. One of his sons (my grandfather) was named Napoleon joseph Grise. He had a brother Alphonse and 2 others cant remember their names. Do you have any info on them? Thanks Holly

Ann Grawburg is the d/o William Henry Grawburg and Amelia Grace Roberts. Ann married W.B. GRISE in Elgin County, Ontario before 1930. W.B. and Ann had at least 2 daughters by 1930, when she visited her father near Belmont, Ontario.
The Grise family lived on Springbank Drive in London, Ontario from 1930 to at least 1973. I am researching the Grawburg's and found this information. If anyone can provide further insight into the Grise relation, I would appreciate having it.
