My gr-grandmother, Manda Tallulah Griss seems to have just appeared out of thin air in time to give birth to my grandfather Henry Grady Wadsworth in 1893. I can find no trace of her existence before then. Tombstone gives her birth date as 11-12-1871, and census records indicate that she was born in GA. No trace of her on the 1880 census, and of course the 1890 census was lost in the fire at the National Archives in 1921. My grandfather, who was born out of wedlock, was the only child she ever had. She was married 3x, first to Henry S. Braswell, second to a Carter, and finally to William J. Hicks. She died of breast cancer 6-28-1927 at Braswell, Polk Co. GA. She is buried Rose Hill Cemetery, Rockmart, Polk Co. GA. Death certificate does not give full names of her parents as it should, only that her father was a Griss and mother was a Wofford. My father (age 83) remembers that she had a sister who married a Winters and lived near Dallas, Paulding Co. GA. Can anybody connect this mysterious woman to some of her family?
