Obit of Mrs. George (Elizabeth Walter) Grob 1897

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MRS. ELIZABETH GROB
JULY 30, 1897

At the family home on Oak street, Thursday morning, July 29, 1897, Mrs. Elizabeth Grob, aged 45 years, 1 month and 3 days.
Mrs. Grob, whose maiden name was Walter, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Walter, of this city, was born in Baden, Germany, June 26, 1852, and came with her parents to America in 1856. In 1873 she was married to George J. Grob. Nine children were born to them, six of whom, with their father, her aged father and mother, and a large circle of other relatives are left to mourn her loss.
Deceased had been a long but patient sufferer from a lingering illness. Her husband and other relatives were constant in their devotion and care, and all that could be was done to make her comforable. Mrs. Grob was a consistent member of the Evangelical church, which she joined when but a young miss. She was a quiet, motherly woman, who, so long as her health would admit, was a mother living for her children and catering to the wants of the family circle. She goes to her final rest with assurances of having done her part in rearing a large family. The funeral rites will be held from the Baptist church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.

My wife's family is descended from the GROB family. Her grandmother Esther Grob (married Fred Koch) lived most of her life in Lincoln county, Washington near a town called Rocklyn just west of the county seat, Davenport. Her parents were Frederick Grob (1873-1915) and Wilhelmina Kirsch (1877-1968). Frederick's parents were Adam Grob & Elizabeth Krieg and Adam's parents were George Jakob Grob and Elizabeth Walter. Email me for further details. I think I might have a couple gravestone photos from the Rocklyn Cemetery if anyone wants those.

John Wilson
wjp5@comcast.net (put Grob in the subject, please)

Janet,

I have been trying to find out about other Grob's out there that could be family. So far I have found a half brother, Paul Douglas Grob in North Carolina. My father was Albert Heald Grob. He was born in Thomaston Maine, and raised in Red Bank New Jersey. He had a brother John who had an interior decorating business in Miami. He also had brothers who lived and worked up and down the Atlantic Seaboard.

My grandfather was Charles Adam Grob who was a brick maker in Maine before moving to Red Bank New Jersey where he continued in the brick business. Grandmothers maiden name was Kronke. If you wish to contact me directly by email my address is albert.h.grob@us.army.mail I am retired from the military and use this address out of pride.
My nameis Albert Grob, My grandfather's name was Charles Adam Grob. It is my understanding that he came to the states via south america inthe late 1800's. I have not been able to verify this piece of information. However I haveit from recentlydiscovered cousins in New Jersey and Florida that Charles Adam Grob settled first in Thomaston Maine where he opened a brickmaking business. He then moved to Red Bank New Jersey where he opened anotherbrick yard. Also that this yard supplied a great amount of the brick used in the Empire State building.
He had sevensons, I believe, none of which still survive. My father Albert Grob was the youngest, born in Maine in 1916. I have a brother Darryl, fire chief of Aspen Colorado, Paul who is in construction. Iama retired school teacher who now works as a corrections office, notthatmuch of a change really, in a local correctional institution. Hope this can be of some use to you. I canbe contacted at algrob@lycos.com

Andrew,
I am delighed to see your reply! Fred and Tina were my grandparents on my mom's side. Mom (Ruth) is still living, but has Alzheimers. She will be 83 soon. I never knew Gma Tina, as I was born in 1954, long after she was gone. Gpa was a very kind and down-to-earth man, and while I don't remember too much about him, I enjoyed going to visit. I know all of their children's names, but perhaps I can help you with something, if you had any questions. I would love to see the article, and know more about gma Tina's family. About the only thing I know about her family is her two brothers, Christ and Arthur, who lived on a farm close to gpa Fred. Are you the one who has listed the family line on Ancestry.com? At one point, I saw the name Vondracek tied to the information, which was mom's sister Ruby's married name. Thanks again for replying--I look forward to communicating with you. Please feel free to email me directly.
Connie

Hi Connie;

My grandmother was Jenervia Roehrs, daughter of Peter S. and Emma Grob; Peter and Frederick E. were brothers.
Fred W. Kreft was born 7 Feb 1892; died 7 Jan 1968 in Franklin County, MO - Tena B. Grob was born 28 Nov 1895 in Leslie, Franklin Co, MO, died 17 Feb 1941 in City of St. Louis, MO; both are buried in Woodman Cemetery, south of Leslie. They were married 10 April 1912 in Leslie, Franklin Co. MO. The only information I have on their children are their names. Tina's parents, aunts and uncles I have lots of information including pictures of gravemarkers. Will be glad to share with you, including an interesting story that appeared in the St Louis POST-DISPATCH about the wedding of Frederick and Fredericka.

My name is Janet Frances Grob Stone. My father is John Milton Grob of Maine and had family in Red bank NJ. He has a brother Albert who lived and worked with him in the 1960's in North Miami , Fl. There were several boys and 1 girl in his family. Their mother's name is Pauline ,father's name George. I'd have to look up her last name, as it doesn't come to me at the moment. It seems as though it was Koenke. I have done very limited research on the family name. I would like to know the family 's root, and I think their father came from Germany.
