The Grocki/Grocke Divide...

Classification: Query
Surnames: VanGroski, Grocki, Grocke
I have been doing family geneology, and I've come to discover that after John Grocki (1859-?) and Frances Pokorska Grocki (1862-?) came to America from Poland, their children started a name change. Some dropped the 'I' and added the 'E'. There's been some stories that I've heard that there was a Stanslovsky VanGroski, who happened to be a Polish land baron, that there was a relvolt than came about by his peasants; to which they took over the estate and land. I've heard that most of the family changed their names to Grocki, to sound more German. Most of any connected family fled the country. Some to the USA, some to Austria, and others to Austrailia. John Grocki would've been my great, great grandfather. The only connection who still speaks Polish in my family is my Grandmother, Loretta Grocke. If anyone out there has any information than can tie these loose ends together would be greatly appreciated. I just want to know where I come from. Where 'home' is/was. I would like to go to Poland one day, but before that happens... I need to know where?!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Britt
