Beverly - I believe we are from the same Groen family--Henry G. Groen (1869-1934) and Henrietta H. Pals (1873-1958). I have in my possession a letter that your father (Kenneth) sent to my parents (Fred and Mildred Trager) in 1986. In it he lists your name and your siblings. Your grandparents (George H Groen and Augusta Hammerich) and my grandparents (Tena Groen and Emil Trager ) were brother and sister. Please respond as I have considerable information on our families. I found a Jan Groen in the South Dakota Historical Society Cemetery records. The death date was 07 July 1925. I don't know if he is your overgroot opa or not.

I'm a Groen originally from South Dakota, but I don't think we are related. There are at least a couple of Groen families that I know of.

mine grandmother and Feike where cousins, all the family war born in Holland ,Friesland in a little village called Oldetrijne .They emigrated in 1897, a few oldests children came some weeks later ,and ja they went to Platte .
If you like i have some pictures from a brother (mine great-grandfather )he was an brother from Johannes Alberts Groen (Feike Alberts)who emigrated to the States .
I am looking for Lee Groen his grandfather was Feike ,and he lives near Los Angeles,do you have his e-mail i lost it

My aunt's maiden name was Groen. Her grandfather was Ferke Groen, b.about 1882 and married to Jennie Winters, b. 11 Sept 1886. Both were born in Holland. I do not know when they immigrated to the US.

They lived in Platte, SD and had 10 children:
Albert, b. 23 Dec 1911 d. 24 Feb 1996
Joe or John b. about 1909
Jacob b. about 1910
Jennet b. about 1914
Hattie b. about 1916
Nick b. 08 May 1917
Margurite b. about 1919
Henry

I read the message in 2006 but was not aware that Peter was a relative. Today I discovered via the url findagrave.com that Peters father was married twice and that the children (incl. Peter) were from his first wife Bessie in stead of Mary de Vries.

My father, Durk(Richard) Groen, was born in Heerenveen. His family came to USA in 1909. His father was Wieger Hendricks Groen and his mother was Berber Pasma. Wieger's father was Hendrick Pieters Groen. Hendrick's father was Pieter Hendricks Groen. Pieter's father was Hendrick Ykes Groen. Hendrick Ykes father was Yke Fokkes Groen and mother was Trientje Hendricks Bakker. Are any of these Groen's in your tree?? Could sure use help and someone who can speak Dutch!!!!!!

I have only one Dirk Groen in my database. He was born in 1875 in an unknown location. He died on an unknown date and buried in Rock Valley, Iowa. He was a blacksmith in Rock Valley. He was married to Neeltje Cornelia Wynanda Rysdam. I do not think this is the person whom you are seeking.

I do have several women with the Groen last name that, in my database, are married to an Unknown Groen. This means I do not have a first name for their husband. Unfortunately I do not have the married Groen women's maiden names so I suspect I could not match up your mother with any of the unknown male Groens.

Interested in your findings in Germany. Can you tell me some more about it, in general?
I know we are from Friesland/Groningen and Germany but never really looked any further than Friesland around 1750-1800. Maybe you have a bit more.

Hi- I was just browsing & came upon this request for info. I knew a George Groen who I believe died in 2004? He lived in Rock Rapids, IA. & had quite a horse farm/business. I purchased one of the last mares from him before his death. I'm wondering if these aren't his parents?

Maybe it is handy to give some more details about this family.
Jan Harms Groen and his wife Remda Ennenga lived in Lennox, Lincoln Co, Sd and they had at least 10 children.

Hinderk Jan Groen and his wife Mina Janssen lived in Bancroft, Kossuth Co, Ia with their 6 children.

Peter Groen, 78, Moses Lake resident, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Summer Wood Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Moses Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with Pastor Larry Brice officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory.

Viewing will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Peter was born Oct. 5, 1927 to the late Joe & Bessie (Straatsma) in Billings, Mont. At a young age he moved with his family to Lynden, where he was raised and educated.

In 1951 he married Betty Bouma.

Peter worked as a dairy farmer for many years and also for the Department of Natural Resources. In the mid-1990s they retired and made Moses Lake their home.

Betty passed away June 28, 2003.

Survivors include his five children, Dolores Martin, Teresa Tyler, Marlene Bergerson, Marjorie Oldham and Russell Groen; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Can you provide additional information on the family of Pieter Groen and Jantje Langenberg? I had their marriage but nothing more.

Jantje's sister, Neeltje, married Jan Gerrits Koppedraijer - my 3rd great-grandparents. Neeltje died in Andijk, NL and Jan and his family was in German Township, Grundy County, Iowa area near Ackley by 1880. This is about 180 km north of Pella.

My Groen's are from Northern IL but not Chicago. My family arrived abt 1880-1882 from Ostfriesland. They were from Loppersum.

My grandfather was Peter H. Groen (b.1891, Amsterdam, Holland).His father was Arndt Groen and his mother was Gezenia Prys. He had two sisters, Johanna(b.1893), and Hermiena (b.1899). Hermiena married John Van Brook. I think they later changed the name to Brook. Johanna married William Henry Weber. Any descendents who can help me with ancestors would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to connect with descendents to share information/stories with. Thanks!

of Lincoln County,South Dakota" the children are not identified.
Am a great grandchild of Harmka Groen/Frederick Heyer.
She was daughter of Hinderk Groen & Meina Janssen.

The brother of Hermann Groen (moved to IOWA) was Jürren Groen. He was schoolmaster in Nüttermoor, Ostfriesland Germany. I'm his grand-grandchild. Some Groens are living also in the area of lower saxony, Germany.

Can somebody give me more informations about the Groens in USA?

You mention the marriage of Harmiena Groen to John J Van Brook, in actuality John Van Der Broecke according to the marriage application on 9 September, 1915, in Rochester, NY.
Not too long after their marriage they moved to Detroit and for a while lived at 15114 Eastwood Ave. When John deserted his family in the middle 1930's (according to his son Arthur), he eventually made his way back to Rochester, NY, and lived there until his death on 19 March, 1960. Whether he ever got a divorce is uncertain at this time, but on 6 December, 1951, he did marry Bertha Bennett in Rochester, where they lived at 645 Norris Dr, an apparent veterans village/appartments. She died about 1958/59, after which in he married Helen Butwid in 1959 who outlived him until 21 March 1970, when she died in Honeoye Falls, NY.
This is some of the information I have collected for a family history for Arthur van Brook.
I would be very interested in hearing from you, as Arthur would be your cousin.
