He wants to know if anybody knows more about
Gisbert / Gijsbert Groeneveld, who was born on August 13, 1845 in Katwijk aan de Rijn. Gisbert left for The Dutch Indies in 1877 after being trained in Hardewijk for (colonial) military service.
His brother Jan Antonie (born 1859) followed in his footsteps approx 10 years later

I don't know if you have been replied to earlier, not whether your mail address still works (after all its 5 years since your request).
There is a dutch/ english site about Groeneveld www.naamsvereniging-groeneveld.nl - currently containing family-trees of about 40 'tribes', unfortunately for you, they are sorted on oldest known ancester and place of birth/ death. However, you may post a request in the guestbook and the site-minder/ secreteriat may guide you further, he's a real great guy with terrific IT skills
I myself am part of tribe P, most part sorted my my dad, Gijsbert Pieter and Lauw Tiap Nio (somewhere in the middle of generation IX) are my greatgrandparents.

I am trying to make my family tree, and am having great difficulties for my fathers side. He is from Holland, immigrated to Canada when he was 9 yrs of age.
Seems all the sites that lead me to a possibilty of finding some information are in Dutch, which i am unableto read.
Here is the info i have,

My grandfather, Henry Greenfield/Hinrich Groenefeld, came from Leer as a child. His grandfather was Menno Jans Fresemann Groeneveld. Menno Groenefeld had a child (I found a list with 9 children) named Schwantje Groenefeld. Would this be the same? Menno was born 1/8/1888 in Inrhove, Leer co, Ostfriesland, DEU; died Alexandra, IA. Married to Hilke "Helen" Schulte. Mother Zwaantje Warntjes Niemann. Henry was born in Steenfeld, Leer, Ostfriesland, DEU, on 7/24/1892 and died June, 1971, in Waterloo, IA.

Hello, Cousin. I don't know where Grandpa Greenfield fell in the order - so many children (then again, my mother-in-law came from a family of 11 or more).
My father - Duaine Henry Greenfield - has told me that a cousin has done extensive research - however, I haven't been able to contact him. Apparently, Larry has traveled to Germany to trace roots.

Hilke "Helen" Shulte 1/8/1888, daughter of Hinrich Schulte and Antje Olthoff, b. 1/20/1865. Menno Groenefeld was a Journeyman Miller. His and Helen's children are (as I have them) Antje, b. 2/10/1888; Hinrich, b. 3/30/1890, d. 5/7/1890; Schwantje (your grandmother?), b. 4/2/1891; Hinrich (Henry, my grandfather), b. 7/24/1892, d. 6/1971; Menna, b. 4/3/1895;
Hilke, b. 3/7/1897; Sievert, b. 11/19/1898, d. 5/8/1990; Gretke, b. 3/23/1900; and Sievert Menno, b. 8/27/1901.
Henry m. Lena Eden and had 3 children, Caroldina (sp?), whom we all called Toddy; Roberta, and my father, Duaine Henry, b. 12/8/1929.

I am looking for the family of Martja "Mary"
Groeneveld bon 1 Aug. 1853 Province of Groningen, Netherlands her father was Peter and her mother was Anje David de Goede. Mary married 1.) John W. Ter Haar in Chicago after his death she married Pieter Ploegsma and they moved to Sedro-Woolley, Washington where she died in 1934 and is buried there.

Mary: I just stumbled onto your message about Pieter(Peter) Ploegsma and know that it has to be my Great-Grandfather. I have been doing research off and on now for a few years and slowly have collected small bits and pieces. Your "Mary" was not his first wife, but possibly his last, as he said to have outlived four, and he died in 1943
shortly prior to his 87th birthday in Indiana. I have little history about him other than he immigrated in or prior to 1875 and before his 18th birthday. I have searched all available ship's passenger lists and also cannot find his name or any Ploegsma close to his age there. He was always said to have been born in Friesland on 25 December 1856. It is also thought he may have arrived from Germany. Perhaps he could have been a stowaway or ships crew member and jumped ship here. His first marriage was in Chicago, 12 Oct 1876 at 19 years of age. If you can assist me in finding where in Holland he came from it would be greatly appreciated. Hey it looks as if we are related through marriage. Thanks, howard

My grandmother Swantje (Frances Greenfield Brown) was your grandfather Henry's sister. (Menno could not have been born in 1888 and have had a child in 1892, unless he was really an ubermensch!) E-mail me directly at mennogroeneveld@aol.com, and I'll send you what I have in my files. Have you been to the cemetery in Alexander? Every one there is related to us. Did you know Menno's wife died after having 10 children, and her mother, Anna Schulte, raised the children. The youngest sibling, Maybelle died only three years ago. Did you attend the Greenfield reunion in 1992? My mother, June Brown King (later, Adams) and my sister, Roberta King Bell did. June died the following year, and one day I will bring her ashes to Alexander. Frances died on Christmas Day 1965, in Des Moines. More soon. Max

Cousin Kathryn (or should I say liebe Vetter Kathryn), as you can tell, I haven't checked the Groeneveld Board in a while. I had given up. Menno's daughter, Swantje, who was the second of 10 actually, was my mother's mother. I may be doing the math wrong, but my Menno was my great-grandfather and your grandfather was my mother's Uncle Henry, whom I remember from visits to Iowa as a child. Be in touch soon. My great-grandfather, Menno Groeneveld came to Iowa from Leer in Ostfriesland about 1900.His second child, Frances (nee Swantje) was my mother's mother. She married Harry Lewis Brown and their only child was my mother who was born in 1921. I have relatives still in Leer, among them Dr.Dr. Wolfgang Schoss, who is my 3rd cousin. We have a great-great grandmother, whose maiden name was Schulte.

Ik heb zelf ook een website waarop je kunt kijken, maar ik heb geen Groenevelds in Den Helder. Een andere interessante site is www.cbg.nl van het Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie in Den haag. Een bezoek aan dat bureau ter plaatse is ook de moeite waard. Andere mogelijkheden zijn een bezoek aan het rijksarchief van Noord Holland in Haarlem 023-5172700
