Classification: Query
Surnames: Groff, Dodge, Garfield, Sutherland
I'm trying to locate information of Henry Ream Groff - born Nov. 28, 1827 in PA, married to Mary A. Sutherland in 1856 in Ohio. They had daughters and lived in the Cleveland area. Mary A. Groff born March 25, 1875, died Dec. 9, 1945. There was Fannie born about 1860, M. Augusta born about 1871, May S. Groff born about 1857 and Jeannette Groff born Oct. 1, 1858. Henry worked as a salesman of boots / shoes.
Henry died July 4, 1916 in Cleveland. His wife, Mary had died a few years earlier.
Jeannette Groff married Samuel D. Dodge, a lawyer. Their children were: Janet S. Dodge, born 1881, married John Garfield. Henry Groff Dodge, born 1883, married Lila. He was a lawyer. Their son was Douglas P. Dodge, born 1920.
Janet and John Garfield's children were: James, John and Douglas (and some daughters). The remained in the Mentor, Lake Co., Ohio area.
Henry and Mary Groff were buried in the Lakeview Cemetery, as was a daughter, Mary A. Groff (1875-1945).
So this was a major family of Groffs and descendants in Cuyahoga Co., Ohio.
If any of this looks familiar, I would like to hear from you. If it is the correct Henry Groff I'm looking for, his siblings remained in PA and MD and did quite well for themselves.
