I'm looking for any information on a Matthew Grohs
born in Kolbenz Germany, he was married to a Catherine
Sofell also born in Germany. They had sons Antone, John,
Christian, and Henry. The brothers came to America in
the later part of the 1800's. They migrated to Oregan
and California. If anyone has information on these
people, esp. Matthew and Catherine please let me know. Thank

I descend from Bertha Elizabeth Grohs, daughter of William John Grohs and Margaret Schroeder. Trying to find a Norma Oatman who had posted messages in 2006. The email addresses listed for her posts are no longer valid, as I have had 2 messages to her returned this week.

Would like to connect with Norma or someone who can go back to William John Grohs parents.

Georg Peter Grohs and Elizabetha, nee Schaefer, were my G-Grandparents. To my knowledge he was born at Offenbach, Hessen, Germany about 1826. He died in Balmain, Australia in 1902. Elizabetha was also born at Offenbach in about 1830. They came to Australia in the 'Cesar Goddfroy", arriving in 1856. They settled on the Clarence River at Grafton and raised 6 children, Jacob [born 1856], Sophia [born1861], Catherine [born 1862], Augusta [born 1865], Elizabeth [born ?] and George Ludwig [born 1872]. Augusta was my Grandmother. Elizabetha died in Grafton in 1906. They were pioneers in the Clarence Valley.
I believe Elizabetha was the daughter of Petrus and Catharina Schaefer, nee Dahlbender, but I have not been able to trace Georg Peter's family at all. If I am correct in the line of Elizabetha, she had one brother, Petrus [born abt. 1824] and sisters, Eva [born 1827], Anna Maria [born 1835] Christina [born 1838] and Catharina [born 1842].
I would appreciate any information or any probable family connection as I have no living relative that can give me information about my German heritage. I don't know if any other members [apart from my G-Grandparents] of either of the families concerned migrated to other countries, or if they still remain in Germany. Whatever the case I would very much like to find out. Can anyone help?

Age 78. Entered into Eternal Life on Saturday, June 24, 2006 to be reunited with his parents, Philip and Roxanne, and sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Robert Hoelzer. Phil had no children, but was a cherished uncle and second dad to Robert (Mary) Hoelzer, Jane (Tom) Ruttinger, Larry Hoelzer, Kathleen (James) Raml, and Barbara (Michael) Brunner. Also survived by 12 great-nephews and nieces, and 9 great-great-nephews and nieces. Phil was a retiree of the Milwaukee County Transit System. He will be missed by his hunting buddies and the many people whose life's he touched in so many ways. Hoelzer, Elsie S. Sunday, December 15, 2002 Hoelzer, Elsie S. (nee Grohs) Age 82, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee. On December 14, 2002, she went to join her husband, Robert, who has been patiently waiting for her for 31 years. She was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by her brother and best friend; Philip Grohs, her children; Robert (Mary) Hoelzer, Jane (Tom) Ruttinger, Larry Hoelzer, Kathleen (James) Rami, and Barbara (Michael) Brunner.
She is further survived by twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was the glue that held her family together and the rock that made them strong. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 16, 2002 at 7:00p.m. at The Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend. Burial, Tues. Dec. 17th at 2:00p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery of Milwaukee. Harry L. Grohs, 79, of 100 West Butler street, Shickshinny, died at 7:15 a.m., Tuesday at Berwick hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday. He had been hospitalized frequently during a 16 year illness.
Born in Shickshinny on May 13, 1897, he was the son of the late Frank and Susan Kester Grohs. He spent his entire life in Shickshinny and attended Shickshinny schools. He was employed at the Glen Alden Coal Co., Wanami and retired in 1960.
He and his wife, the former Blanche Sager, of Sheatown, marked their 42nd wedding anniversary on last December 11. In addition to his wife he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday morning at 10 from the Zofcin Funeral Home, Shickshinny, with Rev. Warren Birdsall, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, Shickshinny, officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill cemetery, Shickshinny.

Though my main research interest is in the ISEKE family, I have a little information about a GROHS family (oral history, not yet documented or verified) from South Dakota. Does anyone recognize these people, and have more information about this family?) The siblings of Mary ISEKE came with their father to Alberta, Canada in the 1890s. We are only beginning to research this line now, and would appreciate whatever info is out there about them.

Frederick GROHS married Mary ISEKE and the family lived in the Zell-Redfield-Parkston areas of South Dakota. Their children were 1. Mary (married Wm. Pietz on July 6, 1919)
2. Frederick (married Rose on Nov. 25, 1919, died June 1991?),
3. John (married Bertha Aug. 31, 1925 - Bertha died Nov. 23, 1993)

5. Elizabeth (married John Degan-sp?)
6. William (died May 17, 1989)

7. Wilhelmina (married Henry/Hank unknown?)

New info! Looking for anyone related/with info on Friedrich Wilhelm Grohs and wife Henriette Kiel from GOHSE near Cologne/Germany (also brother Karl Grohs). My ggrandfather August Grohs (b. 9/5/1860) was their son and immigrated to Brazil where he became an important engineer in the city of Curitiba (they give his name to a small park over there). I want to find relatives in Germany and anyone in the US who could be related to the couple. It seems they had other sons that could have immigrated to the US.
Any info on August would be also great!

My grandfather was Louis Grohs (b: 9/23/1893, d: 6/23/1966)

His father was Louis Dietrich Grohs(b: 10/1866, d: 1947), married to Bertha Augusta Kahl.

Louis's father was John Nicholas Christian Grohs, married to Margaret ?.

Looking for any information from John and before, and any information with regards to his kids.

Per Perssons Holm's family, to Brazil in 1891

I am seeking information about, and the descendants to, Per Persson Holm and his family. Per and his wife Lovisa Nilsdotter were both born in 1856, Sweden. They had at least four children, Emma Petronella Holm (1879), Maria Karolina Holm (1881), Petrus Emanuel (1888) and Ludvig Heliodrus Holm (1890).

The family left Sweden for Brazil in June 1891, and there all my leads ends.

His DOD is Oct 7, 1906, in Rochester, Peoria County, IL. Their daughter, Bertha Elizabeth, DOB Feb 27, 1865, Chicago, IL is my ggrandmother. She married John Harness Lorance Dec 26, 1883. My maternal gggrandfather, William J(ohn) was born June 19, 1834, in Germany, probably Leipzig, Prussia. He married Margaretha (Margaret) E. Schroeder March 7, 1858, in Chigago, IL. Margaret was born in Luneburge, Hanover, Germany on March 30, 1838. William died Oct 7, 1906, in Elmore (Rochester), Peoria County, Millbrook Township, IL.

Their daughter, Bertha ElizabethGrohs , DOB Feb 27, 1865, Chicago, IL is my ggrandmother. The family is on the 1880 IL Federal census for Millbrook township. Bertha married John Harness Lorance (Lawrence) Dec 26, 1883. They migrated to Dundy Co., NE.

Looking for descendants of John GROHS, b. 1872, son of Joseph and Mary Frances QUIGLEY GROHS of Babylon, NY. He married Annie AUSTIN and had several children. Of their children Mabel married Bill BLUM, and had two sons: Harold and Bill.
Raymond married and had a son George. Raymond's wife later remarried ? JONES and changed the son's name to JONES. Son John married and eventually moved to VT. Mary married ? ALLEN and lived in Melville, NY. Anyone out there?
